Family News June 24, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner Our annual Missions Seminar will be next Sunday-Tuesday, July 1-3. Jerry, Pam, and Levi Sisemore will be with us for this seminar. They have been serving the Lord as missionaries in Barnaul, Siberia, Russia. They are home in the States for a while. We have had the privilege of being able to help support them in this work for the past 4 years. The theme of our meeting is "Think Globally, Act Locally." Even though, Siberia may be thousands of miles away, everyone of us has a responsibility to bloom right where we are. They will be sharing with us not only the exciting things happening in Russia, but will also share with us about what we can do right in here in the Coeur d'Alene area. Because this meeting will be Monday through Tuesday, and to encourage maximum attendance, the Bible Study Groups will be here on Sunday evening and Wednesday Bible Study (July 4) will not be offered. Please be sure to be in attendance at every session. See the accompanying article for times. Last Tuesday evening, there were ten individuals who assembled, prayed, and went out on various visits/studies. Soul-Winning Night will take place every Tuesday evening. We will meet at 6:30 pm to pray together, team up in pairs and seek to put in a good word for the Lord. The purpose of this is to make soul-winning a priority. The final marching orders of Jesus included these words, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20. Most of us intend to share the message with someone as we are able. The problem is that is is all too easy to allow other "good" things to distract us and we look up down the road and realize that we have never been able to do what we intend. Come on out and join us as we seek to encourage the disheartened, study the gospel with those who need to know Jesus, and seek out lost sheep to bring them back into Christ's fold. Jenny Brown shared this prose with me this week that is very appropriate: "People before things; people before projects; family before friends; husband/wife before children; husband/wife before parents; tithe before wants; Bible before opinions; Jesus before all." Have a Great Week!! "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy." Colossians
1:18
ACT LOCALLY Our annual missions seminar starts next Sunday, July 1 and will extend through Tuesday evening, July 3. Jerry, Pam, and Levi Sisemore will be here to share with us the exciting work going on in Siberia, Russia. Also Jim Miller, of Kalispell, Montana, will be here. Jim has been to Eastern Russia several times and will be able to share with us how we can be a part of that great work. With July 4 falling on a Wednesday and the meeting extending through Tuesday, we will not be meeting that Wednesday night for our normal Bible study time. The week's Bible Study Groups will not be meeting as well. Be sure to be here at all the following sessions: Sunday:

Mike's Memos HONORS - HONORS - HONORS Yes, I am still trying to share the outstanding scholastic accomplishments of our teens. I sincerely hope I don't miss anyone but if I do, I apologize in advance. If I missed information from you or about your child or grandchild, get it to me and I'll print it. This will not be, cannot be, an exhaustive list of all the achievements of the kids in our youth group, but here's more of what I know...... Garret Jaynes was an honor Freshman at Cd'A High School with a 4.00 grade point average for the whole year. Zach Shaner received a Target All-Around Scholarship, Abilene Presidential Scholarship Award, the President's Award for Academic Excellence, served as a Natural Helper, was in National Honor Society, was chosen for Who's Who of American High Schools, and received the Departmental Scholastic Award for Drama. Mallory Jaynes was selected to Who's Who in American High Schools, was an Idaho Top Scholar, was chosen as Scholar of the Month, was a member of National Honor Society, received the President's Award for Academic Excellence, and graduated with highest honors with a 3.9 GPA. Scott Simpson was a 3.50-3.99 Honor Student at the Charter Academy, received the 8th grade "Respect Award", and was selected to participate in the special "Math Counts" program. Shepherd's Corner Welcome to the newest corner of the bulletin. Each week we hope to share something from the Elders. This week I would like to encourage each of us to take an acting part in the Tuesday soul winning time. It is so hard to set time aside to be consistent, however, sometimes having a set time will allow us to manage our time better. By devoting this time we should all feel part of the work to help others learn about Christ or renew those who have fallen away. Please come and help us.
