Family News January 13, 2002 Short By STUFF Dave ShanerDon't forget about our congregational meeting this afternoon. As we communicate better with one another, the better will we be able to work together to glorify our Lord and Savior. Our meeting with Joe Beam is only one month away. He is the president of 'Family Dynamics' which is the company that administrates the very popular His Needs, Her Needs seminar which Larry and Peggy Flanagan teach for us here. He has also expanded this seminar with follow-up seminars including Love, Sex, and Marriage, A New Beginning, Fantastic Families, and Becoming ONE. Each of these have different focuses and are in great demand throughout the country. He has spoken on nearly every major Christian College lectureship as well as having been a motivational speaker at major corporations throughout the nation as well. I have talked with Joe recently and he remembers his last meeting with us very well with great fondness. Many came to the Lord in the last meeting with Joe. We are counting on many more giving their lives to Christ during this meeting. This can only take place if each of us will be personally committed to making it happen ourselves. 50+ years ago (before the age of television), the gospel meeting was one of the major ways in which people came to Christ. Some congregations even had month long meetings because people just kept coming. Over time, these were shortened to two weeks, then to a week, then to a weekend. Why? Simply because people were not coming to these as they had previously. We live in an entertainment world and we have to compete for people's time. These seminars, gospel meeting, or lectures (whatever you wish to call them) can still be effective if we will each be sure to fill the house. Joe is a great teacher, preacher, motivator, encourager, and administrator. You will not be disappointed. Jesus said, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.' - Luke 14:23 Have a Great Week! I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. - 3 John 2
Potluck & Congregational Meeting
There will be a potluck today after services with a congregational meeting to follow at around 1:30 p.m. We will share last year's victories, go over ideas for this new year, and present the new budget. Several new ministries ideas will be presented. There will also be a time for input from the entire body as to directions we would like to go. Make your plans to be present. In lieu of this meeting, the Sunday Bible Study Groups will not be meeting to encourage maximum participation at the congregational meeting. Desserts will be served after the meeting. Desperate for God, Satisfying Your Soul's Deepest Hunger Joe Beam February 10-12 We will be hosting a revival meeting February 10-12. Joe Beam from Augusta, Georgia will be the guest speaker for this series. We have had Joe here in the past and he has done a wonderful job. Joe has just completed a book by the same title as the seminar. He is also the author of Forgiven Forever and Seeing the Unseen. He is the president of Family Dynamics which trains leaders for the acclaimed His Needs, Her Needs seminars. Joe will be speaking on Sunday morning and each evening Sunday through Tuesday. There are brochures and 'tickets' available from the church office for you to help advertise this meeting by distributing them to your friends and business associates. Make your plans to be here and invite your friends. Shepherd's Corner God speaks to us in many different ways. He uses prayer, the Bible, sometimes he uses the church or other people to speak to us, and of course the Holy Spirit. If we are really seeking God's will in our lives we must listen for his call. The key to hearing him is to maintain an intimate relationship with Him through prayer, study, and meditation. It is in those quiet moments when our heart is calm that we can hear his voice. Sometimes He gets our attention in a big way, thunder, lightning or such. Sometimes it's more like a whisper, quiet and gentle. It is up to us to create those quiet moments in which we can communicate with Him and listen for His call. Next week: What to do when He speaks to you. How soon they go, And then I thought of how God's word And as I knelt with God alone Can you look back and understand The trials which my love decreed, Or would you change a single hour Do I seem nearer when you pray And does your zeal for lost men die, What deep and searching questions these, Before His gaze my soul must own Dear Lord, this year may all men see Barbara C. CCS CORNER - School News Join us any day for chapel at 8:45 a.m. I have a poet in my class a fifth grader who just writes poetry for the fun of it. I asked her if she would write a poem to share with all of you in the bulletin this week. This is what she wrote:America, America, land that I love. America, America, let me be free. America, America, you've gone through a lot. Thank you America for all you have done, -Colleen Samsel As I read her poem, I was inspired by the simple love and loyalty expressed in her words. As adults, we have a hard time expressing such pure dedication. Our words are usually conditioned with judgments. Our eyes seem to focus on the imperfections. Lord, let us be like the children who can freely give love and loyalty to you, your church, our families, our community, and our nation. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'
