November 5th, 2000 Stuff Dave Shaner Our missions seminar with
Roger and Martha Dickson is only 2 weeks away. Roger and Martha are
currently residing as missionaries in South Africa. They are teaching
students throughout the world through their International Bible School.
Sometimes, it is easy to think that the churches in the United States are
the ones that send out missionaries to the rest of the world. But
it is starting to happen throughout the rest of the world as well.
Last week we reported that the Christian Chronicle said that the center
of Christianity has now shifted to Africa. As I ponder the spiritual
direction that our country has taken over the last few years, could it
be that one day, Africa will be sending missionaries to the United States?
The Hindus and Moslems have already done this and represent some of the
larger growing faiths in our country. We need to be aware and active
wherever the Lord is leading us in the area of missions. But let's
never forget the mission field we have right here at our own back door.
Paul said, "I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that
you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ."
- Philemon 6. Roger will be helping us learn to share our faith wherever
we are. As we share our faith with others, we develop more understanding,
ourselves, about Jesus Christ. Be sure to make your plans to be here
for all 3 days, Sunday through Tuesday evenings, November 19-21.
Our regularly scheduled classes on Wednesday night of that week will not
be meeting to encourage participation in the seminar. This also gives
you the night before Thanksgiving off so you can prepare for the holiday.
Have a Great Week!! "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" - Isaiah 6:8 Missions Day Workshop November 19-21 Independent, but dependent Do we have a contradiction of terms for this mission article? I think not. Those mission worker families we support are away from us, working independently for the Lord day by day. Every mission family goes through times of trial. Yet, every missionary has a sense of quest, a drive for the vision of victory for the Lord. It is a relentless challenge each day in the mission field to practice 2 Corinthians 5:7, "We live by faith, not by sight". Missionary families are dependent upon contributing and supporting congregations in many ways. Of course the first item that usually comes to mind is that of funds - funds to support the person; funds for aids to the work, such as the tapes provided to Ralph Crump for the Nigerian preacher training school; and our dollars earmarked for special needs. An example this year was the Barnaul, Siberia village outreach. Equally important are the prayers we offer for specific individuals and work. Several are prayer warriors for the Togo work, praying the Kabiye people are receptive and praying for David and Becky to be effective seed planters of God's word. Yet, there are other small acts of faith and kindness that make large impacts upon family and ministry. Those who remember birthdays and holidays with cards, send e-mails and letters of encouragement, give occasional gifts without being asked, or fill in so the preacher can get away,s can be sure these acts do not go unnoticed. Ric Dukes is so appreciative of those who fill in for him as well as those who visit the Bonners congregation. Dr. Roger Dickson and Martha, while here for our coming meeting, will share insights of missions. Here is a Kansas farm couple who caught the missionary vision. They have lived and worked in Brazil, Puerto Rico and many islands in the Caribbean and now in South Africa. Brother Dickson is a very talented man evidenced by years as a missionary, writer and teacher. Currently, as Director of The International School of Biblical Studies, hundreds are taught the truth and prepared to serve the Lord through his courses, journals and seminars. The choice of being here every session is an "independent" decision. But, the spiritual strength of our missions outreach is "dependent" on each of us catching the vision.

Magi Project....a great success! Thanks to all who contributed to the success of this project. We filled and mailed 40 boxes from the church plus 10 from CCS to help make Christmas special for some less fortunate in other parts of the world. You are tbe commended.
Mike's Memos Leadership Training for Christ, for our third through twelfth grade kids, is well under way. We have twenty-eight students and twelve adult mentors working in this special program. We are developing skills in twenty different areas including: Bible Reading, Puppetry, Song Leading, Speech, Writing Christian Poetry and Prose, Bible Class Teaching, Drama, and others. We are very proud of this excellent program, and all those involved. Another excellent teen activity is our TNT (Thursday Night for Teens) which is a special night for singing praise to God and discussing subjects relating to our spiritual growth. This is hosted every other week in the Reeves' home, and on alternate Thursdays in Teens' or others' homes. We'd love to have it hosted by some of our Senior Saints. Speaking of Senior Saints, we enjoyed hosting many of you at our fourth annual Keenage Banquet. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and treat you special, which made us feel special as well. Your encouragement and Christian examples provide anchors for our lives as we grow up in Him. The Youth Group is indebted once again to Scott & Karmen Rouse, and Paula Jaynes for preparing a wonderful meal of unusual Mediterranean Cuisine. We thank you for your tireless efforts, and your beautiful Christ-like spirits. The Youth Group will be going to "The Rouse House" November 17-19 for our annual "Come Before Winter" retreat. Teens, don't miss this. Clear your calendar, invite a friend, and pack your bag. This is always a special spiritual weekend.
CCS Corner Making the Most of the TIME Dan Dupey Mike Reeves talked to us about those "special moments" last week and what we do with our time. The struggle for most of us is finding a proper balance in our lives between God's desire for his people that they set aside some time for rest, spiritual nourishment, and worship and Paul's encouragement to "make the most of the time." - Ephesians 5:16 We can all share experiences where we wish we acted more quickly to do something kind for a friend or family, to speak a cheerful word to someone who desperately needed it, to share a good idea when it might have made a difference, to stand up and be counted for something that was important to us. We recognize that time is a precious gift from GOD. It is NOT to be squandered or wasted. As we chart our course into the 21st century here at Coeur d'Alene Christian School, there are many opportunities coming to us! Most of them have not revealed themselves yet. Many will be beyond our imagination. One thing we can be sure of, if we are good stewards of the blessings that God gives us, is that He will continue to bless us in all aspects of our lives! Let's remember to make the MOST of our time in ALL aspects of our life. We need to be giving 100% of our time to God regardless of what we are doing with our lives. CCS Calendar * 11-9/10 NO SCHOOL

in a weekly feast of fellowship and song beginning Friday night, Nov. 10th

of God's Spirit as we praise Him. This is an opportunity to share your
talent, or learn a new one, and to help improve our congregational
singing. The first one will be at the Bruner's at 941 Spruce Ct.
Plan to come, and bring some goodies to share. We hope many of you will
want to host this special activity. To find out where the singing is each
week, or to sign up to be a host, talk to John Erwin, Mike Reeves, or call

WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA. Zig Ziglar Several years ago the people listen in Who's Who in America were analyzed. Researchers discovered that it took 25,000 laboring families to produce 1 child who would be listed in Who's Who. It required 10,000 families in which the father was a skilled craftsman, 6,00 Baptist preachers, 5,000 lawyers, 5,000 Presbyterian preachers, 2,500 dentist, and 1,200 Episcopalian priests to produce someone who's listed in Who's Who. However, every 7 Christian missionary families produced a member of Who's Who. I can only speculate on the reasons for the remarkable difference. Surely most of the preachers from the various denominations were men and women of faith, but I believe the missionaries, in most cases, demonstrated a stronger commitment. Their example demonstrated their faith and courage to their children. Also, they probably did not have many things to give to their children, but the mother and father, with fewer distractions such as daily newspapers and television, were probably spending an unusual amount of time with them. The kids had a day-to-day example and a chance to study what real success was all about. Needless to say, the parents were teaching and preaching the Bible every day and felt a unique relationship with God through the person of Jesus Christ. Undoubtedly the role modeling and demonstration of their faith played a significant part in the development of the children. All of us have heard that we teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are, which is exactly what God tells us in Luke 6:40 (NKJV): "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher." My mother repeatedly said to me as a young father, "Son, your children pay more attention to what you do than to what you say." In many cases, the missionary family had to learn to communicate in a different language from their native language and get along with people of different cultures, which brought about a maturing of the youngsters. Then, when the kids returned to America to live, they had a chance to view the difference in the opportunities in America, and they capitalized on those opportunities. The bottom line from Zig:
God's Word is an enemy for depression, an escape from temptation, the promise
of the future, as well as a guide, hope and inspiration for now and always.
