Family News October 14, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave ShanerOur upcoming seminar with Randy Harris is only three weeks away. Randy is in much demand all around the country. He will be sharing some great principles about the future of the church and how we can be better prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century. See the accompanying article for details. Make your plans now to be in attendance at every session. The elders and preachers along with their wives met this past weekend for some prayer and planning time. As of this writing, I can not tell you all of the results, but would like to encourage you to always keep the leadership of this church in your prayers. I believe that we have a great set of elders who are truly concerned for your welfare. Nehemiah was a great leader who returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city. Whenever someone decides to work for the Lord, you can be sure that that someone will arise to oppose them. But Nehemiah had what it takes to be an effective leader. When the opposition heard that Nehemiah was working, 'they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.' Like Nehemiah, we have some very dedicated men serving as our shepherds who are seeking the welfare of the church. When you are in love with God's family, it is easy to promote their welfare. Be sure that you keep all of the leaders of the Dalton church in your prayers. Let them know that you are praying for them and that your concern is the welfare of God's family. It is very encouraging whenever someone tells me that they are praying for me. Things started to happen because of Nehemiah. Before long a wall was built. Likewise, things start to happen when leaders care and get together to pray. Before long, a city is taken for Christ. It was great to see Adam Welch baptized into Christ last Tuesday evening. The apostle John indicated that he had no greater joy than to know that his children were walking according to the truth - II John 4. It is also a great joy whenever anyone comes to the truth. A special thank you to Mike Reeves for his teaching and concern for others. Come join us on Tuesday evenings to take the Word out. It will give you great joy as well. Have a Great Week!! 'Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.' Colossians 4:5
Welcome to the Family! Sandra Welch and her children, Adam and Holly wish to be considered a part of the Dalton Gardens congregation. Be sure to welcome them into the family. Their address is: 4227 Abby Rd.
Good News! The angels in heaven rejoiced last Tuesday evening as Adam Welch's sins were washed away in the flood waters of baptism. Adam is a Senior at the Charter School. Be sure to encourage him as begins his new walk with the Lord.
The Future of the Church The Dalton church will be hosting a very special seminar November 4-6 with Randy Harris as our guest preacher. Randy is a professor at Abilene Christian University and is very much in demand all over the country. Be sure to make your plans to be here at each and every session. Randy Harris Sunday, 9:00 am - Spirituality Is Our Future Sunday 10:15 am - Discipleship Is Our Future Sunday 5:30 pm -Why Churches of Christ are Bound to Fail in the 21st Century Monday 7:00 pm - Why Churches of Christ are Bound to Succeed in the 21st Century Tuesday 7:00 pm - Certainties for an Uncertain Future
Elders available for shepherding: This week - Don Rude & Lamont Petersen. Elder's Corner This world continues to create changes in our lives. Some for the good, and some for the bad. An example of some of these changes was the recent terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. Another is the bombing of Afghanistan on October 7, 2001. Much has been written since then. One writer even referred to Ecclesiastes 3 'There is an appointed time everything...', or as a song writer penned years ago 'The times.... they are changing.' Yes, things are changing, God knew that things would continue to change. That is why we are continually reminded to remain faithful and to walk in the light (Eph 5, 1 John 1). This is why God gave us a Spiritual family/Brothers and Sisters/His Church. To encourage and edify each other to remain faithful to God (Rom. 15). The one constant in all these changes is our God. Our God is faithful in his promises (1 Cor. 1). In his unchangeableness He becomes our anchor in these storms of life (Heb. 6). There is a song written from this passage, 'We Have an Anchor, and it starts by asking Will your anchor hold in the storms of life?....' This is answered by looking at your life and relationship with God. This relationship is developed by our reading, studying, meditating on God's Word, and through prayer. How is your anchor? -David Bruner

Mike's Memos The following article came from Paul Swaim's Youth News in the Richland church bulletin. There are some things that people just don't do in America. There are rules that can go unspoken and be fiercely upheld by the common citizen. Violation of just one of these rules can cause great anger and frustration in just about anyone. Here are some examples: Thanks Paul
