Stuff   Dave Shaner

Bob Russell, the evangelist for the church in Louisville, Kentucky, was the first one I heard to use the phrase in regard to church work, "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." What is our bottom line? The church here in Dalton has somewhat tried to target the teachings of the New Testament into three main areas, Winning, Maturing, and Knitting. Of course, in many ways, all three of these interrelate to one another. The more people feel a part of the family, the more people will make themselves available to teaching and the more attractive the church will be towards the lost. This can be worked in reverse as well. As more and more souls are led to Jesus, more excitement is built into the encouraging and teaching, and the more part of the family everyone feels. Ultimately, the goal of the church is for people to go to heaven. After all, what good is it to have great social and teaching programs if the end result does not lead to heaven? Jesus said it like this, What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? - Mark 8:36. Jesus came for one purpose, "to seek and save the lost" - Luke 19:10. How are you/we doing in reaching out to the lost? Are you/we keeping the main thing the main thing?

I am reminded of what God said through the prophet, Jeremiah. "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved." Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? - Jeremiah 8:20-22. We have now entered the sixth month of the year. Summer is just around the corner. Many good things have been happening here. Several have been baptized recently as they have come to faith in Christ. After the summer will be we be able to look back and see the harvest? Of course, spiritually, the Lord has already made the sacrifice. He is now asking us to plant the seed, water it, and watch Him work His miracles in the lives of people. We are participants with Him in the greatest work in the world. God needs people who are not afraid to see his vision, who are not afraid to step out and work with Him. What is your vision for the kingdom of God in CDA right now? Sometimes it's easy to lose our vision. Strange as it may sound, one of the hardest things for a church to keep before it is God. It is easy to allow the bustle of good activities to distract us from the main thing. Activity does not always equal accomplishment. Fix your eyes upon Jesus and make what was the main thing for Jesus, your main thing.

Have a Great Week!

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. "
I John 4:7-8

Good Morning Everyone!

This afternoon, there will be a meeting at 2:00 p.m. to brainstorm ideas, suggestions, and share feelings in order to provide continual improvements in the Leadership Training for Christ program. This meeting is for all interested adults including parents, non-parents, LTC team members and former members. Please pray for the Lord's help and strength in this endeavor.

Reception For the 2001 Graduates

The 2001 graduates, and their parents, would like to invite you to stay after services on June 10th. Cake and refreshments will be served in the small auditorium to honor our graduates. We are so proud of our young adults.

Going and Growing

God has blessed us with a great family. Let's get together and make some memories. Fellowship Day is June 10th. - Baseball, Volleyball, or if you want to play board games, bring them. We may be able to play Horseshoes if we can figure out how to make a temporary pit without damaging the grass.

The sun will shine, the birds will sing,
So come on out and do your thing.

Lots of fun for you and me,
I hope that you will come and see.

Just visiting time will be a treat,
And don't forget, we're going to eat.

The fun will start at about two(2:00)
The time to stop is when you're through.

We're going to be eating at around five(5:00)
So eat some lunch to stay alive.

One more thing we'd recommend,
Bring a neighbor; Bring a friend.

Mission Donations Needed!

The Sisemores, our missionaries from Siberia, will be here July1-3. There are a number of items that you may be able to help with that they can take back with them. Any of the following would be very helpful: Simple over-the-counter cold remedies; antihistamines, nasal and chest decongestants, all in pill/tablet form, both for adults and children. They are also in need of prenatal vitamins for three women. They have a hard time getting it over in Russia, and would really appreciate these items to take back with them. You may place your donations in the box in the church office. Thanks for your support!

Mike's Memos

Some anonymous writer has written down some things that many of us have learned over the years.....

...that you can keep going long after you can't

...that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance

...that either you control your attitude or it controls you

...that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel

...that heros are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences

...that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself

...that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different

...that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become

...that maturity has more to do with the experiences you've had and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated

...that it takes me a long time to become the person that I want to be

God's Family

The Bible is the core of our curriculum. So, it is natural to share with you each time I write..... about what our K-2nd grade students are learning about God's word. This week we have been talking about "Families". How does each person fit into the family? Peter's mother-in-law must have felt special as Jesus healed her. . . She was an excellent example to her family. She showed her gratefulness by serving Jesus and her family. (Mark1:29-34)

Jesus is the Alpha and Omega and has shown us from the beginning of time just how important families are. God knew best when He designed "The Family". We all have our unique families, yet there are so many similarities that bind us together. God speaks to us in His word about our primary purpose in this life: "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. . . (Eph. 5:25) He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children. . . . (Luke 1:17) How do you show love to your family?

The children are learning a beautiful song; "Welcome to the Family". The lyrics are just what I need to hear these days. I hope you enjoy them as I have. . .

In His Service,

Terri DuPey

Welcome to the family

We're glad that you have come

To share your life with us as we grow in love

And may we always be to you what

God would have us be

A family always there, to be strong and to lean on

May we learn to love each other more

with each new day

May words of love be on our lips in

everything we say

May the Spirit melt our hearts and

teach how to pray

That we might be a true family
