Short By

Stuff Dave Shaner

Last weekend's outing at Farragut State Park was very encouraging. The numbers were down a bit on Friday evening, but the numbers seemed to be up on Sunday evening. A special thank you goes out to Ken Neubauer and the Knit Ministry for putting this together and providing some Christian fellowship for us. It's so important for us to spend time together. At times, the early church would meet together daily so they could encourage each other to keep living for Christ. Christian fellowship is more than being together for recreational or social times. In the New Testament, the word, fellowship was used to speak of an agreement that existed between two people that created a special relationship in that context. The apostle John speaks of this in I John 1:3 when he says, "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." He had a special relationship with God, the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Now he wants you to enjoy that same relationship.

Fellowship is both vertical and horizontal. Those who are right with God are automatically made members of His family, putting them in fellowship with other members of the family. Thus, to have fellowship with each other, we must be right with God. On the other hand, John also says, "...anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen." This indicates that learning how to love one another enables us to have fellowship with our Heavenly Father.

Let's always seek greater fellowship with God and each other. We are members of the same family. There is great diversity within the family but remember that we are brothers and sisters and that we need to know each other more than just on a Sunday morning only. Spend some time this week praying for different members of the Lord's church and for us to have a deeper, more abiding fellowship with each other.

Have a Great Week!!

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

- Colossians 3:2-3

2. Making it possible with your help at home.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS!!!

Teens, and parents of teens, opportunities come and opportunities go. We either "seize the day", or we stand on the sidelines and watch life pass us by. Opportunity is knocking today for all our 3rd - 12th grade kids. The orientation / organizational / sign-up meetings for LTC, Leadership Training for Christ, and YEO, Youth Evangelism Outreach, will be this evening from 5:30-7:00. Don't miss these very important meetings. The opportunities for spiritual training and growth in these two programs should not be missed. We hope to see 100% of our kids and parents present to help us get off to a great start.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS AGAIN!!!!!

Our third new program, BBC, Bible Bowl Challenge, will get started this Wednesday night. This class will be for all 7th - 12th grade students, and will also include 3rd - 6th graders who are in LTC. This year's Bible Bowl study will be the book of Genesis. The first night we will cover chapters 1 & 2, so read it ahead of time. This is a wonderful opportunity to do an in depth study of the book that stands at the very foundation of all things spiritual.

Those participating in this class will have opportunities to challenge others who are studying. The first Northwest Bible Bowl Challenge will be here at Dalton on Nov. 10th. The second will be at Richland on Feb. 2nd. Several congregations are planning to participate.

Yes, opportunities are knocking. Don't let them pass you by.

CCS News

School Bells Ring!

Do you see the smiles, the hugs, and hear the cheerful voices? We know where they are coming from! The children are back! Chapel has that familiar feeling of many children praising God. The classes are filled with students studying, writing, and learning memory verses.

Enrollment has increased over last year, but we are still needing students to balance our 2001 - 2002 budget. Spread the word! Help us get the word out about our excellent staff and new K - 4 program and after school care.

It is so good to be working with parents and teachers that show their love for Christian Education. You can help! Contact Shari or one of the teachers and get involved with the school in a Reading program, Chapel, Art, Science, Field Trip, Music, Drama, or teach a mini-class! Pray that we have a successful year and give a teacher a hug!

Ken & Bobbie . . . . you're the greatest!

The Neubauer's put in countless hours to make our Farragut Family Camp-Out a wonderful, relaxing experience. Those who participated enjoyed the fun, the fellowship, the food, the spiritual sharing, and just being in God's beautiful surroundings. Thank you Ken and Bobbie for so willingly sharing yourselves in serving God and us.

Prayer Ministry

Nineteen people attended last Thursday night's prayer meeting and signed up for numerous areas of work as coordinators. They will be calling on you to do your part as we make this church a family of prayer.

Caring & Sharing!

We are in desperate need of people to help prepare meals for members of the church in times of need. We need to give the people who do it every time a break. If you are interested in helping or can at least prepare a main dish, please give Kathy Taylor a call at 765-826.
