October 15th, 2000 Short By Stuff Dave Shaner There have been an increasing number of guests who have joined us for our Sunday assembly worship times. If you are a guest reading this article, we appreciate your presence and desire to be drawn closer to God. The church must continually remind itself, ourselves, of who we are and what we stand for. We live in a world where church is seen as something that is another of the long list of commodities to buy at the supermarket. Each group is vying for your attention, with each claiming to be the best among many. The variety of churches was not something that first century Christians had their choice of. When one is looking for a church, the criteria is usually one that fits their individual needs, agrees with them theologically, and one which makes them feel good. On the surface, this sounds like a good idea and, if I were searching, would likely do the same thing. When Jesus prayed for unity among his believers, he was not asking for more choices. The church belongs to the Lord and to nobody else. He, himself, has set the parameters and the terms of entrance. The question is, "Can I be a member of the body that he is the head of?" Most modern churches were started as a result of man's doings, not those of Jesus Christ. The only way to wade through the jungle of religious thought is to bypass it altogether and go back to the original source. Over time, the rivers have been muddied with no clear path to follow. The scriptures is one thing that we can all unite around. Obviously, there are going to be a great deal of disagreements even over the Bible, but it is the source that has not been muddied. Reading the original source is indeed a drink of pure water. It is not the source of life but leads us to the source, which is Jesus Christ. They are able to make us wise unto salvation - II Timothy 3:15-17. True undenominational Christianity, both individually and congregationally seeks to simply pick up God's Word and use it as their guide. The Lord's church is not governed by a man-made hierarchy, man's conventions, or any other wisdom from man. Wisdom from above comes from a relationship with God as you study his instructions provided in the scriptures. Have a Great Week!! Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. II Corinthians
9:6-7
Missions Day PRAYERS, PLEDGES & PARTICIPATION Each Mission Sunday is a great occasion for Dalton Gardens worshipers. We can look forward to this November when we will be especially aware of missions. Brothers and sisters joining together for a stronger commitment, giving one another encouragement, and looking to the future for doing the Lord's work well. Now isn't too soon to prepare our hearts for Missions Sunday of November 19th and the meeting evenings of Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday. Great happenings occur where there is prayer. We need the Lord to guide our vision on how to continue reaching out to souls and how we can encourage and support those workers in mission locations. Pray by name for Jim & Diane Rude family in Astoria, OR; Ric and Cathy Dukes laboring in Bonners Ferry; Clifford and Donna Utter at Priest River; Jerry and Pam Sisemore family in Barnaul, Siberia; Ralph and Anna Crump in Nigeria, Africa; David and Becky Reeves family in Togo, Africa and the World Bible School work being conducted by Ron and Margie Dupey. Paul commended the Corinthians (2 Cor 9:2-5) for their zeal of a promised "bountiful gift". This was a pledge for a purpose. "Missions Sunday" is a time to energize ourselves and one another by our giving for the following year, funds earmarked to missions. This can be done either as a contribution to the special collection through cash or pledge forms indicating giving to missions in the months to follow. Every family is asked to give prayerful consideration to giving for missions, year 2001. Participation is the act of sharing and taking part. It will be a benefit to each one to involve them-selves in the meeting Sunday evening through Tuesday ( Nov 19 -21 ) And, it will be an encouragement to the speaker. The topics are: " Resurrecting Men out of Graveyards", "Understanding our Spiritual Bankruptcy" & "Understanding the Soil or Understanding Jesus' Last Words".

The magi project: Interested in making a child's Christmas dream come true? The Women's ministry is making boxes to be sent to less fortunate children throughout the world. We could use everyone's help. All it takes is a shoe box full of age specific toys, books, hygiene items or school supplies plus a $5.00 check for shipping costs. You can fill a box on your own or bring the supplies and we will put them together for you. Financial support would also be welcome; we will need $5.00 for each box sent. SUGGESTED SUPPLIES FOR BOXES: Toys: small toys, stuffed animals, balls, cars, dolls, yo-yo's, harmonicas, slinkies, etc. (Please keep safety in mind) School Supplies: notebooks, paper, coloring books, calculators, rulers, gluesticks, crayons, pens, pencils, sharpeners, etc. Picture Books: Bible picture books, Christmas story books, etc. Health/Hygiene Items: Soap, combs, brushes, dental products, bandaids, washcloths, barrettes, etc. Clothes: Due to size limitations, clothing gifts should consist of small t-shirts, underwear, a pair of socks or a baseball cap. Do not include: toy guns, knives, war-related items, chocolate, perishable items, used items, medicines of any kind, or breakable items. If you would like to put together a box on your own then you will need to pick up a brochure and mailing label on the kiosk. All boxes and supplies should be turned in no later than October 25th. If you would like to help or have any questions, please ask Alyssa Frahm.
Mike's Memos WHAT IS SIN? Inactivity is sin....now that's a scary thought! But we know that James 4:17 equates sin with our failure to act upon what we know is right, and for most of us, that's a lot harder to deal with than the temptations to indulge sinful passions. The seriousness of the sin of omission is clearly taught by Jesus himself. In his parables that deal with the end and with judgment, what do you suppose are the sins that condemn? Adultry? Impurity? Idolatry? No, in every case the sin is an omitted good. In Luke 12, The Rich Fool stood condemned because he was "not rich toward God." He didn't do any harm. He just didn't do anyone any good. His sin was one of omission. In Luke 13 the fig tree was ordered destroyed because it had borne no fruit. In Luke 16 The Rich Man's sins are not cited, he just didn't feed the beggar. He failed to do the good he could have done. In both the parables of the talents and the pounds in Mt. 25 & Lk.19, the unprofitable servant was not condemned for sins committed, but for failing to utilize his talents. In the last judgment scene of Matthew 25, the goats are separated from the sheep and placed on the left hand in condemnation for what they didn't do! The King said, " I was hungry and you gave me no food (omission), thirsty and you gave me no drink (omission), a stranger and you didn't welcome me (omission), naked and you didn't clothe me (omission), sick and in prison and you didn't visit me (once again omission). Yes James, "...faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." It is only as our lives are filled with positive goodness that sin is really eliminated. To cease from destructive sins and habits is good, but according to Lk.11:24-26, it creates a vacuum which invites multiplied evil. What are you doing for heaven's sake? Interested crafters please contact Marci at 772-7118 (daytime) or 762-4084 (evening).
CCS Corner Sharing the Word This year Kathy Morse and myself (Teri Dupey) are taking turns teaching the Kindergarten through second grade classes about JESUS. We want them to grow like Jesus did. How are they growing? They read God's word. They pray. They are learning to do what is right in God's sight. They want their Father to guide their steps. They are learning thankfulness, forgiveness, and patience. They sing praises, speak praises, and even draw and act praises to the Lord. And, of course, they know that Jesus liked to play in and explore God's creation. They want to be like Jesus. Along the way they will learn about the culture of the time. It is a joy to teach the children about Jesus.
A BIG THANK YOU!! I want to thank everyone who recently donated to the soup kitchen; it was so needed! There are a lot of people who give in so many ways. I am also grateful for all the prayers and people's time! I would like to mention some of those who truly deserve recognition, but note that there are many names I don't even know! Jim and Jan Almond, The Frahms, Mike and Earlene, Al and Anita, Jerry Riggs, the Rudes. Thank you all for coming! To all the people who help: Monica, Carly, Angie, Johnni Wuest, Teresa Hartofilax, Vera, Teen, Claudia (for her wonderful cakes) and of course Jenny and Bob Brown, Joanna Wuest, Margie Waddell, Judie Sanborn and Kathy Morse .....thank you for all you do! I would just like to remind everyone that the funds for the kitchen and food donations is ongoing. We serve approximately 50-60 people a week. It gets costly and we go through funds and food quickly! All the recent donations helped solve our immediate needs, but we still ask for your continuing support! With Thanksgiving coming up we are requesting a couple of big turkeys. We would also appreciate any meat - chicken, hamburger or round steak. Meat is a tremendous expense, and we go through 20-30 pounds each week! We also use mushroom soup, beef broth, stewed tomatoes and tomato sauce by the gallons! Our pantry is pretty bare. Can you help? We will accept and use anything. Last of all, but certainly just as important, is our need for volunteers. We are short-handed between 12 and 3pm each Wednesday. If anyone has some extra time, we can use you! We also need someone to pick up produce once a week on Tuesdays between 2 and 4. Are there any teens interested? Certainly you don't have to be a teenager, it's just a thought! Thank you again for your time, prayers and donations! We couldn't do it without you! - Kim Frisk & Crew
Russian Wedding Many will recall Dima, the young man missionary Jerry Sisemore had with him visiting America from Barnaul, Siberia. Dima married Natasha on September 29th. Pictures and a description of the event is in the foyer, or on our website: http://www.dgchurch.org/siberia.html You may e-mail personal congratulations to Dima and Natasha at: barmaley@ab.ru Reading the complete report from Jerry, Pam and Levi Sisemore will give you a feeling and some understanding for the work being done. Also, you can enjoy the story of the produce harvest and have insight to the lives of those with which the Sisemore work. Food certainly isn't just a trip to the local supermarket.
