July 30th, 2000 SHORT By STAFFED Monica Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400! It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening, the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course!!!! Each of us has such a bank. It's name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow." You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today. To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics. Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time. And remember that time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called "the present"!! ~Author Unknown "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life" 1

Bike Ride This Saturday This Saturday is the mountain bike ride of the Hiawatha Trail. For those who plan on going, meet at the church building at 9:00 am and plan to return late in the afternoon. Be sure to pack a lunch, and have plenty of fluids to drink. There is either a 13 mile or a 26 mile ride to choose from. Helmets are required, and a light for your bike is recommended. If you don't have a light, make sure you have a buddy with a light as the tunnels become very dark! The cost is $6 per person to ride the trail, exact change is required. This is a beautiful ride which takes you through tunnels and over trestles. We have placed a sign up sheet at the kiosk, please indicate whether you plan to ride 13 or 26 miles. This will help greatly in the planning. Contact Scott Rouse or Jordan Keough if you have questions. Or call the office EARLY next week, and Monica can sign you up.

Phone Book Recycling Since the new phone books are out and the old ones can be tossed, please consider tossing them into the designated box in the foyer. The Children's Village is gathering old phone books as a fund raiser. Thanks for helping to contribute to this important part of our community!
"Special" Thank you A special thank you to all who were involved in our Vacation Bible School program last week! There were many people who were teaching, helping, cooking, puppeteering, goliathing, horsing around, and working in numerous other areas to insure the success of the day! Comments from families from the community were very positive, and many new friendships were formed. Your support through prayer & labor was very much appreciated!
Gone To Be With The Lord The office was made aware last week that Richard Rogers fell asleep in Jesus on July 22nd. Richard had struggled with his health for many years, and apparently went home peacefully in his sleep as the possible result of an apparent heart attack. Richard was a great preacher and had authored many books. Pray for his wife, Barbara, his four children, and eight grandchildren as they both rejoice and mourn his loss.
Guest Article One of the many blessings of working as your secretary, is that I have access to many great articles from writers world wide. Actually, if you have the internet, you have this access as well! Terry Singleton, a former preacher from Dalton Gardens, sends me his bulletin articles weekly. I received permission from him to reprint his article on faith...... Thanks Terry!
Faith Is The Victory How many times have we heard or sung "faith is the victory", yet in times of trouble we don't feel very victorious. We find ourselves questioning what we should do, knowing something must be done, but not being confident. How can faith be the victory when faith is believing what has not yet occurred? We think of victory after everything is over and finished. After you know you have won and the battle, and hold the trophy in your hand, you have victory. Faith sees beyond the present to a time that is yet to come. Faith has confidence in what will happen and knows not only the facts but acts on those facts. Faith is the assurance or confidence of what you hope. (Heb 11:1) Faith brings hope into reality. a.. Faith is a blind man whistling as he walks down the road. b.. Faith is humbling yourself before an almighty God, knowing you are completely undeserving of his justice, but confident of his grace. c.. Faith is the last peg driven in the ark on a clear sunny day. d.. Faith is Jesus giving up his life on a cross, confident God will raise him the third day. e.. Faith is feeling more pain in your soul over the idea of giving up prayer, than you would feel in your body from the bite of a hungry lion. f.. Faith is rejoicing as you stand by a casket. g.. Faith is singing of a home over there when you struggle to make the payments on a home here. h.. Faith is knowing God. i.. Faith is seeing the glory of God in a flower. j.. Faith is facing giants no matter where you find them. k.. Faith is forgiving others because you know God has forgiven you. l.. Faith is singing praise to God and not caring how your voice sounds. m.. Faith is knowing when to feast and when to fast. n.. Faith is being immersed into Christ and knowing he has taken away your sin. o.. Faith is volunteering for something you don't know how to do, but believing God will give you the ability to do what is needed. p.. Faith is Zaccheus in a Sycamore tree. q.. Faith is a blind man crying to Jesus for mercy. r.. Faith is when I cry to Jesus for mercy because of my own blindness. s.. Faith is trusting again after someone has hurt you. t.. Faith is believing again after you have felt betrayed or forsaken. u.. Faith is working hard with others, because of Jesus, with no immediate reward in mind. v.. Faith is knowing God smiles. w.. Faith is loving someone else because we are loved by God. x.. Faith is celebrating the victory before the battle has begun.
Going & Growing Hebrews 10:25 ". . . not forgetting the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." NKJV Not so long ago, I went through a time in my life where I decided to exercise my right not to attend Wednesday night and Sunday night classes. One day I realized that I was no longer growing in my Christian walk with God. I had become stagnant. I remembered the words of sister Gayle Paden. She said, "We are just like flowers and if we're not growing we are dying." Please don't just read over these words, think about them. As Gayle's words bounced around in my mind, my heart became sore. I realized my spiritual life was in jeopardy. I was dying. Thinking of my family and the awesome responsibility of my children's spiritual health, I started to make what I considered to be the appropriate changes. I needed to be a better example to my wife and my children. When I started going to Wednesday and Sunday night classes, I started growing. My prayer is that God will change my heart, so I can become a servant of Christ, and that I will use the time he has given me to glorify him, all the more as I see the work before me. I Corinthians 10:12 "Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." (NKJV) I would appreciate your prayers concerning this. He is not finished with me yet. I just want to keep growing. Let us stay in the Word and in each other's lives. Here is a short list of why you shouldn't attend: "I heard that story before." "There is nothing there for me." "Those people are spiritually dead." "I don't have time." "It's too far to drive." "It's the only time I have with my family." Some or all of these may be true, but brother, bring your family. Here is one good reason why you should go: Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NKJV) Remembering this, we are just like flowers, if we are not growing, we are dying. So, let's get Going and let's get Growing. Yours in Christ, Ken Neubauer
