Family News November 4, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave ShanerAs this article is being written, our fall meeting, The Church in the New Millennium, with Randy Harris has yet to start. I just want to challenge you to be present at every session. Remember that our regular Bible Study Groups will not be meeting this week in order to encourage attendance at the the meeting. See the accompanying article for detailed topics and times. One of the things that I have always enjoyed about living in North Idaho is the changing of the seasons. We are entering a wonderful time of the year. The leaves have changed and are starting to fall. The colors of autumn are yet another testimony of the beauty of God's creation. God set up what I call a Life-Death-Back to Life cycle. As one season is ending, he is preparing for yet another. He refers to this in Genesis 8:22 when He says, 'As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.' Jesus also talks about this cycle in John 12:24 when He says, 'I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.' You are a part of this cycle. We have been born to live, but we must pass through death first. Jesus' own death brought us life. You also must die to yourself in order to be raised through baptism (Romans 6:3-4). Many want to be be baptized without experiencing the death. But without spiritual death, spiritual life can not take place. Death means your pride, selfishness, and ambitions must cease and then through rebirth God's visions and dreams take priority. Physically, you may not appear any different, but your motivations are brand new. God will do the impossible when you surrender all. In the long run, the deepest desires of your heart will be realized when we give God our all. Abraham was asked to give up His only son, Isaac, as a sacrifice, to show his commitment to the Lord. God saved Isaac, but now God knew and just as importantly, Abraham knew within himself how much God meant to him. How much does He mean to you? Start each new day as a new season. Start each new day with God as your focus. Then you will experience real life. Have a Great Week!! In reply Jesus declared, 'I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.' John 3:3

Shepherd's Corner FROM GOD TO MANKIND John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. FROM CHRIST TO HIS CHURCH John 13:34-35 A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. OUR RESPONSE 1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. Mike's Memos LTC Fall Festival & Bible Bowl Quiz Last Sunday evening's LTC activity was an enjoyable time and an excellent learning tool as well. The students demonstrated good knowledge of Genesis 1-14, and there were some very imaginative costumes. I've been trying to figure out how Conner Morris got his Tower of Babel into the car to ride over here. The teachers and helpers who worked all afternoon to set up the learning / game booths are much appreciated, as are those parents and teens who stayed to help with clean-up. We also appreciated the adult Bible class group who participated in our opening game activity. The whole evening went very smoothly. Thanks to all.... Speaking of LTC, Paula Morris, our fund-raising chairman, has found us plane tickets to Phoenix for $147.00! Parents, this would be an excellent opportunity for us to purchase those tickets at a great savings. If you would like to go ahead and pay for your child's airfare, contact Paula, the Borshiems, or the church office.
