January 28, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner We appreciate all of your comments at last week's congregational meeting. We had a very good turnout, especially considering the bad weather that we were experiencing. At that meeting, some of our goals were explored. We also presented the budget for the year 2001. All of the activities of the church were grouped under one of the 3 ministries of the church - Winning the Lost, Maturing the Saints, and Knitting the Body Together. Last year, we gave an average of $4,144 per week in our regular giving. There were also special projects such as individual missions, benevolence, building upgrades, etc. that totaled $78,000. Including our special giving over the regular budget, you gave an average of $5,684! This year, the regular weekly budget has been raised to $4,663. The deacons and elders put together this budget and feel that it is well within our reach. Of course, much of the Lord's work does not require money at all. Each of us need to share the gospel with our friends and neighbors. If we reach our goal of leading others to Christ, this budget will be no problem. If each existing member of the Dalton church would give consistently each week, we would have no problem reaching this goal at all. If each member gave 10%, we would more than double this goal. Giving is a grace from God and all that we have comes form the hand of God. Be sure to evaluate what you are able to give and that it is a reflection of your relationship to God. It is not the size of the gift that counts, but the sacrifice. The Lord's work is not as dependent on money as it is on individual commitment of Christians. Remember that God has asked us to be His co-worker in the ministry of reconciliation. You are often asked to give to many good works throughout the year. When these opportunities arise, be generous in your support of these. "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. - II Corinthians 9:7-8. When you have the opportunity to give, be generous. Be sure to keep God's work, the church, your priority in your personal finances. God will provide so that you will be taken care of yourself. Jesus said, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33 HAVE A GREAT WEEK !! For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2: 8-9 GOING and GROWIN SweetHearts Banquet The Sweetheart Banquet! Wednesday Night Praise and Worship! This Wednesday evening will be a special time of singing, prayer, and encouragement. We will be meeting in the small auditorium at 6:30 pm. This time is set aside every last Wednesday of each month. It offers us a great chance to sing some old and new songs, to get to know others better, to give others an opportunity to share some short lessons who otherwise might not have the priviledge. If you would like to participate with a song, a scripture, or some appropriate comments, be sure to see John Erwin. Come on and be sure to join us as we worship the Lord together. Come early and join us in the Soup Kitchen for a meal together as well.
Ladies Fall Fellowship Meeting We will be having a Ladies Fall Fellowship meeting Sunday, February 4 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. here at the building. We need to make some important decisions about this years Ladies Fall Fellowship and begin assembling our committees. Your presence is needed as we work together to bring glory to God. Please plan to come. For more information see Jean Grow or Mary Petersen.
Prayer Requests Last Thursday, our brother, Mark Mood, was sentenced to 4 years in jail. Only 2 of these years are fixed, which means that he would be eligible for parole after 2 years. He will be serving his time in Boise. Hopefully, after some time, he will be able to be transferred closer to Orofino. Mark wishes to thank everyone for helping him to come to Christ and for all the support that you have given him. Be sure to keep him in your prayers. Don't just be supportive of him as he starts this sentence, but make it a habit to pray for him, and to write to him regularly for the duration of his stay. As tough as it will be, pray for his faith and that God will cause good to happen as a result of this. Also be sure to keep his wife, Mandy, as well as their children, Marcus & Lyric, in your prayers. Thomas Kellum, son of Steve and Gwin Kellum, recent visitors here, is having complicated surgery for 2 ruptured hernias and is in lots of pain at this time. They live in Merced, California. Jeff Hall is now in jail in Kingman, Arizona. At this time, we are not sure what the process is as he faces some charges from 10 years ago. Currently, he is also awaiting a liver transplant, so keep this in your prayers as well. Pray for strength for his wife, Sherry, and their children to deal with his absence. Sherry asks for our help to make ends meet while Jeff is gone....if anyone has house-cleaning needs, call her at 452-0881. Howard Rude Sr. wants to thank you all for the prayers, thoughts, calls, and cards during his cancer treatments and surgery. The cancer seems to be gone now, thanks to all of you. Al and Anita Poland want to thank all of you for your comforting words, cards, and prayers after the loss of Anita's mother. Thank you Ryan Rouse for your special kindness. We love you all. A co-worker of Judy Sanbourn's has asked us to pray for some close friend of hers. Mike and Heidi had a baby boy last week after a stressful pregnancy. The baby was to have surgery in Spokane to remove one lung, but when they went in to remove the bad lung, they found he had 3 lungs! They removed the bad one and he still has 2 good lungs. Praise God! He is not out of the woods yet and prayers are still requested. Thank You from Ken and Bobbie Neubauer and family for all of the prayers for Ken and Aaron. Both are doing better at this time. Thank You from Ron and Barb Cooper for all of the prayers, cards and telephone calls. If any can assist them with meals, contact Suzy Litalien. Continue to pray for Patty Welter's back problems. Georgette Rude wishes to thank the church for prayers on behalf of her friend, Carol Marinoff who passed away Thursday. Remember Georgette in her loss. Pray for Jim & Diane Rude's safety during the earthquake aftermath in India. We believe they were in a different part of the country. They will be returning home next week. Monica Keough writes "My family and I thank you for the cards and prayers given these past few weeks. For those of you who braved the icy "goat trail" and came to the funeral, thank you, it meant a lot to dad and I. And for the flowers from the church, thanks. Joanna W. - A very special thank you for all the little (& big) ways you have been helping to lift the dark clouds of the past few weeks. You are truly a gift of friendship to our family." Monica, Jordan, Jordo, & Nick Keough The Trunk - from Monica It was time to bring it up from the basement. As it was opened, the five siblings of Deloris Horn gasped at what they saw. When we were younger, we were allowed a glimpse once and a while in "the trunk". We knew of "Ruth's shoe". The shoe my dad's sister was wearing when she drowned at the age of 3. We knew of various "Korean memorabilia" that dad brought home from the service. But as we were allowed to dig deeper, with older eyes, we discovered not only Ruth's shoe, but a small pair of cowboy boots, that all five of us wore at one time or another. And not only did we discover a picture of dad's sister wearing the shoes, but also a picture of me, in the cowboy boots, and many other pictures and precious momentos of a lifetime. Mom had only been dead 24 hours, but her memory was made very much alive, as we discovered more about her than we ever knew. Her senior picture, and the dress she was wearing in her senior picture, were among the many items in the "old trunk" which we had never seen before. I write this story because it could be your story. You see, there were many items in the trunk which were labeled, such as "Monica's first paper from the 3rd grade". Yet there were also many items in the trunk which weren't labeled, a variety of silver spoons, books, and various other items that my dad has not a clue of their story. A camera with film in it. We developed the film and it shows a family none of us recognize. I also write this story because maybe you have a trunk put away somewhere. What a thrill we had looking at all the items, but it would have been a much greater thrill if mom could have been there to narrate. Don't miss your opportunity to peek in "the trunk" you may have in your basement. Continue Praying For... don't forget the goals!!! Daily Bible Reading & Prayer! 201 in 2001! 52 baptisms in 2001! 52 restored families in 2001! Increased attendance and participation! No, I'm not going to give it up. I still believe that this church is on the threshold of an awesome year for the Lord. Some of you are saying, " Those goals are unrealistic. We can never do it."God can!! Although I feel it is possible for us to do it ourselves, I admit that it is unlikely that we will. So, we need a miracle. That's God's specialty. Will you help me pray that this year God will work a miracle through us? And then will you allow yourself to become dependant on him so that he can use you to make that miracle? He can't do it as long as we are independantly self-sufficient. It's okay to ask God to help us with everything we do, but if we only ask him to help us with the things we can do ourselves, our faith remains small and we really don't need a miracle. Look at the list of those in Hebrews 11 who were commended for their faith. They did impossible things....with God's help. No, God did impossible things through them....because they believed he could, and would. I believe he still can...and will....in us....here...this year. Shall we pray? WON BY ONE in 2001!
