August 6th, 2000 SHORT By STAFFED Monica SIGNS SEEN ON CHURCH PROPERTY: "No God -- No Peace. Know God -- Know Peace." "Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!" "Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins." "Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!" An ad for a church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets." When the restaurant next to the church put out a big sign that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too." "Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons -- come hear one!" "People are like tea bags -- you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are." "God so loved the world that He did not send a committee." "Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush!" "When down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out all right." "Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday." "How will you spend eternity -- Smoking or Non-smoking?" "Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world." "If you're headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns." "This is a
ch_ _ch. What is missing?" ---------> (U R)

A video lesson is presented each week in class and each participant receives a workbook and a set of 12 audiotapes. Going & GrowinG I never get tired of remembering Jesus. He is always near. My heart is full of thanksgiving and joy. I didn't mess up all day or all week or all month. I wish this were true! I pray each morning for a day that I do everything right. That from sunrise to sunset, I please Him in work and deed. "Show me the most excellent way Lord." "Let me love as you love." My prayers are sincere, my intentions are honest. But then it happens. I don't even see it coming. I do or say something that He wouldn't do or say. I forgot for a moment where I'm at and who I'm with. Love never fails, but I do. Love is patient, but I'm not. Love is not proud, but I am. I don't love enough. It's hard to love everyone all the time. But He does. Another day, another prayer. Maybe tomorrow I'll do everything right! As for God, his way is perfect. The word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:30
This is my comfort. My God is perfect, and He loves me in my imperfection. Because of the mercy He shows and the grace He gives, I can live within His forgiveness. That's what being in Christ is about. That and a thousand other blessings that give us peace and hope. Were you perfect last week, or like me, did you do or say something He wouldn't do or say? Be at peace. Remember your hope. You are forgiven. You are in Christ! Now for the challenge. I promise not to wait until you're perfect to love you. And it sure would make it easier if you didn't wait until I'm perfect to love me back. My prayer today is that we all do everything right, and just love each other. Your brother, Larry F.

A Moment Of Humor "A joyful heart makes a cheerful face" Proverbs 15:13 A Prayer With Teeth In It The old evangelist Bud Robinson is reported to have prayed the following prayer each day: "O Lord, give me a backbone as big as a saw log and ribs like the sleepers under the church floor. Put iron shoes on my feet and galvanized breeches on my body. Give me a rhinoceros hide for skin, and hang up a wagon load of determination in the gable-end of my soul. Help me to sign the contract to fight the devil as long as I've got a tooth - and then gum him until I die." Taken from Church Bulletin Bits
