April 1, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner LTC (Leadership Training for Christ) is starting to wind down and gear up for this year. It is winding down as it will be completed in only 2 weeks. Both older teens and young children have been working hard for nearly a year studying the book of Revelation, completing service projects, practicing spiritual drama skits, singing and more singing, among many other items. It is gearing up in that the most intensive part is now taking the spotlight. They will be journeying to Phoenix, Arizona in less than two weeks to share their skills with other congregations affiliated with the churches of Christ. This always proves to be a time of spiritual learning, wonderful fellowship with other LTCers, and a great sense of satisfaction that comes with a job well done. Some may ask why we send our young people so far away for only a few days. Different things motivate each of us in different ways. This is a great motivational tool in encouraging our young people to learn the scriptures and accomplish that which might not otherwise take place. Could this happen in other ways? It could but it may not yield the same result. Over the years, individual churches that have participated in LTC from all over the U.S. have reported that those who participate in the program show a much greater likelihood of remaining faithful to the Lord after they leave home. What motivates you? Whatever it takes, if it is a good program, if it is in keeping with the Lord's will, and if it encourages people to pursue the Lord, then let's support it wholeheartedly. As they gear up and wind down, keep them in your prayers as this is crunch time for them. We would like to encourage you to evaluate your financial giving to the church. Many factors can influence a person's giving to the Lord. For the last month, we have averaged $1,200 a week less than what our budget calls for! Just as in a family budget when outgo exceeds income, either more resources need to come in or something significant will have to be cut. The Dalton church budget is not extravagant at all but is really quite slim. You may give in a variety of ways, but the giving of your finances is an important part of your spiritual life. Let's all pitch in a little more so we can both grow as givers and meet our congregational goals. Have a Great Week!! "This church is prayer conditioned." ELDERS / DEACONS/ STAFF Special time of prayer at 3:00 this afternoon!!!! It would be powerful if, while they are praying for you, the congregation would be praying for your leaders at that time.

CCS Corner - School News The fourth and fifth graders have just completed their quilt for the auction. My class has made a quilt each year since I have started teaching. It is one of my favorite annual projects. One of the most fun parts of the quilt project is seeing the designs that the students create. I give the students specific instructions on how many types of fabrics to use and how many triangles there are per block. Then I let them get creative and design their blocks. It always amazes me how over the years, using the same instructions, they come up with new and unique patterns. I am also surprised each year after the students have sewn their blocks not so perfectly. The seams are not all straight. The edges are not even. Strings are hanging everywhere. I always wonder how the quilt will turn out. Then I start putting the blocks together. Before my eyes, the not-so-perfect blocks come together to form a beautiful quilt. The whole process reminds me of the church. God gives us specific guidelines for building our lives. It is amazing how each Christian takes these guidelines and creates a uniquely inspiring life with God's guidance. There are times when our lives are separated and they don't look so good. Everything is uneven, and things are not straight. But when our lives come together in the church, Jesus covers those uneven edges. He helps us use our loose strings to help others. Every individual joins with the rest to form a wonderful blanket of beauty and comfort. Marcie Nelson
CCS Auction News! We would appreciate all who are attending the auction to pre-register on the kiosk in the foyer. We are still in need of donations, especially the "kids table". Anyone interested in donating items that the children will be bidding on can drop them off in the church or school office. Big or small we need it all! Any questions you may call Kim Howard at 772-0541.
World Bible School Bible lessons are coming in very slowly, but we are pleased with the ones that have come in. According to the letters we have received the World Bible School lessons are doing great. Through the study of the lessons there have been quite a few students baptized. I think it would be great to go over to Africa to talk to some of our students. We could send many more lessons for the money a trip like that would cost. Ron & Margie Dupey
