Family News May 26, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerWe would like to say, 'Thank you' for your support of the men that were selected by the congregation to serve as our new shepherds and deacons. We had a very good attendance and ice cream was enjoyed by all. A special 'Thank You' to the Wuest family for making the ice cream. The deacons will be meeting this Saturday morning to work out the various assignments so that the church can function effectively. Many people are accustomed to coming out on Sunday mornings. Less people come out to attend events at other times. It seems that over the years our time has become more coveted and we are less willing to give it up. May I remind each of us that the work of the Lord's church is the most important work on earth. God has placed a trust within our hands that we may represent him and proclaim the good news of Jesus. A relationship with God is more important than all the treasures of earth. If you are currently actively involved in the church, may I encourage you to excel still more. If you are not active in the work of the Lord, I would like to ask you to reevaluate what you do and why you do it. The scriptures also tell us that 'We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,'- Acts 14:22. The church is a mutual encouragement society. Only by working together as a will we be able to combat all the flaming missiles of the evil one. Let's make our attendance at all of the church assemblies a priority. Let's lift each other up through encouragement, and let's work together to please the Lord. There are several things that are just around the corner to be sure you have on your calendar. Next week is our annual day of prayer and fasting. Summer camps at Camp Prince's Pine start in June. Earl Williams will be conducting a special meeting for us in July. Keep all of these events in your prayers. Have a Great Week!! For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. - II Corinthians 5:14
Manna International For the last 18 years the church in Redwood City, California has overseen Manna International, a wonderful project that has benefited many countries throughout the world. They have dug hundreds of water wells, provided food, clothing, and shelter as well as working to empower and educate our youth to actively address the needs of the world and to understand God's desire for us to make a difference. Their love has provided life-sustaining aid and development opportunities to God's children in the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Nigeria, Haiti, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Botswana, Somali, Croatia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Rwanda, Mexico, and El Salvador, They have also been able to help thousands of Americans who have been stricken by natural disasters and provided relief to those in the U.S. who have suffered such as the terrorist attacks in New York City. They also take the lead in distributing boxes for the Magi Project which the Dalton church has been involved. To fund these efforts, the Redwood City church has asked churches of Christ throughout the world to participate in a Day of Prayer and Fasting on June 2, 2002. They are asking that you skip one meal and donate those funds to Manna International. This annual day funds most of their efforts throughout the world. This is a relatively painless way of helping them and allows us to spend some time in prayer for the needy throughout the world. Of course, you are welcome to give more than the funds for one meal. We would like to encourage you to plan for this next week. We will take up a special collection next Sunday, June 2, for this project and encourage you to be generous. Elders & Deacons MeetingThere will be a elders and deacons planning meeting this Saturday, June 1, at 9 a.m. at the church building. All elders and deacons are encouraged to be here for this important meeting. Congregational Meeting & BBQ There will be a congregational meeting and barbecue on Sunday June 9, at 3 pm. Make your plans to be present as vital church family information is discussed and fellowship is enjoyed. Shepherd's Corner Manna International is asking all churches of Christ to participate in the 19th Annual Day of Prayer & Fasting on June 2. This congregation took part last year and the Elders are again encouraging members to participate. We are asking members of this congregation to: (1) Join with churches of Christ around the world in a special day of Prayer for the poor and suffering. (2) Skip one meal during that day. (3) Donate the money saved in a special contribution next Sunday, June 2. Please add this worthy effort to your prayers. - The EldersYour Help Is Needed! Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 15th for a cleaning day in the basement. Our goal is to have the classrooms ready for Vacation Bible School! New Quarter Bible Classes Begin Next Sunday, June 2nd Please consider the importance of Bible class study for you and your children. I know it takes extra effort, but it also sets a higher spiritual standard and obviously places you in a setting to learn more of God's word. It also strengthens the family, among other things. Surely these benefits are worth the effort required. If you haven't been consistently attending Bible class, next Sunday, with the beginning of a new quarter, is an excellent time to begin. We pray that you will. Take some time to relax...to rest. Take some time to just be a kid. On the other hand, don't be a 'lazy slob' either. Be thoughtful, helpful, courteous, even industrious. Also, please don't forget to include activities for spiritual growth...... as in regular Bible class and worship, youth activities, and especially a week or two at camp. Job 10:8,12 This year marks the seventh year of my service here at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. I have been rewarded richly through the lives of the children, parents, teachers and many other special people. They inspire, encourage, and teach us so much. I praise God for this opportunity.
