Family
August 26, 2001 Short ByStuff Dave ShanerThis is our last weekend of the summer before school starts for most people. Our annual campout at Farragut State Park is this weekend. This is a great time for the entire family. There will be hiking, bicycling, volleyball, horseshoes, card games, singing around the camp fire, snacking from site to site, and just great Christian fellowship. It is important for Christians to spend time together in various activities. Whether it is house to house or in organized groups, we need each other to strengthen our faith. Whether you enjoy camping or would like to just come up and spend the day, be sure to put this weekend with your fellow Christians on your calendar. The Prayer Ministry is up and running. Ray & Karen Rayburn have done a wonderful job of organizing what could well be our most important responsibility - to pray. The ministry has been divided into 16 different categories with each requiring 3 coordinators. Be sure to read the handout in your mailbox to see where you may be able to be of help. What I especially appreciate is the effort to make ourselves available to the community as prayer warriors for anybody asking for prayer. Plans include weekly prayer breakfasts, a special prayer room and garden equipped with a drop box for prayer requests. Now what we need the most can only come from within each of us - fervent, effectual prayer. Despite the fact that I am a preacher, prayer does not always come easy for me. I have to work at it. I have to plan a time each day to talk to my heavenly father or I allow other things to crowd out what should be the most important part of my day. The quick prayers offered up as I go through my day are relatively easy, but the Lord also wants more of me than just that. I believe that this ministry has the power to change our lives to be closer to God than we have ever been before. Prayer by an individual is great, but unified prayer by the church as a whole can shake the earth and put the Holy Spirit to work more on your behalf. (Acts 4:31) Have A Great Week!Bible Study Leaders Meeting: All Bible Study leaders and their wives and anyone who is interested in teaching a home Bible Study are invited to attend a meeting on Sunday, September 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the small auditorium. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."COL 2:6-7

Mike's Memos News Flash!!!! Youth Programs to Begin September 9th --- Two Tracks to Choose From --- --A Third & Fourth Track for Everyone-- Track 1) Leadership Training For Christ..... LTC is a well-known, intensive training program to teach and/or develop leadership in some 22 skills areas for Christian service. The program will begin with an information/sign-up session on Sunday night, September 9th at 6:00pm. The LTC teams will meet each Sunday night, 5:30 - 7:00, from Sept. 16 - April 21, culminating with the LTC Convention in Phoenix, Arizona on Easter weekend. Our elders recognize the value of this youth leadership training program and have pledged their complete support of it's leaders and participants. The potential for spiritual growth in LTC is awesome, but is directly related to the level of commitment and work. Every 3rd - 12th grade child is encouraged to be a part of Leadership Training for Christ. Track 2) Youth Evangelism Outreach YEO will be a new outreach training and practice program for all 7th - 12th grade students who would like an alternative to LTC. The program will teach and practice two or three different outreach tools to develop skills and confidence in reaching the lost. As students learn the skills, they will be expected to make contacts and teach or help teach 1 on 1 Bible studies. They will also be contacting and encouraging Christian kids who are not attending worship, youth group and church activities, and may be extended to include visiting and sharing with the congregation's sick and shut-ins. This new program will also begin with an information/sign-up session on Sunday night, September 9th at 6:00pm, and will progress and grow throughout the fall and winter quarters. YEO will meet each Sunday evening from 5:30 - 7:00 at the building, but will be branching out into the community for visits and Bible studies. Our elders recognize the value and are excited about the potential of this youth leadership training program and are 100% supportive. The possibilities for spiritual growth and Youth Group numerical growth in YEO are tremendous, but once again will be totally dependent upon the participants' levels of commitment and work. We would encourage every teen not in LTC to be in Youth Evangelism Outreach. Track 3) Bible Bowl Competition BBC will be an intensive Bible study class open to all Dalton Gardens youth in small age appropriate groups from 3rd - 12th grade. Bible Bowl teams will be developed as learning progresses. Teams will have opportunities to qualify for competition at Cascade College, Richland church of Christ, perhaps other congregations as well as here at home, and the LTC convention in Phoenix. We will begin this class study of the book of Genesis on Wednesday night, September 12th, and we will meet from 6:30 - 7:30 every Wednesday night. This careful study of the Bible's first book will build stronger foundations for our faith, and clearer understandings of God. In class, team study and competition will be expected of all participants. Travel to other places will be optional. All of our young people are encouraged to participate. Track 4) Thursday Night for Teens TNT will undergo some revisions for the school year, and will become a teen social night. These Thursday night events will be hosted / sponsored by parents of teens. They may include game nights at our homes, nights at local "fun spots"-- bowling, ice skating, roller skating, sledding, paint ball, singing, etc. We need lots of parental involvement. Last week we had 22 teens and 7 adults at TNT at the Grahams'. We hope it will continue to grow.
CCS News Silver Lake Mall is having their annual "Be True To Your School" program till early September. Take any receipts (including food court) from your mall purchases during that time to the mall office. Let them know your points are for Coeur d'Alene Christian School on 4th Street. In past years, God has blessed us with two computers, a vacuum cleaner and a carpet shampooer through this program. Thanks again! We still have a little room in some of the classes, so tell your friends and neighbors. We're looking forward to another great year of growing together in knowledge and love.
Shepherd's Corner Do you get along with every person in your life? Does everyone you interact with bring a smile to your face, or are you like me, sometimes some people just irritate you to death. Maybe that person is a co-worker or possibly a neighbor. You try your hardest not to let them get under your skin but nothing seems to help. A few years ago I was struggling with one such relationship in the work place. It had me all worked up and I begin to wish that this person would cease to be a part of my life. I shared my situation with my good friend and brother Earl Williams. He suggested that instead of praying for God to remove that situation from my life that I should pray, sincerely, that God would not remove that person or trial from my life until I had learned every lesson from it that I could. I gave it a try. You know what! It worked. I began to look at the whole thing in a different light. The situation didn't change but my attitude did. Praying that prayer worked because you know what, Satan does not know what to do with that attitude. He has no recourse. So the next time a similar situation arises in your life try Earl's suggestion it works! Scott Rouse
