Family News May 19, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerDon't forget to be here this afternoon at 4 p.m. for 3 great activities. We will be formally charging our new shepherds and deacons with their new responsibilities. The men you have selected to serve as shepherds for the next two years are: David Bruner, Ralph Crump, Larry Grow, LaMont Petersen, Scott Rouse, Don Rude, and Mike Swaim. The men you have selected to serve as deacons are: Mark Borsheim, Warren Brown, Scott Dehlbom, Tim Frahm, Arrty Rude, John Simpson, Steve Taylor, and George Wuest. It is very important for each of us to be here. The church is God's family on earth. He has commissioned the church with the responsibility of carrying the gospel message to all the world. Included in this is bringing the lost to Christ and bringing His children to maturity in Christ. He has also set a pattern calling for elders and deacons to be established in each church. There is no set method for how this is done, although there are principles and qualities that each leader should possess. If you are a Christian and a part of the Dalton Gardens Church, then it is imperative that you be here to give these men your support. Churches rarely, if ever, rise above the quality of their leaders. Only when we join with them and submit to their lead will we ever please God. Always keep our leaders in your prayers. They are not perfect and are always learning. Most do not realize all that they end up dealing with. They deserve and need your respect, cooperation, and prayer. Also, this afternoon, following our time of installation of our shepherds and deacons, Anna Crump, Ivan Archer, and Mike Reeves will give a presentation on the work in Barnaul, Siberia, Russia. This has been an exciting work and shows how your influence is truly being spread through the world. Following that, we will be having home-made pie and ice cream. Homemade ice cream truly is one of the great blessings our God has provided us while we sojourn this earth. Feel free to bring something, but just be there to enjoy each other's company. Our regular Sunday evening Bible Study Groups will not be meeting tonight to encourage maximum participation at the afternoon service. Don't be content to stay at home or do something else. Let's encourage one another daily, as long as it is called 'Today.' Also, the elder's will not be meeting regularly on Sunday afternoons as they have done for the past 2 years. They did this to make themselves more available to the congregation, but found, that for the most part, few were able to take advantage of the time. They still meet every week on Wednesday evenings and make regular visits. Of course, they will still be available for anybody who has a need to meet with any of them. You may simply contact them or have the office schedule a time for you to meet with them. Have a Great Week !! Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. - EPHESIANS 6:7
Welcome to the Family! The angels of God rejoice with us as we welcome Wendy Lansford into the Lord's Family here at Dalton Gardens. Wendy responded Sunday night asking for prayers and forgiveness as she renews her commitment to Christ. She lives at 698 Wilbur, Apt. # 315. Her phone number is 704-1515. She lives alone, and would appreciate your calls, visits, and invitations to 'go along for the ride' to the grocery store, church activities, etc. Let's all help her feel welcome. Togo Report - Besides the 13 baptisms at the village of Njei last week, there were 38 baptized in Legeue-Legeue this week. Eleven of these were teenagers, and the others ranged in ages up to 60. The Togo team including David and Becky Reeves asks for our continued prayers of praise and thanksgiving, as well as intercession for the work with the Kabiye people. This week David and Mark Kennell will start new classes in the larger mountain village of Leo. Shepherd's Corner The Elders want to thank the congregation again for your input during the selection of Elders and Deacons and the evaluation of our ministers. We spent many hours praying and discussing the input so we could know your hearts. We really want to do God's will in our duties to the church. From the input we felt that your wishes are for us to go forward with Dave Shaner and Mike Reeves as our ministers and we have charged them with that responsibility. Please support them, the elders and deacons so that their work for the church can be a joy. A special place Look around, you'll see God's face His face is on the children The eager, little pilgrims With hearts and minds like sponges Some taking baby steps, some lunges The hearts and minds of the teachers Though once they were sponge-like creatures, So, as the students grow and learn, That toward God's grace they easily turn. But God keeps working day by day, And if we hope and trust and pray I have been truly blessed by this special place.
