Going and Growing

Senior Potluck at the Fredrikson's
July, 28th will be the day,
the Senior Saints go out to play,
A true potluck this one will be,
I might have to come and see,
I known for sure you'll have a ball,
I'm just not sure you'll eat it all.
If you need something to do,
be sure a bring a game or two.
To take a swim would be a howl,
just be sure to bring a towel.
The 21st you all can meet,
to decide what and when you'll eat.
Meet in the kitchen when
worship and visiting is through.
The exact time will be left
up to you.

"Well done good and faithful servant.....

Come share your Master's happiness."

-Matthew 25-21

Classes for 3 year olds - Adults

Pre-registration forms are on the kiosk

I'm not sure where the term...Vacation Bible School came from. I'm not even sure what it means. But I do know what it does. VBS is a wonderful effort and a great opportunity for a church to reach out into the community with stories from God's word, and share them with many children outside the church family. This in turn gives us a chance to reach into other homes in our community. Our own kids get to enjoy and learn from these special lessons as well, and to interact and spread their Christian influence.

One week from tomorrow, July 23rd, our VBS will begin at 9:00am. Lots of preparation has been going on for some time now; teachers are preparing lessons, craft work and art work are being done, building decorations are being completed. We are so thankful for willing workers in the Lord's Family here at Dalton.

Everyone is invited to be a part of God's family. This year's VBS Veggie Town theme is designed to teach values, and ways to build and strengthen relationships in our families....at home, at church, and in the world. We will have classes for 3 year olds through 6th grade, and also an adult class. Teenagers will be helpers in various capacities to assist with the younger children. We will not have a nursery class for the children under three.

There will be a special program on Thursday night to share with parents and all of us the lessons learned and the joys shared by all our VBS participants. Everyone is welcome at 7pm.

Prayer Requests

Jenny Brown responded last week asking for our prayers and to thank us for our prayers to help her deal with selfishness in her life. Jenny is a beautiful Christian woman whose example and soft heart is an inspiration to us all.

Kathy Shaner asked for prayers for all of the Senior students in the congregation transitioning to adulthood. May they rely on God's wisdom.

Remember to keep Dave, Linda and Jessica Bruner in your prayers as they travel to visit their family in Wisconsin. Pray for safety as they travel.

The Togo Team for their health, spiritual growth and their boldness to teach. Also, for the Kabiye People, for open hearts and minds.

Please pray for Janice Beauchene, Lynelle Dehlbom's mother. She is having medical tests and may have cancer.

Please pray for Anita Haman and her husband, Gary. May God restore Anita's health.

Continue to pray for God's hand in Shari Swaim's healing. Pray for strength during her treatments. Keep Mike and their family in your prayers.

John Earnest, Betty Clemetson's father, broke his hip and had surgery to repair it. He is in Transitional Care, and would appreciate your prayers and visits.

Robert Mather, Joyce Erwin's uncle, has been diagnosed with advanced stages of leukemia. Remember to keep their family in your prayers.

Janell Daly, John Erwin's sister, is having some problems with dialysis. Also, her husband Rich Daly has a rapid growing cancer.

Claudia Moberg asks us to remember to keep her brother, Ernie Strebeck and her brother-in-law, Larry Moberg in your prayers. They are both suffering with back problems.

Amber Anderson asks us to remember her in our prayers that she will be able to find a good paying job.

Ethel Drapeau, a former member of our congregation, is at Kootenai Hospital suffering from depression.

Teen Pearson asks prayers for all of her family. She knows God knows all of their physical and spiritual problems, and thanks us for all of our love and prayers.

Continue Praying For....

Mike's Memos

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE....

is the eighth principle in our Bible Study series from the book of Philippians. In our discussion of that principle, we talked about the difficulty of choosing a good attitude while allowing our minds to be filled with the "stuff" of the world. There is little question that our environment, and the things which we choose as our mental diet will have a decided effect on our attitudes. As Christians, our desire should be, like Christ, to reflect the image of our Creator. As the moon is positioned to receive and then reflect the sun's light, we must position ourselves to reflect the Son's light. We cannot do this if we hide behind clouds of evil. As Jesus said in Matthew 12:34-35, "How can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him." QUESTION - What are you storing up?

I believe we are far to willing to allow, through television, magazines, books, and newspapers, the evils of our culture to fill our minds with dark clouds which block our reflection of the Son's light, and results in attitudes unbecoming of a Christian. We read materials, and watch the talk shows and TV shows whose sole purpose is to spread the latest gossip about government leaders, and celebrities. Its greatest appeal is to discuss, and dramatize the horrible, sensational problems of sick people and their relationships. If that is our diet, how can we choose good attitudes, and how can we reflect the image of God?

In Philippians 4:8 Paul said, "Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things." This describes the kind of diet we should desire and allow as God's children. You cannot consume garbage and expect to reflect Christ. We must refuse to ingest, in any form, the diluted morality of our society, and instead, drink deeply from the fountain of God...reflecting the beautiful character of his Son, Jesus Christ. Amen?

Shepherd's Corner

The prayer ministry class started, July 1 with Ray Rayburn. It was really great and we would like to encourage all the members to attend the class. If you have been concerned about the health of the church, this is your chance to help it change. Prayer is our way of turning problems over to God and letting him assist in the solution. You will be uplifted by attending and becoming part of the ministry.

Education

Our new 4 week PRAYER MINISTRY class began with Ray Rayburn. It is designed for all adults of the congregation. If anyone missed it, I hope you will plan to be present for the next two class sessions.

This Wednesday night, Dave Shaner will begin a new class called "SHARING JESUS". Every adult member of this church should be present. Are you figuring on how you can be there, or are you figuring on excuses? Let's get serious about sharing Jesus with others.

Home Group Bible Studies

A new Bible Study is now meeting at the home of Tim & Alyssa Frahm. This is a group consisting mostly of couples with younger children. All are welcome to come and be a part of this group. They are currently studying the book of Philippians. It meets on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Their new address is 3511 Pineridge Drive in Coeur d'Alene. You may call 665-5851 for directions , if needed.

Other groups can be found listed on the back of the bulletin. Most of them meet on Sunday evenings. A group, taught by Mike Reeves, also meets on Wednesday mornings at the church building. On Thursday evenings, the teen group (TNT), and one in Post Falls, taught by Bob Brown, meets in Post Falls. A ladies study also meets on Wednesdays at noon at the home of Georgette Rude.

These groups are designed to provide not only Bible Study, but a time for prayer, outreach, and closer fellowship. Be sure to be a participant in one of these.
