Family News June 17, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner Last week, we reported that a lady from South Dakota called to offer assistance to the McGuckin children who were involved in the "North Idaho Standoff." A special trust for the children has been set up through the district attorney's office. If you would like to make a donation on their behalf, you may make your donations to the Dalton Gardens church of Christ. Reference your check with "North Idaho Benevolence." Do not put any names as charitable contributions can not be designated to an individual. Any checks that come in for that purpose will go towards the care of the children. This is an opportunity to be generous and share with others in need. I realize that you have been asked to give towards other good works lately. You may not be able to give to everything, but if you are able to help, this is an opportunity for this family to know that we care. This Tuesday evening, we will be starting "Soul-Winning Night." The preachers, elders, along with others who are able to devote about 1 1/2 hours, will be going out to encourage and teach others about our Lord. These visits will be designed to accomplish several things. Some of these will be Bible studies to lead someone to the Lord that currently is lost. Others may involve seeking to regain a sheep that has lost its way. Still some will be for general encouragement or helping some to find their gifts in the church so that they can become more involved. We would like to encourage you to be a part of this effort. We will be meeting each Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm, spend some time in prayer, and then going out in twos on our visits. Of course, Bible studies can be taught just about any time. However, setting aside a specific time for this, makes it a priority. It is all too easy to allow good intentions to never come to fruition. By setting aside a specific time, we are going out on purpose. Likewise, if you have a person that you would like to visit/study with and need someone to go with you, be sure to let either Don Rude or myself know. We will be happy to seek out someone to go with you. There are many methods for teaching someone else about the Lord. I don't know that one is better than another. What is important is that we go and teach. Jesus has promised that He will be with each of us as we go. That's a pretty good partner to take with you. Have a Great Week!! "Honor your father and mother"- which is the first commandment with a promise - "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Ephesians
6:2-3
Happy Father's Day!
THINK GLOBALLY, ACTING LOCALLY Most would rank the apostle Paul as the ultimate missionary. Yet, in 2 Corinthians 4:7 he speaks of himself as a clay jar - one with human frailty which notes power of service is from God and not from himself. Getting to know the Sisemores, who will be here in two weeks, is to know clay pot servants. We can catch the idea from a recent e-mail communication. "We're definitely not a sports family - our idea of participating in a sport is watching someone else play or perform!... Just to be in the U.S., with its wonderful food, friendly people, and great shopping opportunities (and everything, especially worship services, in English!) is almost more than we can handle!... We really appreciate your caring about our desires and needs. We're not used to getting what we want! Our favorite foods are Mexican, Italian (including pizza!), and Chinese, none of which we can get here. The only things we don't like are fish and liver. ....For breakfast we truly enjoy good ole' American cold cereal and toast, which are also unavailable here." These humble servants are part of exciting developments in the Barnaul church and School of Preaching. The growth of the church, property ownership for the church with building up-grading, training of an increasing number of men and women to be preachers and teachers, and much more will be reported upon during the three days they are in Coeur d'Alene. We of Dalton Gardens share with the Sisemores and with the brothers and sisters of Siberia in the Lord's work. Jars of clay working cooperatively, that describes us.
Medicine Donations Still Needed! The Sisemores, our missionaries from Siberia, will be here July1-3. There are a number of items that you may be able to help with that they can take back with them. Any of the following would be very helpful: Simple over-the-counter cold remedies; antihistamines, nasal and chest decongestants, all in pill/tablet form, both for adults and children. They are also in need of prenatal vitamins for three women. Let's try and fill the box located on the kiosk in the foyer before the Sisemores arrive in two weeks! Thanks for your support! LET'S FILL THE BOX!!
