Family July 22, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave
Shaner
Our annual Vacation Bible School starts tomorrow. This year's theme uses the wonderful Veggie Tales characters. There will be classes for the younger
folks, but there will also be a class for the adults. Come and help make this a great week by being a part of VBS. See the accompanying schedule for more
details.
VBS is also a wonderful time to be able to meet new people in our
community. Several have already
requested more information about this church.
Your presence here says a lot to our visitors. Always remember the ten minute rule. Seek out our guests during our
gatherings for the first few minutes and welcome them here. You will have plenty of time to
visit with your church family after that.
People often make permanent impressions of this church by the way we
interact with them and each other during those first 5-10 minutes. A lady who has visited us several times
spoke to me recently. She wanted me
to know what a great and loving body of people we have here. Of course, I already knew that, but she
indicated that she thought our friendliness was just because she was a visitor. She has been around various churches
enough to know that visitors are targeted. But what impressed her was the love that she continued to
feel as she observed all of you collectively.
I did let her know that we hoped that she would become more than a
visitor and that this would be able to become her home as well. It made me feel good to hear an "outsiders" opinion
looking in on us. Jesus said,
"By this will all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one
for another." - John 13:34.
Camp Prince's Pine registrations for the Junior session (grades 6-8
completed) are due at the office today. The
dates for this session are August 5-12. We
still need some kitchen help as well as one female and male counselor. If you
are able to help, please see me today. "Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105
Elder, LaMont Petersen will be
available every Tuesday in the church
office from 8:00-12:00. Available
for any need. Two elders will also
be available on Sundays from 4:00 to
July 23 -26th; 9 - 11:55am Classes for 3 year olds - Adults Pre-registration forms are on the kiosk VBS Parents Night!

and come to our next meeting Monday, July 30, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of

In Sympathy Our thoughts are with Minnie Santos and Joyce Erwin and families in the passing of their uncle, Robert Mather. Remember to keep them in your prayers during this time of loss.
Mike's Memos Sometimes magazine articles stimulate a
writer's thinking, as did two articles in the latest Newsweek. I'll share
the other one at a later time but
today..... "WHY WE'LL NEVER LEARN" The political arena seems to be
continually buzzing with one sexual scandal after another. I suppose it's true.
There are some things we'll never learn. The article said, "Adultery is
eternal and biological." While history has shown this to be true, it
should never be acceptable. I guess people in high places, as well as those
in low places, will continue to make the same stupid choices, but it is sad when
the consequences are not corrective. In today's moral relativism, no one seems
to care enough to say, "NO!", "STOP!", How do we get past our fears of
rejection, failure, etc., ...how do we get to the point where we really care
enough to speak up when we see others making bad choices? Most often, we may
feel inadequate, or even hypocritical, remembering some of our own failures. But
doesn't that, in itself, somewhat qualify us by experience to try to keep
someone else from doing the same things? It does with our kids. Why not with
friends or brothers & sisters in the church? The prevailing idea is that
real friends don't judge. That's a sad notion of friendship and support. Far too often we find ourselves talking
about the difficulties in
someone's life, when we should be caring enough to talk to that person
about those difficulties.
It's true I guess, some things we'll
never learn, but I'm convinced that if we will take the time to build strong Christian relationships, and stop being such cowards
in those relationships, we can help one another make some better choices, and
build a much stronger church family. Recommended Book - The
Aladdin Factor by Mark Victor Hansen has been recommended to us for
inspirational reading on the subject of prayer. LeeAnn Freshour brought this
book to our attention in class last Sunday. We can order and pick these up from
Christian Supply at $9.95. Anyone wishing to order a book see Mike Reeves. TNT THURSDAY
NIGHT FOR TEENS July 24 (Tue.) Float
Trip This week's TNT will happen on Tuesday evening. We will meet at the building at 4:00pm and go to Post Falls Dam to begin a 2 1/2 hour float downriver to Corbin Park where we will have a picnic and some devotional time. Bring a friend. And , of course, parents are always welcome. Talk to Georgette Rude or Mike Reeves for more details. Aug. 2 Wuest's
