STUFF Dave Shaner

The New Year's Eve gathering here was wonderful. There were many new faces from the community as well as a good number from the church here. Special thanks to Ken & Bobbie Neubauer, George & Joanna Wuest, and many others who helped to make this such a success. Many of the workers had been working since Labor Day to help make this a success and the work showed.

As we are now officially into 2002, let's continue that same spirit of cooperation and work into the new year. I am reminded of the many obstacles the prophet Nehemiah had when he was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. The workers had been through some difficult times and many were attempting to demoralize them. Nehemiah says, 'So we built the wall and the whole wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.'- Nehemiah 4:6. I realize that everyone has busy schedules along with family commitments and other important obligations, but let's never forget that the work of the church is God's work. We need to always put Him first in all we do.

Next Sunday, we will be having our first congregational meeting of the year. A great many accomplishments were realized last year. Some new ministries were started. Several new Christians were added to the family. Many new ideas will be shared. Ideas are just that, unless we put some hands and feet to the idea. Jesus has given us His dream. He has asked us to help Him realize this greatest of all dreams. We call it the Great Commission. He is asking each of us to be His hands and feet in spreading the gospel. Allow yourself to be a tool in God's hands this year.

Our meeting with Joe Beam will be here in only one month. Make your plans to be at every session. Be praying for someone you know to come to this meeting. You will be uplifted and challenged.

Have a Great Week!

Potluck & Congregational Meeting Time Change!

There will be a potluck on January 13 after services with a congregational meeting to follow at around 1:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to share last year's victories, go over ideas for this new year, and present the new budget. One new ministry that is being considered is the 'Stephen Ministry' which is a ministry that seeks to equip Caring and Sharing attitudes and techniques to non-professional counselors. There is also a new involvement ministry that encompasses our 3 ministries, Win, Mature, and Knit. There will also be a time for input from the entire body as to directions we would like to go. Make your plans to be present. In lieu of this meeting, the Sunday Bible Study Groups will not be meeting to encourage maximum participation at the congregational meeting. Desserts will be served after the meeting.

Meet the Nelson Family

The Nelson Family has been a part of the Dalton Family since the spring of 1993. John Nelson is a true Idaho native. He was born in Weiser, Idaho,

and has lived in Idaho all his life except for a brief stint as a Nevada cowboy when he was nineteen years old. He now makes powder horns for October Country Muzzle loading Supply. His powder horns have appeared in different issues of Blackpowder Annual magazine. He enjoys hiking, hunting, and reading.

Marci Nelson has lived in a number of communities in the states of Oregon and Idaho. Her six years here in Hayden have been the longest she has lived in one place. After graduating from high school, she attended Columbia Christian College for a year and a half. Then she went back home to Weiser, Idaho, to marry her high school sweetheart. The couple lived in Boise while Marci went to Boise State University to complete her teaching certification. She now teaches fourth and fifth grades at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. Her hobbies include: scrapbooking/stamping, reading, hiking, and sewing.

Ian Nelson was born in Boise, Idaho, eleven and a half years ago. He is in the sixth grade at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. He is the student body secretary, and he enjoys soccer and drawing.

Joshua Nelson is ten years old. He was born in Boise, Idaho. He is now in the fourth grade at Coeur d'Alene Christian School. He likes reading and playing soccer.

Game Night

Do you like to play board games, card games, dominos, etc? Be sure and set aside the second Friday of each month for this. We're planning a big turnout and lots of fun and, of course, how could we possibly get together without FOOD? Please bring snacks and drinks; we'll put them all out and nibble as the hunger pangs strike. Please bring any games you like to play. If you are a family with children, come and bring the little ones. Just be sure to bring an activity for them so they will have fun and supervision while you are having your fun. The first game night will be Friday, January 11 at 6:30p.m. in the kitchen area. For more information, call Betty Williams, 762-4485.

Mike's Memos

A New Year's Wish.......

......that we will turn to God and rely on Him to work out His will in our lives. His plan may be a surprise, or a mystery, or maybe even a disappointment, but you need to let Him have His way with your life, for nothing is worse than resisting the One who is at work in you.

The amazing thing is that even in the midst of surprise, mystery and disappointment, you will discover how very reliable and trustworthy God is, and how secure you are in His hands. We sorely need that security in these times of relativism and vacillation, filled with empty talk and hidden behind a lot of semantic footwork. In the midst of 'spin city', it is the Lord who talks straight. It is the Lord who has preserved Truth in black and white in His word. And it is the Lord who has the right to do as He wishes around us, to us and in us. Remember, He's the Potter. There is no need for us to know all the reasons, and He certainly doesn't need to explain Himself. If we're going to let God be God, then we're forced to say He has the right to take us through whatever process He chooses. The journey may be puzzling or even painful, but through it all He is there. He knows the way! Have a blessed New Year.

Shepherd's Corner

I am not one who believes much in making new year's resolutions. There is one area of my life however that I would like to make an extra effort in this year. I want to do a better job of following God's lead in my life. How many times does he place before us an opportunity in which he is saying 'this is the way I want you to go,' and we decide to go a different direction? It's as though we think we know what we need better than he does. If we have any hope of being a fruitful Christian we must follow God's lead or call in our lives, otherwise we are just 'play church'. But you may ask 'how do I know where God wants me to turn?' In order to know this we must listen when he speaks to us. Next week - 'How to Hear Him'
