Stuff Dave Shaner

Our Prayer Ministry's response in putting together a special prayer meeting last week was very special and meaningful both for the church here and the community. Many have wished that they could have received word of it so they could have attended. We are working currently on an alternate plan of communication to help get word out better the next time something deserves immediate attention. I was out of town at the time, but was in prayer with all of you at the time.

The events of this last week have obviously been very traumatic and have caused many to call upon their faith for help. Some are asking questions or making statements like, "Why would God allow this to happen?" or "This is a sign that our nation has left God." Dealing with a tragedy of this magnitude takes on a life of its own and is multi-faceted. Many questions arise that do not have easy answers. It is easy to point blame at our national security or to blame it on our nation's righteousness, or lack of it. What is our role as Christians in responding to a national tragedy such as this? First, we need to understand that bad things do happen to good people. We have never been promised shelter from the harshness that this life can deliver. God does, however, provide us with a faith that can overcome any challenge. The reason tragedy happens is because of the curse of sin in the world. (This would not have happened in the Garden of Eden.) The earth itself is even under a curse brought on it by the presence of sin (Romans 8:22). Even with that said, it is still hard to understand.

How should we as Christians respond? Bathe all the victims and our country in prayer. Realize that out of tragedy, good can come. Don't just sit around the television and wonder what can be done. Get up and do something yourself. Your small gift combined with others' can do much good. God has done something as well. He abhors evil in this world. He is bothered by the separation that has come between mankind and Himself. So he did and does something about it. He demonstrates His love for us by having sent His Son to die on your behalf so you can be saved. We can not erase the events of this past week. But God has arranged for your greatest tragedy to be erased in Christ. Thank you God for loving us.

Have a Great Week!!

"Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!"

Congregational Meeting

Next Sunday, September 23rd, is our fall congregational meeting. This is an opportunity to improve communication within the Dalton Family of God. The Lord's work is so important, and there is so much to do. Let's all plan to attend this session and be better prepared to serve and share in the work.

Is God's Word Worth $30?

SEPT. 30 - $1,000,000 Sunday!

On that day individuals and congregation all across the nation are coming together to provide GOD'S WORD to over 33,000 families in Russia. Eastern European Mission (EEM) plans to send each family a

Family Bible Bundle.

Bundles include an adult Bible, a children's Bible, A Newcomer's Guide to the Bible, Biblical morality lessons, WBS correspondence courses, Things That Matter, How to start a church in your home, a book on baptism and more. EEM can send all this, including delivery for just $30.00!

To help this effort, one may mark a check "For EEM Russian Missions" and place in collection, give to the church office, or mail P.O. Box 90755, Houston, TX 77290. $30 will feed your family for a meal - it will feed a family in Russia for eternity.

1. To involve our ladies in working together to serve the Lord and draw closer to one another.

2. To be an encouraging, uplifting day and growing time for our sisters as Christian women. And,

3. To be a non-threatening time to share Christ with our non-Christian family and friends.

Our speakers will be Debby Lind from Portland, Oregon and our own Kathy Shaner. Make your plans now to attend and share in this time with your sisters.

Thanks to all those willing to provide the food that will be needed for this special day.

Salads, Salads, Salads Needed!

Ladies, your help is needed in preparing a luncheon salad for the Ladies Fall Fellowship. There is a total of 46 salads that are needed. A sign-up sheet and recipe for a salad you select to prepare is with Janet Blanchard at the kiosk, before and after classes. As always, your help is greatly appreciated! Please see Janet Blanchard or Joyce Erwin for details.

Housing Needed!

Ladies, can you supply housing, if needed, for our Ladies Fall Fellowship, October 6? If you can, please let Mary Petersen know. Thanks.

***Attention All Men***

Our Ladies Fall Fellowship is Saturday, October 6 from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. It is an important time for our ladies to share with each other as they encourage, strengthen and help one another grow as Christian sisters. You can do your part as the spiritual leader in your home to make a special time for the women in your life by:

1. Encouraging your wives and daughters to attend.

2. Making it possible with your help at home.

3. Contacting Stan Howerton or the Men's Ministry to help with setting-up, taking-down and cleaning up.

Youth Evangelism Outreach / Leadership Training for Christ

Tonight is the second meeting of YEO and LTC, with 31 kids signed up so far. There is still time for others to become a part of these youth training programs. We will begin work immediately in YEO on an evangelism tool called God Makes A Man , and two LTC events...Bible Reading and Video Bible Drama. We will be sharing what we learn with the congregation in youth-led worship on special Sunday nights...the first one being October 21st.

Bible Bowl Challenge

BBC got off to a great start last Wednesday night with 31 kids and 9 parents beginning the challenging task of learning the book of Genesis. This class is for all 7th - 12th grade students, and also includes 3rd - 6th graders who are in LTC. There is still time for others to join. The first night we covered chapters 1 & 2 with 3 & 4 assigned for this week.

Those participating will have opportunities to challenge others in the class who are studying, as well as students from other congregations. The first Northwest Bible Bowl Challenge will be here at Dalton on Nov. 10th. The second will be at Richland on Feb. 2nd. Several congregations are planning to participate.

RICHLAND MISSIONS WORKSHOP

Earlene and the girls & I will be attending the missions workshop led by Monte Cox at the Richland, WA congregation on September 21 & 22.

CCS Corner - School News

Many parents who have chosen Christian Education know that scripture is our guide. (Proverbs 22:6) Children must be faithfully trained, line upon line, precept upon precept, day after day. Those of us who have chosen to teach in a private school know that it is NOT because of money! It is because of the hug we can give a child who is sad, the prayer we can lean on every day to help us get through.

Parents enjoy the personal attention we can give them as a "small" school and a second family to their children. Character building is an important example of what we teach throughout the day for each student. We strive to train our students in the following areas:

1. Respect
2. Listening attentively
3. Obedience
4. Applying yourselves to the task
5. Always doing your best!
6. Working hard!

Regardless of the situation, we want our children to have these quality characteristics! God is in control, but He needs us to help guide our school children and families. If your character is healthy, love will come naturally. We believe this with all our hearts!

God Bless,

Mrs. Utter - Kindergarten Teacher

Thanks for Coming!

We would like to say thank you to the parents and

grandparents that attended our special tribute to our grandparents last Friday morning. We had a great turnout! Everyone is always welcome to join us during our daily morning chapel time at 8:45 a.m. in the large auditorium.

Ladies Night Out!!!

Hey all you ladies! Do you have one (or maybe more than one) craft project(s) sitting around started, but not finished? The best way to get those projects finished is to just do it! Also, any ladies needing a hand finishing up any last minute projects for the Ladies Fall Fellowship bring your project(s) and we will work together to get it done. So bring your not yet finished projects to the small auditorium on Friday, September 21 from 6:30 p.m. 'till you get tired. Bring your supplies to use and share, plus snacks to keep us going. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions you can talk to Alyssa Frahm, Marci Nelson or Michelle Kish.

Please note changes & an add on the September birthday calendar:

September 17th - Jean Grow
September 19th - Arnie Heibert
September 19th - Clarence May
