By
Stuff Dave Shaner Our VeggieTown Vacation Bible School last week was wonderful. It is always enjoyable whenever you have
150 children that are thirsty to come together and learn God's Word. I especially appreciate Alyssa Frahm
for serving as the director of the VBS. She did a great job. The
VeggieTown Mayor (David Rude) proved very likable by the children as he
showed them how much fun Bible Study could be.
Also the entire VeggieTown staff worked very well together. We are still reaping benefits from our
JOY Bus program that was discontinued 10 years ago. One of the parents of our VBS children came to the closing
program last Thursday evening. In
my conversation with him, he indicated that he still thought of this as his
church. I asked about it and he
said he wanted his child to come here because
this was the church he came to when he rode the JOY bus! Hopefully, this family will be drawn
closer to the Lord. Examples
like this show that one of our major jobs is simply to scatter and water the
seed of God's Word. You are not responsible for people's response. God is the one who will make it grow (I
Corinthians 3:6-7). You always want
your speech to be seasoned with grace, but even when you have done your best, it
is still up to the other person to make their own decisions in regard to Jesus. With that said, the more seed that is
planted, the greater harvest can be expected. We are all simply servants of the Lord, spreading the word of
the kingdom. He regards us as
co-workers together with Him (II Corinthians 6:1). Let's all do our part, then watch God
work His miracles in people's lives. Be
sure to keep the Senior Campers at
Camp Prince's Pine in your prayers as they are in session for this week. Even though the pre-registration date is
past for Junior Camp (grades 6-8), there are still a few openings left. If you would like for your child to go
to camp, please contact the office. The
deadline for registrations for Pre-teen camp (grades 3-5) is today! If you would like to save $30, bring
your forms to the office today and we will be sure it gets to the director. We appreciate all of the volunteers that
are coming from this congregation that are helping with the camping sessions. Keep all of them in your prayers.
Have a Great Week!!

Mike's Memos Just
Pretending Did you know that
studies have shown? It is almost
impossible to give a dog an ulcer? Do you know why? Because dogs hardly ever try
to be anything but dogs. It is easy for all
of us, young and old alike, to get caught up in the pretense game. Now, it was
fine to "pretend" when we were little kids. But it really doesn't make
a very fun adult game. As
we grow up, the development of a healthy self-esteem, a positive personal ego,
is one of the most difficult tasks to master. In the process, and with our
society's encouragement, we usually spend several miserable years trying on
masks..... pretending to be someone we are not, and getting ulcers in the
meantime. Instead of attempting to be someone else, or looking at standards set by another, let's look at God's standard and within our own hearts, and find the beautiful, unique person God intended us to be. And, at the same time, let's refuse to join the game of expecting others be something they are not. Camp
