February 4, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner Word has it that the upcoming Sweethearts Banquet is sure to become favorite in everyone's yearly calendar. If you have not registered, you do need to let Ken Neubauer know by today. He has a secret way of making Prime Rib that will cause everyone to want more. The food, however, is not what is important. The Knit Ministry's goal is to help us become a closer unit as a church and in our marriages. Church is not just about what goes on during our Sunday meetings or in our Bible Study Groups. God wants our relationships in our families to thrive as well. He is the author of marriage and wants us to be the very best husbands and wives that we are capable of being. Everything each of us does affects our relationship with God in one way or another. As a church, we need to encourage each other to become what God wants us to become in all areas of our lives. I say all of this to encourage you to sign up for the Sweethearts Banquet. Do so today! One month of 2001 is already behind us. How are you doing in some of the goals you have set? Several have let me know this past week that you have been a daily Bible reader. If you have not, you can still start. It is better to read the scriptures for 10 minutes a day than it is to read for hours only one day a week. We need daily sustenance from the Lord. Not every session will cause you to walk away jumping up and down, but over the course of time, you will have received nourishment from God causing your spiritual health to be improved. Also have you been reaching out to some of your friends, neighbors, or co-workers. Our series on "Leading Others to Light" right now is focusing on baptism. This is such a misunderstood subject in the Christian world today. Yet, it is essential to anyone's relationship with God. Bring someone with you to the church assembly next week as we seek to help others connect with Jesus Christ. Our goal, as a church family, is to baptize 52 this year. The numbers are simply to motivate us to keep the Lord's final marching orders at the forefront of our thinking. What is important is that as this goal is reached, one more soul is saved. Have a Great Week!! You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. - Galatians 3:26-27 GOING and GROWIN SweetHearts Banquet It's just a name to try and

David Reeves writes that finally lots of the preliminary work is out of the way and the team has begun to go on a regular basis out to villages around Kara to extend their language and cultural learning. Two of the villages are Inja and Agbe in the canton (county) of Sirka. They are excited about the 8 - 10 villages, 6 to 10 thousand people, in Sirka because there is absolutely no presence of protestant Christianity there. These are people who know nothing about Jesus. We feel that God is leading us in this direction, David writes, because the canton chief has given us permission to visit whenever we want, and the green light to teach and preach. To have this approval of the chief is a real blessing to the work. Another blessing is the permission of the Inja Village Chief to repair a traditional Kabiye homestead which has been abandoned for some time. This will create some excellent interaction with the village natives. They will probably get some good laughs at the white men's clumsy efforts! When finished, the home will give team members a place to go and stay for extended periods of time to be among the people in a place exactly like their own. They can interact with the villagers while they practice their language skills and practice teaching in the Kabiye language. Team members have already visited in a dozen village dwellings and have been received warmly. The compound has three sleeping rooms, a grain storage hut, and a traditional African stove. It is situated centrally between 10-15 other family compounds. David says they can easily walk to any of these compounds within 10-20 minutes, offering almost limitless opportunities for contact with the Kabiye people. They were to begin renovation this past week, expecting an audience of natives to watch the white people rebuild an African dwelling to live in. I'm sure they will enjoy the show! David asks that we be in prayer for the villages and people of Sirka, that God will be working mightily in this wonderful opportunity.

God has blessed me with a wonderful group of kindergartners. Each one of them has such a different personality. For the month of January we had a unit study on penguins, we had stories, fun facts. They each designed their own penguin at home and brought them to school and told a story about them. Some of them were even enjoyed at snacktime. What creative children. The school as a whole has been very busy also. We just finished our candy bar sales and would like to express our thanks to all who participated. We are still selling the Peeler Cards. If you don't have one yet, you are really missing out on some area savings. Look for our VALENTINE SALES. Don't forget about that special valentine.
