Last week I (along with Ray Rayburn and Don Wills) was able to attend the ACU (Abilene Christian University) annual lectureship program. The theme was 'Recovering Spirituality'. Most of the theme lessons were from the book of Ephesians. Much of the energy in the church over the last century was focused on more doctrinal matters and outward forms such as the organization and structure of the church, the authority of scripture, the role of elders, works of ministry, the role of women, who is my brother?, along with other important 'issues' that deserve attention. Every generation needs to study and seek out God's will in these matters. Just because our forefathers reached conclusions does not mean that each of us needs to learn it all over again. However a paradigm shift has occurred in the world that none of us can escape. Actually much of it is good. It is part of what has been called by sociologists, 'Post-Modernism.' It seems strange to call 'modernism' out of date but it simply suggests that patterns of thinking have changed and we need to be aware of it, and have the wisdom to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by it.

What has changed to signal this shift? Although facts of truth are never to be neglected, people are wanting a deeper experience with God. When Jesus said, 'Now this is eternal life; that they may know you,....(John 17:3a), he was referring not to facts about God, but a relationship with God. People want more intimacy with God and a better feel for what God feels. This not so subtle shift is saying we want to go beyond the facts. Learning to tap into where people are, and leading them to the well, is a part of each Christian's calling. Thus, the theme, 'Recovering Spirituality' was approbate and on target with today's audience. This has also happened here in the Dalton Gardens congregation. Think about what we've been involved in over the past year. The development of the Prayer Ministry has called people closer to God. The popularity of 'The Prayer of Jabez.' Men's and Ladies classes on 'Experiencing God' has challenged us. Randy Harris' meeting last November covered the theme, 'The Church in the New Millennium.' Lifeline of Hope

Last Sunday this congregation was made aware of the Lifeline Ministry that provides aid programs for Russian orphans. Many hearts were touched concerning the plight of these destitute children.

The leadership of this church proposes to help support the children's home at Komsomolsk, Russia.

This orphanage currently has 85 children with no sponsoring church to help. All members of this congregation are invited to consider becoming a sponsor and earmark a free will offering monthly to Lifeline. All moneys donated toward this cause will be forwarded for use at this orphanage in providing for the critical needs of food, clothing and medical attention for these children.

LeeAnn Freshour will be our local coordinator and is available to provide information and assistance.

VBS Meeting - Let's Get Started Early!

Immediately following services next Sunday, March 3, we will have a meeting to start planning this summer's VBS. Anyone interested in helping in any way please plan on attending. For more information see Alyssa Frahm.

Education

The new quarter for our Bible classes begins next week. Take a look at the information on the turnstile in the lobby. If you haven't been attending classes, this is an excellent opportunity to begin this good habit. The two adult classes in the small and large auditoriums will spend two more weeks on their current studies of Luke and before changing to the new material on March 24.

Spring Quarter Ladies Class

On Wednesday nights will begin with two sessions (March 6 & 13) with Anna Crump sharing about her missionary experiences in Africa. Beginning March 20th, the ladies will enjoy a study of God's Covenants. This is scary, but if my count is right, there could be 123 ladies in this class without any visitors! Wouldn't it be awesome if everybody came? There's plenty of room in the small auditorium. Please come to encourage and to be encouraged. See you at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights!

I wish there were more spots you see,
the number is not up to me.

This next part will get lots of hollers,
the cost will be at thirteen dollars.

For that money you get three sessions,
and that's a lot of shooting lessons.

at Laser Quest to shoot at me.

Shari Swaim & Jennie Brown as they continue treatments for cancer.

Phyllis Herboldt, Dale Herboldt's mother was in a car accident last week and is in the hospital at KMC.

Jeff Almond got brake fluid in both of his eyes.

Becky & Ocie Howerton as they recuperate from the flu.

June Earnest, Betty Clemestson's sister-in-law, had a stroke and is in the hospital at KMC.

Justin & Amy Bruner were in Sacramento, CA. last weekend trying out for a youth ministry position. Pray that God will put them in the place that is best for His kingdom. Also, Jessica Bruner has an opportunity to go to Santiago, Chile as an intern this summer. Pray for her as she makes her decision.

Please pray for Alfred Monette's mother. She has been sick for awhile and doctors are doing test to find out what the problem is.

Continue to pray for the Togo Team, their families and their work in the villages.

The date, Feb. 25th, has finally been set for the adoption proceedings for Bobbie & Joleen Anderson.... to become Reeves. Please pray for God's guidance.

Betty Fullop slipped on the ice Thursday and broke her elbow. She had surgery Friday afternoon.

Mike's Memos

Our Mid-Winter Retreat at Camp Prince's Pine was a wonderful experience for all. There were 33 teens and 10 adults who enjoyed the good lessons presented by Scott and Chris Rouse, and all the fun we had in the camp's winter wonderland....the tubing, the snow boarding, and the walks on frozen Lake Thomas. I'm grateful to the kids who chose to participate, and to the parents who helped with the weekend. Thanks Scott & Karmen, John & Sandy, Jeff & Sharon, Chris, Kathy and Teri.

CCS CORNER - School News

Join us any day for chapel at 8:45 a.m.

We are grateful to Tyna Capps, the mother of one of our newer students, for her work on designing and putting together a beautiful stained glass window for the school. The design features a cross which is on a purple background with a gold sunburst topping it off. The message reads, 'Christ is Alive at C.C.S.' It is truly more beautiful than I can describe. When Tyna was presenting the stained glass picture to the school, she expressed her gratitude to the Church here and the school for the work that is being done. How encouraging it is to have a student's parent remind us of the importance of what we do, and that 'Christ is Alive Here!' You can come see the beautiful window in the school office and help decide where would be a safe place for everyone to appreciate it and to let it remind us that 'Christ is Alive' here and everywhere.
