Today is Mother's Day. Congress enacted Mother's Day in 1913, but motherhood was established by God as a part of His perfect plan for humanity. Motherhood was not an afterthought but a divine intention from before the beginning of time. We are commanded in the Old Testament to honor both our fathers and our mothers in Exodus 20:12 and Paul underscored this in Ephesians 6:2. Thus, in what we do today, we join a tradition that is centuries old as we honor our mothers.

We would like to present to you today your proposal of your selections of elders and deacons for the Dalton Gardens congregation. This was one of the best participation times that we have had over the years. There were many names submitted. Some decided for personal reasons that now was not a good time for them to take on this responsibility.

The men you have selected to serve as shepherds for the next two years are: David Bruner, Ralph Crump, Larry Grow, LaMont Petersen, Scott Rouse, Don Rude, and Mike Swaim. The men you have selected to serve as deacons are George Wuest, Steve Taylor, Tim Frahm, Arrty Rude, Warren Brown, Mark Borsheim, Scott Dehlbom, and John Simpson. If for any reason, anybody has a scriptural objection for why any of these men should not serve, we would like to ask for you to make that known in an appropriate way. First, we would like to ask you to talk to the individual involved. Jesus encourages us in Matthew 5 and Matthew 18 to take the initiative in approaching brethren to resolve differences. Sometimes, the differences are not a matter of sin, but you may feel that this individual would not serve well for other scriptural reasons. It would still be good to talk to the individual involved, but if you do not feel comfortable doing so, you may still do so by writing the elders a letter explaining your objection using the scriptures. This is not a popularity contest, but a process that has been bathed in prayer. Lord willing, the plan to install these men formally will be next Sunday at 4 p.m. The Bible studies will not meet in order to encourage maximum attendance at this special service. Be sure to be here at this time to encourage these men and give them your supporting hand.

Have a Great Week!!

'Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.'

- Exodus 20:12

Happy

Mother's Day!

Special Assembly Service

Next Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. there will be a special service that will involve the installation of your new shepherds and deacons, an AIM Team report on the work in Russia, and a special fellowship time of rejoicing together. Homemade pie and ice cream will be served at the fellowship time. All good things come from the gracious hand of our God, but is there anything better that He gave us than ice cream? I think not. Bring your favorite pie, your favorite ice cream topping, or just bring an appetite, but let's enjoy each other's company. It will start at 4 p.m. and will last until about 6 p.m. The Sunday Bible Study Groups will be meeting at this time instead of their normal times.

Togo Report

The Togo team including David and Becky Reeves had their first baptisms since their work began. Praise God that 13 precious souls went to the water and were added to the family of God last week. 20 more souls are expected to be added this week. Check the bulletin board for some pictures of these baptisms. Be sure to keep these new brothers and sisters in your prayers.

Shepherd's Corner

What a great day when we can honor our mothers and wives. Timothy's mother and grandmother were instrumental in his Christian up bringing. Our mother's and grandmother's today also are very important in the early development of our children. Let us honor them by loving them as Christ loves the church. Happy Mother's Day!

Also, if anyone has any books, games, or toys to donate that a sweet little five year old girl would enjoyed playing with, it would all be very appreciated! Commentary on the family......

Perfect families do not exist. From the Garden of Eden until now, the best of families have failed to be what God desired. But in spite of the disappointing history, we believe there is hope for the family for three reasons.

First, God made humans with the capacity to change. Repeatedly the scriptures say, 'repent'. Make a change. Even though Americans have radically devalued marriage and the family since 1960, they have the power to change for the better.

Second, Jesus enables us to be born again and restart life with a clean slate. Neither personal nor family failure is hopeless if we are willing to turn to Christ for forgiveness and renewal.

Third, the church is a spiritual community that places a high value on the home, and cultivates spiritual families. If we will focus our lives around a body of Christians, and take our examples and guidelines from there instead of talk shows, celebrities, non-Christian counselors, etc. we can return to the view of family as God intended. As stated earlier, that is not to suggest that church families are perfect. But it is within the church that our children and grandchildren are likely to see strong families and couples whose marriages have lasted 40 and 50 years or more, in spite of failures and problems, with real purpose for living.

There is still hope, and we must always couch our hope in God's design and guidelines for the family. It was His idea, you know!

CCS CORNER - School News

It is such a privilege to be a part of Coeur d'Alene Christian School. What a joy it is to watch as our youngsters grow and mature, all the while planting the seeds of the gospel in their hearts!

Whether you have friends or family in the school, or not, you too may also be involved in the school. It can be in a donation of your time or talent. Each of you are blessed with a special gift bestowed upon you by God. Each gift can be used in our school, like pieces of a puzzle that fit together to form a beautiful picture. Yet this picture involves precious children who are being molded into future adults. Adults whose childhood lessons will affect those around them.

Another way to become involved in the school is financially through the donation of material possessions or money.

With our school gearing up (yes, I said up) for the end of the academic year, there will be many opportunities to help support our school and it's ministry. Tuesday, the school staff will be holding a Phone-a-thon. So until then please pray about any dollar amount you would love to share. Or if you have more time/talent then resources, please come on over and give us a hand. We'd love to have you.

On May 17th the school will be participating in our annual Jog-a-thon. Any (and all) of our students would love to have you as a sponsor.

June 1st is the CCS Garage Sale. If you are looking for an excuse to clean out your closets or de-junk your garage, the time is near. We are eagerly awaiting donations, and will appreciate your gift.

Plus, as a big bonus, are you ready?..... CCS will be offering Krispy Kreme Donuts. Yes, I said Krispy Kreme Donuts. Those wonderful melt-in-your mouth pastries that are sweeping the country, yet are unavailable in our neck of the woods. Those alone will make it worth the stop to visit our garage sale.

Our school is a blessing to have. Many memories have been made. Lord willing, many more memories will be made. Some of those could be yours.

Recent memories made was our Hero day on Friday. We had many hero's sighted wandering the hall. Some Biblical, some super.

Coming up soon will be Hawaiian days. Now that should be fun!
