STUFF     Dave Shaner

Everyone has had one of those days where nothing seemed to go right. They can be very frustrating. First, you are under a deadline to get a certain job out. But someone calls and needs something changed before it goes to press. They will call you shortly with the changes. You wait...and wait...and wait. You go ahead and finish what you can until you get the information. Finally it comes, but now the copier has broken down. You run to Kinkos to get your brochure printed and they can do it, but not until tomorrow. But the extra manpower you had arranged for is showing up today to help prepare it for a bulk mailing. They are busy tomorrow and now you will have to try to arrange someone else to come and help. Now because of the delays, you realize that you are under a timeline for getting your lessons prepared. And it goes and goes and never stops. Everyone has had one of those days. Some experience this 'stress' everyday. And scenarios like the preceding one are mild compared to what some experience.

Can you, in the midst of stress, let the peace of Christ control you? It's one thing to say it, and another to actually practice it. There are several things that we need to keep in perspective. Not to diminish responsibility to any assigned task, but ask yourself how important it is in the long range of things. Also realize that no matter how good of a job you do or don't do, the world will keep on going with or without you. Most things that we feel the need to accomplish right now are not as urgent as we make them out to be. Jesus told Martha, who seems to be the type of person who carries around a 'things to do today' list, 'Martha, Martha, ... you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. ...' - Luke 10:41-42. He went on to explain the priority of spending time with Him. Be sure that when you feel hassled that you are taking the time to be with the Lord. It is never time wasted, but may be the most valuable part of your day. It will even make you more 'productive.'

Garden of Prayer Meeting

Immediately following today's services, March 10, there will be a meeting of those interested in having positive input in the final plans for the Garden of Prayer. Rick Blanchard will be making additions, revisions, rearrangements, and making final plans for the Garden of Prayer. We urge all those involved in the Prayer Ministry to be present. We will meet in the Small Auditorium, immediately following services today.

ALSO: Rick needs to have access to a 6 ton truck, or small dump truck to haul dirt to the garden area. Please let Rick know if you can help him out.

ALSO NO. 2: Later on we will need a metal engraving machine. Metal plates will need to be engraved with donor's names to be place at or near the items they have donated. We want to give proper recognition to all those making donations of items or moneys to The Garden of Prayer. Please pass information on this need along to Rick Blanchard. See you after services in the Small Auditorium.

Dalton Gardens Enrolls in Stephen Ministry

Dalton Gardens has recently enrolled in the Stephen Series. The Stephen Series system trains and organizes lay people to do caring ministry. Larry Grow, David Bruner, and Ralph Crump will be attending an intensive seven-day Leader's Training Course in Seattle, WA - July 7-13 and will then return to train some of our members to be Stephen Ministers here at Dalton Gardens.

Shepherd's Corner

Over the years we have had many young people who have grown up here, and have glorified God through their service. After graduation they continue to grow, and allow God to continue using them. Jessica Bruner is one who plans to use her summer doing mission work in Santiago, Chile which is a Spanish speaking country. She and three team members will be joining eleven missionaries who began work there in 1999. She will assist in work with the youth, participating in and leading in one on one Bible studies, develop curriculum for classes, develop new contacts, and other duties. To be able to do this she is responsible for raising her support, and has asked this congregation to be her sponsoring church. That means that her support would be sent to this congregation who would then forward it to the appropriate destination. She is needing to raise $2,500.00 by June 1, 2002. If you are interested in helping her with any amount of support, direct your funds to the church office for her. Thank God for another opportunity to serve him, and to glorify him through Jessica's service.

The Difference

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish, I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me and grew heavier with each task;
Why doesn't God help me, I wondered; He answered, "You didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn't show me - He said, "But you didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock;
God gently and lovingly chided, "My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

Be Great In The Little Things

Isn't it nice to hear a compliment when you purchase something from a local store or when you go out to dinner. Or, maybe you help a friend or relative do something, and you receive those kind words 'Thank-you!', or 'I appreciate that!'. I have worked with a lot of people over the years. It seems that the common reply on the work site had been not to say anything or to use negative expressions or gestures. In retrospect, it seems that doing the 'little things' for people was just to simple, assumed, and not really needed. 'Well, they know that I appreciate that', or 'She knows I care about her and her good work'.

Jesus said, 'He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.' Luke 16:10

We, as God's people, need to stand out above and beyond the world. Our light should shine. We are often caught up in this cycle of assumption. It is important to remember that the 'little' things go a LONG way. That simple word of encouragement, a 'thank-you', or a 'how can I help?', can lift a person's day. A few kind words can link a troubled heart to Christ and carry them through the day. Let's help each other remember NOT to underestimate the power of a few kind words and how far encouragement can go. As God's people, we cannot assume. This is the light of Jesus; to serve each other in deeds, but especially in kind words. - By Dan Dupey
