Family News February 3, 2002 Short BySTUFF Dave Shaner Next Sunday will start our 'Desperate for God' seminar with Joe Beam. I have spoken to him recently and he is looking forward to being here very much. You still have the remainder of this week to encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to come and be a part. Start by having them be here for Sunday morning. I am convinced that once they hear him, they will want to come back. The last time that Joe was here there were several that were baptized into Christ. When the gospel is heard, people will respond. It is simply a matter of sowing. Generally, the more that is sown, the more that is reaped. We are not responsible so much for how others respond if the Word is spread. Our responsibility is simply to plant the seed. The apostle Paul stated it like this, 'I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.'- I Corinthians 3:6-9. We need to display the likeness of Christ and do what we can to help others in need. We need to look for opportunities to share God's Word with others. But it is God who opens the hearts of men and women. You can always count on God's Word having an effect on others. Isaiah says, 'As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.' - Isaiah 55:10-11. God's purposes will be achieved. Will you allow him to use yourself as His vessel to achieve it? Keep Joe in your prayers as he travels and be in prayer for the entire seminar that God will be glorified and that people will be saved. People really do need the Lord. A special thank you to all who cared for me in prayer as I recovered from my recent surgery. Just letting me know made me feel special and that I was in good care with God's family. Have a Great Week!! 'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.' Luke 10:41-42

Shepherd's Corner Have you ever really considered just how popular Jesus was during His ministry? There was rarely a time that He wasn't followed by crowds of people. At the time of the Passover many went up from the country to Jerusalem to prepare, and there was a great air of expectation regarding Jesus. John says in John 11: 56, that people were looking for Jesus, and asking each other, 'What do you think? Isn't He coming to the feast at all?' During Jesus' 'Triumphal Entry' into Jerusalem the people came pouring out of the city to meet Him, shouting praises. John 11:9 - 12: 13, says a great crowd that had come for the feast went out to meet Him. Luke records the fact that they met Him clear out by the Mount Of Olives. If even part of the followers from all the areas where Jesus taught came to Jerusalem for the Passover, there must have been a huge crowd greeting Him that day. The excitement and sense of expectation must have been intense! 'Our King is here!' 'Our King is here!' You can almost feel it today as you read the account. We too should feel that same sense of excitement and expectation every day, for we know the kind of King Jesus really is, and we already know what He is going to do when He gets here....take us home to be sons and daughters like Him, in the presence of God!!! Be joyful, brethren! Mike Swaim Game Night Do you like to play board games, card games, dominos, etc.? Be sure and set aside the second Friday of each month for this. We're planning a big turnout and lots of fun and, of course, how could we possibly get together without FOOD? Please bring snacks and drinks; we'll put them all out and nibble as the hunger pangs strike. Please bring any games you like to play. If you are a family with children, come and bring the little ones. Just be sure to bring an activity for them so they will have fun and supervision while you are having your fun. The first game night will be Friday, February 8, at 6:30p.m. in the kitchen area. For more information, call Betty Williams, 762-4485. Thank You! You are, and that's exciting. But you are also a very important part of the church of today. In fact, your place and usefulness in the church of tomorrow largely depends on how actively you grow and develop in your relationship with Jesus and his body today. The following poem by an unknown author contains some challenging thoughts worth considering by teens and adults as well. Members Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed?
Do you attend the meetings, and mingle with the flock? Do you take an active part to help the work along? Do you work on committees, to this there is no trick, So come to meetings often, and help with hand and heart. Think this over, brother; you know what's right from wrong; As members of God's family here at Dalton, each of us, young or old, has an important place to fill. CCS CORNER - School News Join us any day for chapel at 8:45 a.m. Greetings from the kindergarten class. Recently I gave my parents a copy of Arithmetic is ...... -studying one aspect of the order of the real world and indirectly learning more about the God who created the world using mathematics. -learning to see addition and subtraction facts as part of the truth and order that God has built into reality. -knowing that there is a right answer. -learning to go from the concrete to the abstract, from the particular to the general, from content to concept. -learning to see relationships between one truth and another. -learning to apply mathematics skillfully in order to function in daily life. -learning to believe in absolutes (2+2 always equals 4). -seeing how things work together. -working at a set pace. -learning to be thorough, orderly, careful, alert, obedient, persistent, cooperative, and honest. -learning to master a received body of knowledge and apply it as one way to obey the command of Genesis 1:28 to subdue the earth and exercise dominion over it. I read it to my class a couple of times and when we have time, we talk about it. And they realize math is more than 1+1= 2 even to a 5 year old. We are 100 days smarter! We have been in school 100 days this week. -Mrs. UtterC.C.S.
