Family News April 7, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerVACATION TIME? It feels like Spring has maybe sprung, even in North Idaho, and I love it! It will soon be time for all the outdoor activities which we enjoy so much, and also time for family vacations. Of course, we all know that all those plans and activities must include, even be built around, our commitments to the Lord and his church. There is never a time to retire or vacation from serving and worshipping the Lord.In regards to this, I found the following short article that I thought was worth sharing. Now it came to pass that a certain man, a citizen of no mean city, thought to himself, 'Behold, the time of resting is at hand. The hours of my work have been long and my body is weary in much labor.' Likewise, also, the members of his family declared the need for resting. 'The press of daily housework doth tire me greatly,' said his wife, 'and the children have suffered much testing in the schools.' Being of the same mind one toward another, the family verily determined to leave the place of their abode and journey into a far country where relaxation was wont (accustomed) to be enjoyed. 'Let us make preparations to go,' said the husband. 'It is meet for us to prepare our house for the closing and have our chariot serviced for the journey. When we have done these things and ceased the regular deliveries so that thieves may not easily see that we are gone, we shall surely be ready to depart.' 'Not so,' said the faithful wife. 'We have an itinerary for our journey and tickets for our activities, but there is more yet to do. We must plan where we will worship while we are gone. And we must needs remember the work of the Lord here. Yea, it must surely continue while we are gone so we should not depart until we have made our gifts for the time we are gone.' 'You are verily a good and thoughtful wife,' said the man. 'Pass me the family check book that we might honor our pledge to the Lord and His church.' And so they did. And they had a wonderful vacation. 'Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.' I Peter 5:6

Shepherd's Corner Do you find that your life has become busier, and as a result more stressful? When you try to catch up you just get busier, and soon everything begins to spin out of control. Two weeks ago we began a new Sunday morning Bible class about these stresses, and how they come from the overload of our daily lives. This study is from a series of videos by Dr. Richard Swenson. One of Dr. Swenson's prescriptions for this overload is to develop a margin in time. We do this when we prioritize the things we do; when we realize what matters the most. Jesus teaches us that one thing that matters most is God, and our relationship with Him. When we put him first, and as the focus of our lives we can begin to prioritize. Another thing that matters most is other people, and our relationships with them. We must teach others about God by reaching out to them, helping them, and giving them our time. We need to encourage others in their walk with God. We need to teach and train up our children to love God, to put God first in their lives, and to give God their time. All of these require time. Throughout His life Jesus would make time, and give time to others whether they were children or old, poor or rich, healthy or sick. Is this what Paul was referring to in Ephesians 5:15-17 when we are told to make the most of our time? Are you willing to make and give your time to what matters most? - Dave Bruner Game Night Do you like to play board games, card games, dominos, etc.? Be sure and set aside the second Friday of each month for this. We're planning a big turnout and lots of fun and, of course, how could we possibly get together without FOOD? Please bring snacks and drinks; we'll put them all out and nibble as the hunger pangs strike. Please bring any games you like to play. If you are a family with children, come and bring the little ones. Just be sure to bring an activity for them so they will have fun and supervision while you are having your fun. The first game night will be Friday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the kitchen area. For more information, call Betty Williams, 762-4485. Tweener Time We will meet at the Howard's house for a time of playing games and fellowship at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Please bring ice cream sundae and banana split supplies. LTC 2002 Team Members: Bobbie Reeves, Nathan Frisk, Vanessa Borsheim, Austin Shaner, Shelby Nirk, Ashlin Reeves, Joleen Reeves, Kelsy Nirk, Aaron Neubauer, Chris Dehlbom, Alan Frisk, Adam Borsheim, Hillary Brown, Micaela Dehlbom, Dawn Knife, Katie Neubauer, James Graham, and Kory Graham. The teachers / coaches for these kids were: Mark & Kim Borsheim, Mike & Earlene Reeves, Jeff & Sharon Nirk, Dave & Kathy Shaner, Warren & Lynn Brown, Dave & Linda Bruner, Karley Graham, Sandy Simpson, and Paula Morris. All of these people have been actively involved in this training program since September, and have put in tons of very productive time and effort. We've had a fantastic year in our Leadership Training for Christ program. The numbers were smaller, but the hearts were bigger. The study of the book of Genesis was an awesome Bible Bowl study, and it was so gratifying to see, in Phoenix, that our young people really do know this foundational Bible book. You see, winning the Bible bowl gold and silver awards is fun, and we did that, but the real reward is learning another book of the Bible. That will last a lifetime. The same is true of the other 20 leadership training events included in the LTC program. We saw our young people excel in song leading, speech, bulletin boards, art, Bible reading, radio minute messages, poetry, drama, chorus, signing for the deaf, puppetry, and scrapbook. Once again, not only did they win silver and gold awards for doing so well, but they practiced and developed these skills for use in the Lord's work in years to come. Tonight we will celebrate and congratulate this outstanding group of kids, and hope all of you will want to support, and be a part of the celebration, and see them as they share some of their skills with you. Please plan to be here from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight for.... Dalton Gardens LTC Celebration 2002 CCS CORNER - School News Strength & Courage It takes strength to be certain, Only Two Weeks Away!!!
