January 7, 2001 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner Last week, some ambitious goals were set before us to encourage us to reach out and realize our potential as a church. Everything we do both as individuals and as a church needs to keep in mind our objective. It is possible to be involved in many good works and still not be accomplishing the one thing that Jesus Christ has asked us to do. After all, who has an abundance of free time to do all the things we would like. Likely, few us us possess such, so we tend to focus on the more immediate things to the neglect of the eternal ones. Paul Faulkner worded it such, "We spend so much time on the urgent that we never get around to the important." In other words, we tend to do such things as mowing the grass, doing the dishes, repairing the house, fixing the car, paying the bills, but all of a sudden we realize that we have not spent time reading the scriptures, praying, teaching our children, much less our neighbors! There is nothing wrong with the aforementioned items, but do they keep us from doing the things that God has asked us to do? With those thoughts in mind, I would like to turn our thoughts to teaching the gospel. we know full well that God has asked us in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16) to go to all nations and teach others. Is it possible that we have so many obligations and other good things that are going on in our lives, that we never get around to what God has asked us to do? What can we do to make sure that we do not fall into a syndrome of busyness that distracts us from our real mission? I would like to venture some ideas for you to consider. First of all, get up every day and ask yourself, what it is that God wants me to do today? We need to keep the main thing the main thing. Second, if we are going to lead others to Christ, go soul-winning on purpose. Very few good things happen accidentally. I have set some personal goals for leading others to Christ. I would like to encourage you to do the same. As a church, we would like to see 52 souls immersed into Christ. I would like to think that we have shown too little faith. That is an average for the congregation of only one per week. If each Christian at Dalton were to teach just one person this year, then we could easily double the size of this local body. I realize that most everyone has little available time, but consider this. Is what I am doing what God really wants me to do? Generally speaking, we find the time to do the things that we really want to do. We simply make a way. Make a way into your schedule to share the greatest message in the world with some of your friends. Do it on purpose. Don't just wait until the timing is just right. God will bless you and help you. Leading others to Christ is not something that you have to do all by yourself. Not everyone is a gifted teacher, but everyone can reach someone. You may be able to bring others to capable teachers. You may wish to bring them to one of our Bible Study Groups. The small group setting is not as formal and provides an opportunity for others to get to know your guests as well. You may also simply start be inviting a friend to an assembly service. For the next two months, we will be focusing on Fundamentals of the Christian Faith. It would be a great way to introduce your friend to Christ. The method is not as important as the effort. God can work through my mistakes very easily. He does find it difficult to work with my not making myself available. Availability is more important than ability. Pick someone out and start praying for them to come to Christ. Be persistent. With God's help, you will succeed! HAVE A GREAT WEEK !! Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. - Daniel 12:3 SLEDDING PARTY New Year's Day - It was GREAT!! The sled run at the Schilds property, and the fellowship we all enjoyed made for a wonderful New Year's Day. I can't wait to get some of the pictures back. But we missed the prize winning picture of Dave Shaner flying down the hill on a "runner sled"colliding with a tube left on the sled run. It flipped up in the air and landed perfectly over his head as he glidded on down to the bottom of the hill wearing his big black collar. There were thrills and spills aplenty for all. Todd & Carol wanted to say, "Thank You" to all the 50 or 60 of us who came and shared the day with them. And all of us want to let them know, as well, how much we appreciated their making such a great day possible. If you missed it, I think you'll have another opportunity soon. Be watching for more information soon.

Mike's Memos It's Check-up Time So, now we've used up one week of the New Year already! How are we doing with our goals? Have we gotten into the daily Bible reading and praying habit? Those are not so tough. I'll bet nearly everybody is doing okay with those so far. What about our personal & correspondence Bible Studies? Don't procrastinate. That's one of Satan's favorite tools. If we're going to win 201 in 2001, we can't wait to get started. The same is true with restoring families. Who have you called / visited, to encourage them to return to their first love? We have some new information on our plans for a Medical Missions trip to Guyana, and others here have expressed interest. If you'd like to participate, talk to me. Yes, we'll have to keep checking up on one another. Will somebody ask me real often, "Mike, how are you doing with our goals?" Senior Boys' Retreat Our Senior High Boys have been at Camp Princes' Pine this weekend for a time of renewal, fellowship, service, and growth. We will worship together there Sunday Morning, and be back in time for Bible Study Groups and LTC in the PM. Winterfest 2001 "Is That Your Final Answer?" Next weekend a large group of our teens will be at the Northside Youth Rally in Spokane. We will attend a series of eight classes, and enjoy sessions of singing and reflection. It will be a time of spiritual growth as well as fellowship with other area Christian teens. I hope all parents will encourage their teens to attend. WE MUST SEND IN OUR REGISTRATIONS TODAY!
Calendar Of Events Jan 7 - CCS Special Contribution
Every day..... I will read my Bible and pray!
CCS Corner Become as Little Children God never calls us to do anything without faithfully keeping His word and enabling us to do it. (I. Thes. 5:24) When the children of Israel reached the Red Sea, they might have concluded that God had abandoned His promise to them. Yet, God proved then, as He has ever since, that He is absolutely faithful to every word He speaks to His children. I believe God has called many of His to be a part of this mission... "Coeur d'Alene Christian School". I also believe God will see us through any "Red Sea" experience we may encounter. He has been faithful in all. Time after time He has provided, in even... what appears to be the smallest of details...He cares.... I am encouraged when I look into the eyes of the little ones here and when I hear their simple, trusting words of faith. Each day I see them growing in joy, as they fill their hears with God's word and pray. Chapel Dialogue: January 3, 2001 Mr. D.: "Why is Daniel a good leader?"
