Stuff Dave Shaner

We are now officially into the holiday season. How many of you dared the traffic and the crowds to start their Christmas shopping last Friday? Maybe a better question is, 'Have you paid off last year's Christmas?' This really is a wonderful time of year. But then again, anytime is right to praise the Lord. Thankfulness needs to be an earmark of the Christian life. Do you have that all important attitude of gratitude?

So often, we like to talk about our problems. Even when we pray, we all too often pour our concerns out to the Lord. The Lord loves to listen to us in any way, but the blessings we have received at His hand far outweigh our problems. It is important that we keep our struggles in this life in perspective. The apostle Paul said, 'I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.'- Romans 8:29 Again, he said, 'For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.' - II Corinthians 4:17.

If you try, you can always the the problems. But, you can also choose to see God's blessing. They are right in front of us, but we allow the distractions to take front and center stage. Choose to see God in all that you do. Choose to be thankful. Choose joy over grouchiness. It is important to be thankful, but it is equally important to give thanks. Express your gratitude to the Lord. When you decide to experience the joy that God has intended for you a sparkle in your eye and a skip in your step will replace that frown.

Also, be sure to let other's know how thankful you are for them. Very few things will encourage a brother or sister more than to hear your sincere expressions of appreciation that you have for them. You can do this by calling them, dropping a note in their church mail box, sending an e-mail, or by praising them to someone else. You can be sure that whatever you do will make its way back to the source. Make certain that what come back is something that builds one another up in the Lord.

Have a Great Week!!

"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." - Luke 16:13

Elders available for shepherding:

Randy Harris Audio & Video Tapes

The messages presented by Randy Harris were some of the best you may ever hear. Some of us will want to listen to them again, and if you missed them you really must get the tapes. Shepherd's Corner

John 14:6

Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'.

The one thing Christianity has that all other World Religions do not have is Jesus. Scriptures clearly teach that Jesus is the only way to the Father. Praise God for His simplistic plan of salvation that is available for all mankind. Church, God is counting on us to share that 'good news' with people around us.

Mike's Memos

Some years back Bob DeMoss Jr. wrote an article entitled , 'The Rise And Fall of Hollywood's Standards' which stated,

On July 1, 1939 a code of ethics for regulating the movie industry was approved, and included the following:

*The institution of marriage and the home shall be upheld.

*Methods of crime shall not be explicitly presented

*Illegal drug traffic shall never be presented

*Pictures shall not infer that low forms of sexual relationships are accepted or common

*Excessive and lustful kissing, lustful embracing, suggestive postures and gestures, are not to be shown

*Sex perversion or any inference of it is to be forbidden

*Pointed profanity, profane or vulgar expressions, however used, are to be forbidden

*Indecent or undue exposure is forbidden

*Ministers should not be used as comic characters or as villains.

Under intense industry pressure, changes in social norms, and new rulings on obscenity by courts, the code experienced a sweeping revision in 1966. Now, movies and television shows routinely violate the majority of these guidelines. Prime-time fare seems centered on dysfunction, exotic lifestyles, and an anything goes morality with an in-your-face tastelessness that coarsens social life and robs it of its beauty, civility and elegance.

DeMoss concluded his article by stating, 'It is a good idea to post Psalm 101:3 above the TV Set: 'I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.''

Parents.... I challenge you to post this scripture on your TV, and be a role model, encouraging your kids to live by it.

Revision....

Lock-ins Dec. 7th - 8th!

There will be a girls' lock-in at the Reeves' home for all the youth group girls, and a boys lock-in for all the youth group guys at the Frisk's home. Very special plans are in the making. Teens, you need to make your plans to attend.

CCS CORNER - School News

Join us any day for chapel at 8:45 a.m.

'Give Thanks'

During this past week, our school enjoyed a thanksgiving feast. Many parents were generous with their time and worked very hard to give us a special lunch. Thank you parents, and especially Patti Welter who organized the meal.

Students enjoyed making various arts and crafts, like placemats and turkeys. Some dressed up in costumes for the occasion.

We have so much to be thankful for. We have an abundance of food and clothes, warm homes, we are able to go to school and church, and God blesses us with love and forgiveness.

Some of the children were asked what they were thankful for. Their responses were:

Nichel (3rd): mom and dad, family and my cat

Ian (6th): family, pets, and friends

Kyler (K): vegetables and my fish

Joshua (4th): animals and snow

Alex (4th): my parents, family, me and God

Amelia (K): Thanksgiving, Jesus and pets

Alan (4th): home and family

Sammy (1st): Peaches my horse and my friends

Our memory verse for the week was Psalm 100:4.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

'I hope you had a thankful Thanksgiving!'

Sandy Simpson,

2nd & 3rd grade teacher

CCS Craft Fair

The craft fair is only about a month away! Thank you to those who have already signed up to help out. If you haven't had a chance to take a look at the areas we need help in, the lists are on the kiosk. Someone will be contacting you in a couple of weeks about the areas you've signed up to help in. We are going to have a Kids' Craft Area this year so if there are some teenagers who would like to help in this area, we could use you! On Thursday, December 6th and the afternoon of Saturday, December 8th, we will need to move furniture to prepare spaces for the crafters and then to set up for church. We could use several men to help in this area, the more people we have helping, the less time it takes! Please take a moment to find an area to get involved in! Dan Dupey is organizing the Sugar-N-Spice Cafe again this year, you won't want to miss that! See you there!

Church Ministry Budgets

Budgets for each of the ministries should be turned into Tim Frahm or LaMont Petersen by December 1. There will be a meeting of all elders & deacons on December 15 at 9:00 a.m. to finalize the 2001 budget. We hope to make this a shorter meeting. You can help by turning your budgets in early. Thanks!
