August 12, 2001 Short ByStuff Dave Shaner This has been a very special week for me. I have been fortunate to be able to direct the Junior Teen session at Camp Prince's Pine. We had 98 campers mostly from Washington and Idaho. The Christian camping experience provides memories that these teens will be able to cherish for the rest of their lives. I still remember my times when I was able to attend Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp. We had a wonderful week. Part of what made it special was the staff that came from Dalton Gardens. Jo Allen, Bobbie Neubauer, Vicki Laititi, Teri Dupey, Kathy Shaner, Paula Morris, Adrienne Morse, David Rude, and Lakai Laititi all served on the staff and did a great job! One of the new activities that started this year was canoeing and paddle boating. But the most important part was the opportunity to help these young people draw closer to God. We studied the book of Philippians and centered on how to live for Christ (1:21), how to become unselfish (21-8); how to not argue or complain(2:14), how to rejoice in the Lord at all times (4:4), and how to depend on Christ every day (4:13). Camp is a one week experience. It is good and I would encourage you to be involved in one, but many times we seem to operate from event to event. Your Christian life does not consist of the next camp session, the next gospel meeting, the next youth rally, the next Ladies Fellowship, the next lectureship, the next missions workshop, etc. Your Christian life is to be filled with joy and lived out every single day. What you have to deal with at work, at school, with your neighbor, or any other setting is an opportunity for you to display Jesus Christ. Jesus said that you are to let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). This week, try to make yourself be more cognizant of the opportunities that God has placed before you to live for Him. Have a Great Week! "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." Psalm 29:2
Elder, LaMont Petersen will be available every Tuesday in the church office from 8:00-12:00. Available for any need. Two elders will also be available on Sundays from 4:00 to 5:00pm.This week you may see them at the fellowship in the park.
Going and Growing Don't forget fellowship at Finucane Park today. It's a going away party for David Rude and the Crumps will be here too. So come on out to play and enjoy the fellowship. If you forgot to bring your potluck dish, Kentucky fried chicken is always open and at Subway you can get two foot-long sandwiches for seven dollars on Sundays. See you at the park. Ken

Mike's Memos Our first Senior Camp at Princes Pine was a great success with 90 ninth - twelfth grade students plus a staff of 30 caring teachers, counselors, and cooks attending. The class teaching on the subject of Contagious Christianity was very good, and was complimented by worship experiences built around the concept of being just like Jesus. Tremendous spiritual growth was evident, including 4 baptisms and a great many lives rededicated to the Lord. And besides that good stuff, we had lots of great Christian fellowship, fun, and struggles which helped us grow. As I have said before, I don't know of any other opportunity for our kids that produces so much life-changing good as the weeks they spend at Christian Camp. Scholarships needed for Camp Prince's Pine We are in need of three scholarships for kids to go to camp. If you can help with any or all of the $65 fee, please see Mike Reeves, or call the office.TNT THURSDAY NIGHT FOR TEENS SCHEDULE Aug. 16 The Reeves' Home Aug. 23 The Grahams' Home
EDUCATION A new adult series began last Sunday, but it's not too late to get in on the good stuff! Dr Lehman explores Biblical answers to the difficult issues we encounter living as one. Please invite someone to enjoy this class with you. (It will be imperative to begin the video on time, 9am,. Don't be late!)
New Men's and Ladies' Classes will begin Wednesday September 5th
Shepherd's Corner Have you ever been afflicted with this attitude of feeling important? That you do more than anyone else and are therefore more valuable. You want everyone around to notice and applaud your deeds and accomplishments? Meditate on these words from verse two of the song we began last week."I work so hard for Jesus I often boast and say, I've sacrificed a lot of things to walk the narrow way, I gave up fame and fortune, I'm worth a lot to thee, and then I hear him say to me." "I left the throne of glory and counted it but loss. My hands were nailed in anger upon a cruel cross, but now we'll make the journey with your hand safe in mine, so lift your cross and follow close to me." We sometimes feel that we have to give up a lot to spend time serving the Lord. Sometimes we even get upset if we don't get ample recognition for what we do. It is very humbling to remember that Jesus left the grandest possible place to come to earth and die the cruelest death. We can make the journey through life only by taking his hand. We may be good but we can't make it without him. Scott Rouse
