Family News July 7, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerIt was a wonderful privilege to be able to preach at the church in Wenatchee, Washington last week. They send you their greetings in the Lord. Jim & Connie Aker are members there. Connie as always is very active in serving the Lord constantly ministering to others. Jim serves as one of the elders for the church there. It was a pleasure to be able to preach there, but it is not the same as being in Coeur d'Alene. One of the more active ministries here at Dalton Gardens is the Prayer Ministry. Of course, the Lord expects all of us to pray regardless of an established ministry. The Prayer Ministry, however, helps us to be aware of needs and provides ways for us to pray with and for others. One such activity is the Prayer Trios. Each member of the Dalton church has been asked to pray for 2 others in their trio. The entire congregation has been assigned to a trio. Many have said what a blessing it has been to them. Scott & Karmen Rouse and Nancy Callis have been in charge of this segment of the Prayer Ministry. We are now going to change the makeup of the trios. You should have received a notice in your church mail box as to who you are now being asked to pray for. If you did not get one, be sure to see one of them and they will be happy to assist you. Another aspect of the Prayer Ministry is the Prayer Garden. As most of you have probably noticed, progress is being made. A great deal of dirt has been brought in and it is starting to take shape. A special thank you to Rick Blanchard, Don Rude, and Eldon Rude for the work they have done thus far. This has the potential to be tremendous tool in reaching out to the community and providing a great service to others. Another important aspect of the Prayer ministry is the Prayer Breakfast which takes place at JB's restaurant on Tuesday mornings at 6:30 a.m. We have had excellent turnouts for these. It is a great way to start off your day as we pray for the church both as a whole and for individual members, for the community, for those who are suffering from various ailments, and for our missionaries. It just makes your whole day, even week go better. If you haven't been a part of this and your schedule allows it, feel free to come and be a part of this tremendous blessing. Have a Great Week!! Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. - 1 Timothy 6:12

All are invited. There is no admission fee. Shepherd's Corner Last Sunday at the close of our service I submitted to you a few thoughts about not letting opportunities pass by without taking advantage of them. Let's explore this concept a bit more. Each day as we go to work, school or wherever, we come in contact with other people. Sometimes those encounters can turn into an opportunity to talk about Jesus. Some of you are thinking 'that doesn't happen to me.' I think it happens much more often than we realize, we are just not paying attention. We should, as Christians, rely on God for everything in our lives. Should he not in turn be able to rely on us for the simple task of sharing the joy and good news of Jesus with those people that he sends into our lives? That's right, do you think those encounters and opportunities to witness just happen? I suppose some do but just maybe that person in front of you in the line at the grocery store yesterday had been praying for God to send someone into his or her life to show them the way. Folks, remember who we are and the treasure we carry in our heart. It is far too valuable to stay inside. Think about it won't you? - Scott Rouse for the Elders Game Night Do you like to play board games, card games, dominos, etc.? Please bring snacks and drinks. Please bring any games you like to play. I would like to thank everyone for being so caring and
open to each other's needs!! This is a very special thing. Mike's Memos Exhausted and Energized ....and yes, at the same time!!! That probably best describes how I feel after two weeks at Music / Bible Camp. We had a fantastic time praising and worshipping God, playing games and enjoying fellowship with one another, competing in ping pong, basketball, box hockey, softball, horseshoes and volley ball, and swimming / canoeing / paddle boating in the cold water of Lake Thomas. The time spent in Bible classes, music classes and just enjoying singing songs of praise drew us closer to God and to one another. Spiritual growth and connectedness were at an all-time high. There were Christian teens and staff involved from the Oregon and Washington coasts, all across Washington and Northern Idaho and from Western Montana. The present and future of the Lord's Church in the Northwest is in good hands. Yes, everyone went home physically exhausted, but so energized by the awesome Spirit of God that we truly felt like we could 'soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint.'. CCS CORNER - School News The Spirit of America Did you happen to hear 'I'm Proud to be an American?' this week? All across America families and friends gathered together for parades, picnics, and fireworks on Thursday. Flags could be seen on houses throughout the city as well as scattered across many floats in the parade. Fireworks illuminated the night skies all over America as families gathered to observe these spectacular displays of patriotism. But, did they know what it all meant? One might ask any elementary child, 'What is all this celebration about, anyway?' A typical answer would be: 'It is a HOLIDAY!...the 4th of July....a time to celebrate!' But, to celebrate what? Many, not just elementary level, need to be reminded that we are celebrating our FREEDOM. A Freedom to appreciate our flag, our country and our rights as American citizens. A Freedom in 1776 from the 'thorn', we might say, of England in our lives. It is sometimes difficult to understand the extent of our freedoms and our blessings until we leave the 'protection' of this country. We are often hidden from the realities of the world. This can encourage apathy instead of empathy. Jesus KNEW the world! He was NOT from the World, but knew ALL about it. Just as America became free from England, we can become FREE from the apathetic and evil world by following His footsteps. We can become a guidepost for the lonely, the lost, and the disheartened of the world. Jesus came as an example to serve...not to be served. His pathway is our guide as we lead our students throughout the year. We are preparing and planning, even now, for a new year! Can you help support a student? Do you have some time that is free to help a child in our school? We thank you all that care by giving and your service to CCS! -Dan Dupey American Cancer Society's Relay for Life - July 19th-20th We are putting a team together for this year's relay. If you are interested but do not want to walk in the event - please be a part of our team by being a prayer warrior for us.
