Family News March 17, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerOnce again, we have experienced another wonderful MIQVAH youth rally. There were teenagers from all over the Northwest as well as from many of the local churches here in the Coeur d'Alene area. I am sure that Mike Reeves will spend more time in accolades, but I would just like to thank the many teens who spent countless hours here at the building over the last week helping to get all of the material ready for the weekend. Despite the work involved, the time spent paid off and we are already looking forward to another great one next year. Our annual Friend Day is only 2 weeks away. We will likely have more than one of these this year, but March 31 is Easter Sunday. We have chosen to use this day as Friend Day, because this is one of the days that more people are likely to attend any kind of church than any other day. With this is mind, we need to use this to influence our friends to come to church on that day. We will have our LTC group gone to Phoenix that day, but let's see if we can make this a record attendance for us on that day. We will focus on the resurrection of Jesus. With all of the advantages that Christianity offers, none of it has any meaning without the resurrection. Pick out a friend and/or neighbor and be in prayer for them. Ask those that are in your Prayer Trio to be praying for them. And then don't be afraid to ask them to come with you. It will be a great day of devotion to the apostle's teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Why is Easter coming at such an early date? We use the Gregorian calendar. Easter was officially established by the council of Nicea in A.D. 325 using this calendar. Officially, 'it is the first Sunday after the full moon which happens upon, or next after the 21st day of March; and if the full moon happens upon a Sunday, Easter Day is the Sunday after." Of course, we don't have any official date in the New Testament, but this is a day the world recognizes. We, however, need to continue to celebrate the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus every first day of the week. Have a Great Week!! 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' Matthew 16:16

Anna, Mike and Ivan will be our team to Siberia April 9th - 25. Please begin daily prayers for their work and for their safety. Pray for our AIM team. Shepherd's Corner - Dave BrunerAhh, Spring is in the air... Cold mornings, sunny days, warm afternoons, fresh rain, trees budding, birds chirping, grass turning green. You can feel the earth trying to shake off the cold of winter, and start new life. It makes you want to break out in song and to thank God. Have you ever noticed that we sometimes treat our spiritual lives like this? As we put on Christ, we allow the Spirit to bring out this new life. We began to shake off the cold of a worldly life, and to allow God's Son-light to shine brightly in out lives. It makes us to want to break out in songs of praises to God. The problem is that we fail to allow the Spirit to continue to grow in our lives. We 'quench' the spirit. One way we do this is when we allow other things to fill our daily lives, and become more important that doing what God wants, ie: Bible studies, visitations, meeting with one another for service, fellowship, and worship. We allow the coldness of the world to cover the Son-light in our hearts. Then we try to justify our actions. Joe Beam wrote, in Seeing the Unseen, that Satan will work in our lives by getting us to justify our actions. Are we allowing the Spirit to create and grow a Spring time in our spiritual lives? Are we allowing the Son-light to warm us, and melt the cold of this world.? Congratulations! Congratulations to Kurtis Shaner who won second and Adrienne Morse who took third place in state at DECA in Marketing. (Romans 12:12) GROWTH is the goal of the Christian. MATURITY is mandatory. If a child ceased to develop, the parent would be concerned, right? Doctors would be called. Tests would be run. When a child stops growing, something is wrong. When a Christian stops growing, help is needed. IF YOU ARE THE SAME CHRISTIAN YOU WERE A FEW MONTHS AGO BE CAREFUL. You might be wise to get a checkup. Not on your body, but on your heart. Not a physical, but a spiritual. Why don't you check habits? Though there are many bad habits, there are also many good ones. The habit of prayer: 'Base your happiness on your hope in Christ. When trials come endure them.' Do you want to know how to deepen your prayer life? Pray. Don't prepare to Pray. Just Pray. Don't attend a lecture on prayer or engage in discussion about prayer. Just Pray. Posture, tone and place are personal matters. Select the form that works for you. But don't think about it too much. Don't be so concerned about wrapping the gift that you never give it. Better to pray awkwardly than not at all. And if you feel you should only pray when inspired, that's okay. Just see to it that you are inspired every day. - Margie WaddellCome join us Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at JB's Restaurant on Appleway and be encouraged by more uplifting thoughts. CCS CORNER - School News Join us any day for chapel at 8:45 a.m. Through Their Eyes Ah, youth...new skin, wide smiles, clear eyes...the future so bright. If only we could bottle it, sip it now and again, and stay forever twenty-one, forever ten, forever five. I liked being five. But I'd also like to think that time and age are like cousins-they're relative. Who said you have to go by actual miles? If you didn't know how old you were, how old would you be? (me, I'm sticking to five.) I'll even argue that you can bottle youth. What you store it in is all up to you. (I suggest....your heart.) If you can figure out a way to keep energy and gumption and fire alive, you'll always stay young. And where there's youth, there's hope....Where there's hope, there's wonder...Where there's wonder, there's faith...Where there's chance...there's love...Where there's love, there's music....and dancing. One of the many blessings of being part of God's work at C.C.S. is the inspiration and life the children bring to us. They help to keep us focused on what is important. Matthew 18:3.....'Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.'
