Short  By

Stuff  Dave Shaner

The church's annual encampment last weekend at Farragut State Park was fantastic. The attendance was up and wonderful Christian fellowship took place. Whether it was singing some devotional songs or hymns, roasting marshmallows, pitching horseshoes, or playing games, all were drawn closer to the Lord and to each other. Some came out just for Sunday morning worship services only to go home and get their tent to finish out the weekend there. Overall, I was convinced that we simply need to spend more time together enjoying each other's fellowship. A special thank you needs to be extended to Ken & Bobbie Neubauer for making things happen over the weekend. Ken "prophesied" that if we camped, it will rain. It did and the firefighters were blessed.

Most of you probably know by now that our brother, John Wilhoite passed away last Thursday. Despite the sadness of death, it is very gratifying to know that he had recently been baptized and had his sins washed away. He now is enjoying heaven waiting for the rest of us to join him. It is often very difficult for older folks to change. "We" get set in our ways, and don't like anybody suggesting otherwise. It is amazing how much so many people both young and old will sink in their heels when confronted with what can make them eternally blessed. Self-will and pride are among our biggest obstacles to overcome. It takes courage to say "no" to self and "yes" to God. It is easy to do once we get over ourselves. John Wilhoite was eager to let go of self and follow God. Let's all do the same.

Even though, we have about 2 weeks left in summer, many things should start to settle down. Let's commit ourselves to regular attendance at Bible classes and the assembly, to active participation in the church, to leading the lost to Christ, and to consistent financial giving. I am always reminded of Jeremiah 8:20-22 which states, "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved." Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? The summer may be over, but have people been led to the great physician? We have a balm to cure us of all our sins. His name is Jesus. Keep him at the forefront of all that you do. Have a Great Week!!

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

2 Corinthians 3, 4

Kudos To Ken & Bobbie!

A great big THANK YOU to Ken and Bobbie Neubauer for doing such a great job helping us campers to feel welcome at Farragut last weekend! If you have never warmed up by a "propane' campfire, you truly missed out on one of life's greatest blessings! Also, having a huge pot of coffee ready every morning hit the spot, as well as the nightly singing around the "fire". Thank you both for serving God by serving us.

Mike's Memos

LTC 2001 !!!!!

It's time!! This Sunday, September 10th, is LTC awareness/ promotion day, and then registration is next Sunday, the 17th. I'm excited!!! I wish we could have a box full of the great feelings we had at the LTC convention in Phoenix last April to just pour all over all of us right now. Do you remember how much fun we had, how good we felt about our accomplishments and what we had learned, and how excited we were from sharing all that together with 400 others? It was awesome!

Every year I'm encouraged by the leadership growth, and the skills development I see in our kids as we work through the LTC events toward the Phoenix convention. LTC is the backbone of our youth program here at Dalton Gardens. It builds spiritual leadership, character, and commitment beginning at the third grade through high school. Our elders are 100% supportive of this program, and want to encourage every eligible student to participate. I too, as your youth minister, want you to recognize the value of this excellent program to your spiritual development, and ask you to come next Sunday evening from 5:30-7:00 prepared to register in a good number of the pre-convention and convention events, and to begin the Bible Bowl study of the exciting book of Revelation. This meeting is for the prospective LTC kidsand their parents.

Be considering which of the following events you'd like to participate in this year: (those with an * are required of everyone)

Bible Bowl* Chorus
Bible Class Teaching Bulletin Board

LTC will meet each Sunday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm from Sept. 17 - April 15. We have some exciting changes in the basic teaching structure for this year. We look forward to sharing that on registration night. See you then.

Church, please personally encourage all our kids as they commit to another year of in-depth Bible study, and work on their leadership skills. Your support and encouragement is so important to our LTC program. Thanks for all you do.

CCS Corner

"We Are Ready To Teach!"

The time to get excited about the new year has long past. We are ready to teach! Everything is clean from top to bottom. The rooms have been cleaned and painted, the new carpet is in, the old has been cleaned, and the books have arrived! Parents are calling, teachers are preparing and students are anxious!

Motivating students begins with a motivated teacher. The teacher's knowledge and methods are secondary to what our teachers believe. We take the attitude that "Each of us makes a difference"! Eph 4:1 We are to walk "worthy". We each have a special gift and ability.....we want to continue to use this gift that God has given us! I Cor 12. We need to remember the famous quote "Kids don't care how much you now until they know how much you care!" Where ever we teach this principle is very effective. School is where everybody is somebody! A student will not necessarily remember what you taught them, but how you treated them! We are ready to teach!

Grandparent's Day

Grandparent's Day was a great success thanks to all who visited in chapel last Friday. We had a great turnout! Thank you!

"T-Shirt Sale"

CCS will be ordering new t-shirts with bright pictures and encouraging messages printed on them. We would like to make these available for others to purchase as well, so please check your mailbox for an order form. If you need a better look, the color pictures of the designs are on the CCS office door. Thank you again for your continued support of Christian education and the Coeur d'Alene Christian School.
