Stuff Dave Shaner

Won by One in 2001! We are about to embark on a new millennium. Technically, the year 2000 was the end of the last millennium. Have you set some personal goals for how God will be able to use you this year? If not, I would like to encourage you to do so. Seek to grow in a personal relationship with God. Commit yourself to a reading of the entire Bible at least once. Make prayer a regular daily habit. Make your church attendance as regular as possible. Be involved in helping the church to grow and mature. You may also choose many other worthy causes that involve the community. There are many good works that we all need to be involved in as individuals, but remember the church is the only agency on earth that He has appointed to carry his message - Ephesians 3:10.

As a church, we always need to be thinking ahead. We need to plan wisely, yet live one day at a time. Goals, whether it be individually or collectively, need to be attainable. But we also need to be challenged. God has asked us to do a job. He would never ask us to do something that we are not capable of doing. Whatever he asks us to do, He gives us the grace and ability to accomplish it. Marvin Phillips once said, "he who aims at nothing hits it with amazing accuracy." What are we aiming for and how will we know if we have achieved it? Numbers do not give us a full indication of the measure of the success of a church. At the same time, they do mean something. Acts 9:31 records that "the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord. Acts 11:26 records that "great numbers of people" were taught about the Lord. Acts 16:5 says "the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers." Just because there is more to church growth than numbers does not mean that we should not consider the numbers. They are a reflection of something that we are or are not doing. With that in mind, I would like to suggest that we set as a goal to disciple and baptize at least 52 people this year. We would also like to set as a goal to increase our attendance by 201. How are we going to accomplish this? People have to be won to the Lord one at a time. We would like to encourage you to make it your personal goal to lead at least one person to Christ. You may do the teaching yourself or you may bring them to someone who can. With this in mind, we will be having a series called fundamentals of the Christian Faith over the next 2 months. This would be a great opportunity for you to invite one of your friends to come to church with you. Also if we simply commit to prayer and seek out those who are no longer attending the Lord's assembly services, I am confident that we could increase our numbers by 201 over what we have averaged this last year. It is very encouraging to see more and more numbers of people coming to the Lord. As we bring more to Christ, you, personally, will be strengthened in the faith. Let's all join hands together and build each other up.

There have been others who have helped in the office over the last few months that did not get mentioned in last week's Short Stuff. Donna Long and Helen Rouse have been a tremendous help in answering phones and with helping with many of the details here. Earlene Reeves also helps in many ways nearly every day that few notice. It would be if she didn't do them. We appreciate them so much. Thank You.

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR !

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain

- Philippians 1:21

Going and Growing

New Years Eve is the date.

So make your plans, it's not too late.

To the Bunco winner a prize will be.

So you'll just have to come and see.

There is a prize for the loser too,

So if you come it could be you.

There will be games for big and small,

I'll make sure there's room for all.

At midnight the balloons will drop.

So please be there to make them pop.

There will be food, games, fellowship, and some great singing & praying tonight. This particular get together happens only once a year. The best way to bring in the New Year is to be able to spend it with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Bring finger food and snacks. It starts at 7 p.m. Come whenever you want, but if you want to play Bunco, it will start at 8 p.m. Please contact Ken Neubauer if you have any questions (687-5571).

SLEDDING PARTY

New Year's Day

Let's have some fun!! All who can, come to Todd & Carol Schild's property at Careywood where they have their workshop (maps are on the kiosk in the foyer) for a sledding party tomorrow anytime from 11 am to 3 pm. There will be coffee, hot chocolate and a big bonfire, so bring some hot dogs to roast, or a snack, and spend the day. I think Carol is even going to have a crock pot full of black-eyed peas for good luck in the New Year. Of course, only us Southern folk know what that's all about.

Todd has been building some sled runs to rival the Olympics, so bring your sleds and tubes(the best!) and "crash helmets", and be ready for some great fun. (There might be a place for snowboards.) Somebody bring a camera. There's sure to be some award-winning pictures! Car pooling would be a good idea.

Good News!

Marcus Mood was baptized last Sunday December 24. Marcus is the son of Mark & Mandy Mood. Who was smiling the most afterward. Marcus or Mark?! It was likely the angles in heaven. Be sure to welcome Marcus into the family of God.

Bible Study Groups

There will be no Bible Study groups meeting tonight. Instead, there will be a New Year's Eve party at the Building. ALL ARE INVITED!

New Directories

Pictures for the new directory will be taken this week, January 4-6. If you have not made arrangements to have your picture taken, please contact Warren or Lynn Brown at 772-9556.

Senior Boys
Winter Work retreat

Next weekend, January 6-8, our 9th - 12th grade guys will be going to Camp Prince's Pine. We will have lots of fun in the snow, build a sled run for our All Teens Winter Retreat in February, do some camp repair / maintenance work, and practice some wilderness survival techniques with a visiting teacher. I hope all our senior guys will be able to go.

Need Snow Shoveling? Who ya gonna call? Some of our LTC Teens are beginning to raise funds for the trip to Phoenix in the spring. If you'd like to help and would like your snow shoveled, call one of the LTC leaders, or the ch4urch office to schedule. Any donation will be appreciated and applied to the air fare for those doing the work.

I HEARD THE OLD YEAR TALKING......

I heard the old year talking, and he seemed to say to me,
"I am what men have made me--not what I hoped to be.
I did not bring the failures; my days were bright & new,
I was the time allotted--the work was man's to do.
"I am what others made me; I had no will or choice;
Through all the days of trial, I was given not a voice.
If victory came, man earned it; his was the faith &
power.

If sorrow came, God sent it; I furnished but the hour.
"I came here empty-handed--a year that was to be,
And what I am in passing, mankind has made of me;
I am their petty failures, their glory, their success;
I am their souls' advancement, their shame, and
happiness.

"I was not born in evil or governed by the stars,
I brought to some high honors, to others ugly scars;
Only my days were numbered; I was the time for toil,
And each has reaped the harvest, as he has tilled the soil.
I am what men have made me--not what I hoped to be,
And so shall be the New Year which soon shall follow
me;

Our days are good or evil, as each man serves & strives,
For years are but the records on which men write their
lives.

Worship and Obedience

- Dan Dupey

Moses was dead! The new generation of Israelites under Joshua crossed the Jordan River. They entered the land that God had promised to Abraham. There were years of fighting ahead for Israel. But God was with them, and His presence in their lives meant victory.

God kept His promise to fight for the Israelites when they obeyed him. God gave the obedient generation homes and land in the territory He had promised to Abraham's children.

God blesses those who promise to worship and obey Him! As we approach a new year our focus should continue to be on obedience, not simply worship. At Coeur d'Alene Christian School; we strive each day to teach the importance of "obedience". (Ex: student respect and compassion to each other, to their teacher, to their parents, and their friends, etc) It is exciting to be involved with the molding and developing of young minds! What a beautiful foundation we are building! This is ONLY because of Christ. Our students will be equipped and ready as they worship and obey!

Special Contribution:

The staff and school board of CCS appreciate all the involvement and encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We benefit MUCH from all of you. This is the 21st year of the Christian School mission. The enrollment is down considerably this year. Our staff has been reduced this year, and we have added a couple of additional fundraisers. We are still in need of about $10,000.00 A special contribution time has been set aside on Jan 7th for the Christian School. If you can contribute to this great cause, let one of the board members know or simply participate on Jan 7th! This is still a great time to receive a tax deduction for your contribution! We are always thankful for the many helpers and volunteers at CCS! We appreciate your many encouraging words! We thank all of our volunteers and helpers for the year 2000! Please contact us if you can donate any time or work with our mission at the Christian school.

PANTRY

The WIN ministry is excited! We thank Kim Frisk and all her efforts for helping us to restock our pantry. She was able to secure donations that have given us a full pantry so we will be able to better serve those in need!

MISSING VIDEOS

If you have videos from the video library please bring them in. We have SEVERAL missing that were not checked out. We need them all returned so an inventory can be done.
