Family News September 30, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave ShanerThe Prayer Ministry is up and running. The tragic events over the past two weeks in America's history has been a catalyst for implementing the Prayer Ministry at full throttle. Many more plans are in the works including the construction of a Prayer Room, a Prayer Garden, a Drive-By Requests Box, Prayer Warriors in constant prayer on your behalf, and a Prayer Newsletter. We especially appreciate Ray & Karen Rayburn for their leadership in this ministry. Ray will be leaving for Vienna, Austria this Tuesday where they will be teaching in the university there for approximately 6 weeks. Be sure to keep them in your prayers. There were 30 members and guests that were present at the prayer vigil last Thursday evening on behalf of America and her victims from the recent events. The numbers were smaller than we had hoped, but the prayers were intense and we walked away sensing the presence of God in a greater way. We often pray asking God for help and that is good, but one of the great benefits is how God draws you closer to him in the process. I would like to encourage you to become involved in some aspect of the Prayer Ministry. There is something for everyone to do. Of course, next weekend is the eagerly anticipated Ladies Fall Fellowship. Debbie Lynn, from Portland, Oregon and the lovely Kathy Shaner will be the teachers as well as many other wonderful things planned. Debbie's husband, Dennis, who is the President of Cascade College, will be speaking at our morning assembly. Ladies, if you have not signed up yet, please do so today. It will be a great spiritual experience for all involved. Be sure that you are an active participant in the church. Can you teach, encourage, pray, visit others in need, serve, whatever it is that you can do, there is a place for you. If you would like to be involved, be sure to see any of the deacons or elders or ministers. We would be happy to help you serve and grow in God's kingdom. Don't be just attendees, but join in and let's take the world for Christ! Have a Great Week!! 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving'. Colossians 3:23-24

keys - keys - keys.... It is so hard to keep up with them around here. Many of you have needed, and been given keys to the church building or to classrooms at one time or another. If you don't really need those keys any longer, would you please turn them in at the office. Your helpfulness is always appreciated.
Mike's Memos I am so excited about our prayer ministry. I'm excited to see my church family choosing to be more driven by prayer. We all know, academically, that God, the one and only true God, can do immeasurably more than we can even ask or imagine. But it seems that we don't understand that the trigger for activating his wonderful power is in the asking. We have been blessed with so much, and with such self-sufficiency that we find it hard, or maybe we just forget to rely on the One who can use our small abilities and turn them into incredible blessings....if we but ask. A little story told about a woman known to the world as Mother Teresa of Calcutta inspires me. It seems that in a dream, Mother Teresa told her superiors, 'I have three pennies and a dream from God to build an orphanage.' Her superiors chided, 'You cannot build an orphanage with three pennies. You cannot do anything with three pennies.' I know, she said smiling. But with God and three pennies, I can do anything!' You know, we really haven't believed in prayer until we begin to do things that we cannot do. It is God who can do the impossible. My three pennies worth will not do much. In fact, all of our collective three pennies worths will not do much, unless we give ourselves and our 'pennies' into the hands of God who is capable of doing anything. It is exciting to imagine where this church will go as we become a prayer driven church. I like the little slogan that says, 'If God is your co-pilot, change seats.' TNT We plan to do some 'outside activities' for the next few weeks while the weather is still nice.If any parents would like to host, plan , or chaperone one of these, please let me know. I would be thrilled to get some volunteers. No volunteers yet.......still waiting! New Addresses Rob & Cheryl, Christine, Caitlin Mullaly Steve & Michelle, Zachary Frahm
CCS Corner - School News'The Light Within' Next Thursday K-3rd are visiting the 'Pumpkin Farm' at Greenbluff. Each year we have been blessed to be able to see the harvest, this special part of God's creation. Harvest is also a very familiar theme in God's word. Soon our K-1st grade Bible class will be making a pumpkin lantern, using hands-on and visuals are two of the many ways to make lasting and fun learning. My prayer is that through this simple pumpkin and many other visuals, the children will remember to fill their own hearts with the light of God's love and then share it. Teri Dupey First Grade Teacher Don't forget our Cherrydale Fundraiser! The last day for orders to be taken is Tuesday, October 2. Many of the children from C.C.S. would be more than happy to show you their catalog.
