April 29, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner I appreciate Mike Swaim addressing the church towards the need for our recognition of the value of Christian education. All Christian values need to start in the home. Fathers are encouraged to educate their children both in teaching and example. We are to talk about it throughout life settings and in actual sit down instruction. (Deuteronomy 6). Obviously with the church being the agency through whom God's will is to be made known, we need to be in a primary position to encourage and aid all Christians to equip themselves as complete as possible to develop a Christian mindset. There are many ways in which this could be accomplished. We need to meet regularly for the purpose of continuing steadfastly in the "apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." ( Acts 2:42). Our entire families need to be present for every assembly and Bible class. We would also encourage you to be a regular and active member of a Bible Study Group. The Coeur d'Alene Christian School (CCS) is another tool whereby we can have our children learn, not only the scriptures, but general education with a spiritual viewpoint rather than a worldly mindset. If your child is not currently enrolled in CCS, give some serious consideration to this avenue of training. We are bombarded everyday either at work or school with this worldly point of view. Our government, the media, and our schools have increasingly drifted away from spiritual perspectives. We need to saturate our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can change the world for God one person at a time. With each of us being committed to bringing simply one person to Christ each year, the local church would be double its size next year. With the power of multiplication, we could, through the power of God's Holy Spirit, make world evangelism a reality. Theoretically, by doubling ourselves each year, we could reach the entire world in less than 25 years. And that is if it only starts with us, not counting other Christians throughout the world doing the same thing! It has to start somewhere. Why not say, "It will start with me." God is looking not so much for talent as he is for willing and available messengers. His grace will always equip you to do the job if you are willing. When Isaiah was asked who God would send out, he responded by saying, "Here am I. Send me." - Isaiah 6:8 Have a Great Week !!! Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. - Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Reminder: ELDERS/ DEACONS/ STAFF... Don't forget May 6 is a special time of prayer at 3:00 P.M. It would be powerful if, while the leaders are praying for you, the congregation would be praying for them.
Missions Emphasis at the church of Christ in Richland, WA May 4th - 6th As co-workers in the kingdom, sharing the mission work of David & Becky Reeves in Togo, Africa, it would be of benefit to all concerned if we could share in Richland's Missions Emphasis Workshop. Greg Newton, 10 year missionary in Africa, will be their speaker. Greg now works with the Homewood church in Birmingham, Alabama, another congregation supporting part of the Togo team. Anyone interested in being a more active part of our mission efforts by attending this workshop, contact Ivan Archer or Mike Reeves.
Camp Prince's Pine On May 11-13 we will be having a work time to do needed maintenance and to make upgrades that will improve the camp. We need workers, men, women and children, and those who will agree to organize a crew to do the work. We will be staining cabins, building in bunks, insulating the lodge and just in general making the camp better. Gerald Smith, of Colville, will have all the needed supplies there for us and we need only bring tools and energy. We realize that not all will be able to be there for all three days, many will need to come up on Friday night so they can be ready to go to work early on Saturday. This will be a great family outing and will show the camp board that you appreciate having the facility available for our families. If you plan to go, food will be provided. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the foyer for you to indicate your willingness to help and where you prefer to work. Please sign-up soon so we can plan for the necessary food. " Thank you." Bob Harman, President Camp Prince's Pine

Automated Religion A man walked up to a vending machine, put in a coin, pressed a button labeled "coffee, double cream, sugar." No cup appeared but the nozzle went into action sending forth coffee, cream, and sugar. After the proper amounts had gone down the drain, the machine turned off. "Now that's real automation!" exclaimed the man, "This thing even drinks it for you." That is just how some people want their religion. They want to make a deposit, put in some money, and let the rest be taken care of automatically. But there are no such things as automated prayers, automated devotion, automated worship, or automated service in benevolence. The religion of Jesus requires personal engagement. Beware of automated religion!

CCS Corner - School News God has blessed each child with so many talents. The children would like to share their gifts with you as they will be performing the 17th of May. Our theme for the talent show this year is "God's Sea". Through the years it has been our desire to teach the children that God will always be there, He keeps his promises, His love is unending . . . . . and we in turn want to show our love for Him by sailing our ships . . . . following the light of our Savior . . . . . on God's sea. Jog-A-Thon Our annual jog-a-thon will be held May 4. Please sponsor a student . . . or a teacher! I plan to jog at least 20 laps . . . Do you think I can do it? Teri DuPey CCS Auction News Words cannot express the appreciation we have for all of you who helped with the auction. It became a team effort by parents, students, church members and businesses. We thank you in all sincerity and thank God he has blessed us with each other! A special thanks to those of you who baked - some of the most creative and delicious recipes! We have so much culinary talent here! The auction cleared just under $8,000.00, which is down still from previous auctions, we certainly praise the Lord for what we received and the generosity of the bidders. We would like to thank everyone individually, since there were so many, but of course that is next to impossible. So to each of you, as we know who you are, please know how very grateful we are to you for giving your time, abilities and donations! The CCS Auction Committee If I had my child to raise all over again . . . . I'd finger paint more and point fingers less. I'd do less correcting and more connecting. I'd take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes. I'd take more hikes and fly more kites. I'd stop playing serious and more seriously play. I'd run through more fields and gaze at more stars. I'd do more hugging and less tugging. I'd be firm less often and affirm much more. I'd build self-esteem first and the house later. I'd teach less about the love of power and more about the power of love. Dianna Loomans, TN
Camp Prince's Pine "We have not been asking for your financial help for a long time now. And I am not here to ask for your money today. What I want is your physical help! I don't think I need to tell most of you what the camp has done for this church and for the cause of Christ in the Northwest. Many of our strongest young adults have come through our camp over the last 19 years and I believe camp has contributed greatly to that strength. We have had a strong teaching /counseling staff for a long time. On May 11-13 we will be having a work time to do needed maintenance and to make upgrades that will improve the camp. We need workers, men, women and children, and those who will agree to organize a crew to do the work. We will be staining cabins, building in bunks, insulating the lodge and just in general making the camp better.
