February 11, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner Last week was a great week for the church here and for the Lord. We had three that gave their lives to the Lord in baptism. I like what Helen Young said about baptism. "It is always a thrill to see a person come forth from baptism. Baptism is the defining moment." There are many things that influence to obey the Lord - our study of scriptures, the conviction of the Holy Spirit, our upbringing, or maybe the influence of close friends. Maybe what counts the most is our own personal desire to be obedient to Him. No group has a corner on the market when it comes to truth. It is free to all and any one can read the scriptures for himself and obey it. When Bea Phippen responded to the invitation of Christ last Sunday and was asked, "How can we help you?", she simply said, "I want to be saved." We offered to study with her some more, which she was eager to do, but she said, "I've heard enough. I want to be baptized now!" That reminds me of every example of salvation in the New Testament. When they knew what they needed to do to get right with God, they did not wait until it was convenient for the church. They asked to be baptized right away. Churches should never "schedule" baptisms as if it were just a formality. It is a defining moment. Felix is an example of one who wanted to do his thing on his own terms. The scripture says, "As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you." He wanted it to be convenient for him. We have no record of him ever having obeyed the Lord. One young person told me that she wanted to be baptized in about a few months so she could do it on her mother's birthday. If this was her motivation, then she was not ready to be baptized. When you are seized by Jesus Christ and his life for you, you do not want to wait until the perfect time. The apostle Paul records, For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. - II Corinthians 6:2. You never know how long you have. When you realize that you have sinned and can not save yourself, and when you realize that Jesus is the only answer to your dilemma, respond immediately. HAVE A GREAT WEEK !! You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. -

Two Croatian girls carol at a holiday celebration in Zagreb which included distribution of shoes boxes of presents sent by the Magi Project. Ten thousand shoe boxes of gifts were packed and distributed to five foreign countries, including Croatia, by American Christians during the holiday season. The project is coordinated by Manna International, Redwood City, California.; Love in Action, Dallas, Texas; and Healing Hands International, Nashville, Tennessee. It is good to hear positive reports of the special help given by The Magi Project. Coeur d'Alene Christian School and this congregation sent 60 of the Christmas gift boxes.

New Secretary We would like to welcome Kim Howard into the office to serve as a secretary for Dave and Mike. She will be doing a great variety of jobs. If the office can ever help you in your ministry, be sure to let Dave or Mike know as they will be coordinating her work. We want to help you in any way that we can without overloading her. A church secretary's job is sometimes made difficult by the constant influx of traffic and phone calls. This is good, however, as we are here to serve you. Be sure to pray for Kim considering who she has (gets) to work with.
Wednesday Night LADIES Class All ladies are welcome to join the study of Esther, Wednesday, 6:30 pm in the small auditorium. Yet those who wait for the

A FATHER'S LOVE Stretch; reach out for a new view of things.... Don't let the doldrums rule! Look up! This week K-2nd are studying a family in Luke, chapter fifteen.... Many knew this story by a different title... They see the son as having the staring role....Not so! Our Father's love is what its all about...He never stops loving us...though we fail Him over and over. The children talked about the relationships they have with their earthly fathers; about the special things they do together and how much their Dad's love them. They acted-out the role of the Father from Luke:15...I could see the excitement in their eyes...when looking for the son to return....and then the celebration! The children learned that God our heavenly Father wants and expects us to turn from wrong by admitting the wrong, being truly sorrowful and to do what is right. Our father loves us always. Science Projects First and second grade students are working on two projects. Parents are involved with their child on one of the two. The other is done in a group of five. The titles of our three group projects are: Trees, The Ocean, and Insects. Students work will be displayed in our annual "Creativity Fair" held March 27 this year. Teri Dupey
