April 15, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner The Dalton Gardens church of Christ wishes to extend a warm welcome to all of our visitors today. Your interest and desire to serve God encourages each of us. We trust that your experience with us today helps you to draw closer to our heavenly father and other Christians. The Dalton church family is an undenominational group of believers in Jesus Christ. We seek to escape from the trappings of human religion and the man-made rules that are not in keeping with the scriptures. Our sole rule of faith is God's Word. His teachings can be compared with a free flowing stream of water. Over the years man has (with good intention) dammed up the flow by their denominational teachings. The result is that men tend to see a badly divided religious world with each church claiming to be the best choice for you. At the heart of Jesus' prayer in John 17 is a desire for the unity of all believers. The unity Jesus prayed for was based on His truth revealed in the scriptures. No man or group is to have a claim on truth. Truth is the possession of any man who seeks it. Jesus promised that you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. He also promised that if you seek it, you will find it. Man does not decide what is true. God declares it. We believe it. Part of the trouble is that man tends to believe what he wants and only believes what is compatible with his own preconceived belief structure. While it is true that some matters are left up for an individual's opinion, other things are clearly revealed to us by God in His Word. One thing that all believers can unite on is God's revealed Word. Human creeds, catechisms, and traditions can never be a basis for unity. You do not have to give in to man's teachings. Learn to separate what man says from what God reveals. Seek to be simply a Christian. Allow God's Word to be your blueprint for life. He will never let you down. The church on earth is simply God's family. Locally, each congregation is a part of the one and only true church which Jesus died to establish. While any church may not be right in every area, we must strive to be as Christ-like as possible. The plea to be just a Christian without any denominational suffixes may be foreign to a "attend the church of your choice world", it is still a very worthy goal.If we can ever be of any help to you in helping you to find God, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a Great Week !!! For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.. - I Corinthians 15:3-4 GOOD NEWS The angels in heaven rejoiced last Tuesday evening as Becky Manuel was baptized into Jesus Christ. She is a student at NIC and on their soccer team. Sarah Meyer and Russ Allen had been studying the scriptures with her. Be sure to welcome Becky into the family of God and keep her new walk with the Lord in your prayers. Her address is: 710 River Ave. #327

This church is prayer conditioned!
People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Mike's Memos "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" John 13:35 Before the coming of the European culture to the Western Hemisphere, the Eskimos lived in tightly knit clans. They had no prisons, and no death penalty. Eskimos found guilty of taking the life of another were simply excluded from the fellowship of the tribe. They would not be received into other igloos nor was their existence acknowledged in any way. The enormity of this punishment was so dreadful that it robbed their lives of all meaning. They could not face the bleak pospect of solitary life in the Arctic. Consequently, serious crime was rare among them. Sociologists tell us that one of the basic human needs is to belong to a social unit in which a person feels valued, appreciated, and protected. Perhaps we need to be reminded that the church is a social as well as a religious organization. When Jesus prayed for unity in John 17, his prayer spoke of the close love relationship between him and his Father. Our text says that it is the bond of love that will convince the world that we are truly Christ's disciples. An opponent of the early church observed that a Roman was only concerned for himself, a Jew would care for other Jews, but a Christian would help anyone. He was moved to exclaim, "Behold, how these Christians love each other." The church is to be a loving family, a haven of refuge from an uncaring world. When it is less than that, the ties of Christian fellowship are often too weak to withstand the pull of sin. We must strengthen the social structure of the Lord's family. Is the bond of love here in the Dalton Gardens church so strong, and so inclusive that our youth, our college students, our single parents, our young couples, our older members, our new members and our visitors easily recognize that we are disciples of Jesus? Do they feel valued, appreciated, and protected? Is the possibility of exclusion from this church family a deterrent to sin? I wonder? MY APOLOGIES to Christy Simpson and her family. Christy was among our top honor roll scholars for last grading period, also having a 4.0 grade point average. Congratulations! TNT - THURSDAY NIGHT FOR TEENS SCHEDULE: April 19 Reeves' Home

CCS Corner - School News Do YOU Know your Extended Family? Did you know that the Church is an extended family? Did YOU know that the Christian School is an extended family? Together we accomplish many great things for God! Each one helps the other. The school reminds the child daily about God and his commandments. This often reinforces the home Bible instruction, but often it is the only instruction and Bible knowledge that many children receive! What an outreach and mission this is for God's Church! "A young boy sits alone on a park bench. Another one approaches the bench and sits down with quite a bit of distance between them. "I'm Billy, and I don't have any friends," the first boy says after a few moments of silence, without even looking up at the other boy. "I'm Joe, and I don't have any friends either," the second boy responds. Following another period of silence, Billy speaks. "Why don't we start a club for people who don't have any friends?" The world is full of people like Billy and Joe. They feel alienated and lonely. It is not isolated to children. The Church and school are here for these people. God created us to "need" each other! The Father's first institution to provide that need was the home, and when homes are what He meant them to be, family members usually feel secure and are able to extend this beyond their physical families. But, many homes are NOT what God intended! Family members wander around trying to fill this void. The Church is here to help with this void. The Christian School is here to help fill this void. We are all members of one family. We have a Father who loves us with a constant, undeserved, immeasurable love! "I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters says the Lord!" II Cor. 6:18 God also wants us to bring up our children in the ways He has commanded. This is the future of His Church. Thank God for our Christian School and mission work that continues there daily! Dan Dupey CCS Auction News! We are approaching the deadline for items to be donated to the auction and would appreciate everyone getting them in before Tuesday, April 10th to the school office.
