SHORT   By

STUFF  DAVE SHANER

This evening, Won by One, will be giving a concert here at the church building. They are an a Capella singing group representing Pepperdine University. They will encourage you with their messages and will also be happy to assist anyone with information concerning the University. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite your friends to an evening of praise and fellowship. We are encouraging the Bible Study Groups to come to this in lieu of their regular gathering. The concert starts at 6 pm.

The Teen Honduran Mission Team will be returning on Monday, July 17. They have been teaching Vacation Bible School. Much of their work has also been working with the teenagers which number about 75. They have also been working on various building projects as well. They are enjoying themselves very much and their faith is growing as a result. Be sure to keep them in your prayers as they return home.

The devil is described in scripture as a roaring lion seeking to devour whomever he can. There have been many events over recent weeks and months, even with Christians here, that shows the reality of this statement. Some of our loved ones are in some very serious situations. In some cases, marriages are being severely tested and troubled. In other situations, loved ones are in jail. We need to spend more time in prayer and continue to show each other love and concern. In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus compares His return to a separating of the sheep and goats. Those who were taken into eternal life were those who fed the hungry, clothed the needy, looked after the sick, and visited those in prison. I would like to encourage all of God's people to do what these scriptures are encouraging us to do. Great moments of need are also great moments of opportunity for God to work a wonder in someone's life. Regard yourselves as tools in God's hands to help those who are struggling to the outlook of better days ahead. It is a great time to display Jesus to someone else.

Have a Great Week!!

"This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are; Anyone who does not do what it right is not a child of God: nor is anyone who does not love his brother." 1 John 3:10

Gone To Be With The Lord

The office was made aware last week that Jule Miller fell asleep in Jesus on July 4, following a short struggle with advanced leukemia. His funeral service was conducted on Friday, July 7, at Southeast Church of Christ in Houston. Brother Miller dedicated his life to evangelism, pioneering the use of technology among Churches of Christ decades ago with his series of visualized film strips which have been used around the world. Jule and Judy Miller had ten children, most or all adopted, who also with their own spouses are now engaged in gospel ministry worldwide.

Mike's Memos

JUST ONE LITTLE MEMBER
"Now you are the body of Christ
and individually members of it."
I Corinthians 12:27

This cleverly written piece of unknown origin illustrates the importance of each member being involved in the work of the church (1 Cor. 12:14-22).

******

"Xvxn though this kxyboard is an old modxl, it works quitx wxll xxcxpt for onx kxy. It has wishxd many timxs that it workxd pxrfxctly. It is trux that thxrx arx forty-onx kxys that do function wxll xnough, but just onx kxy not working surx makxs a diffxrxncx!

Somxtimxs a congrxgation is likx this kxyboard - not all thx mxmbxrs arx working propxrly. You may say to yoursxlf, 'Wxll, I am only onx pxrson. I won't makx or brxak a projxct.' But it doxs madx a diffxrxncx bxcausx any projxct, to bx xffxctivx, nxxds thx participation of xvxry mxmbxr.

So, thx nxxt timx you think you arx only onx pxrson and that your xfforts arx not nxxdxd, rxmxmbxr this kxyboard and say to yoursxlf, 'I am a kxy mxmbxr in thx congrxgation, and I am nxxdxd vxry much!"

******

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many,

are one body, so it is with Christ... That there may be no discord in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored,

all rejoice together.

1 Corinthians 12:12, 25-26
Taken from the West Side Vision Bulletin,
West Side Church of Christ, Russellville, AR

Not only is every member a "key" part of the Body and needed to be there and be working all the time, there is a shared pain when we miss, or do not do our part. Those of us who have been out of pocket so much lately....at camp and in Honduras, know that, even as we serve in these extended capacities, we miss you and are missed. I pray that we may always remember the needs and be true to our commitments to our church family at home.

A Moment Of Humor

"A joyful heart makes a cheerful face"
Proverbs 15:13

~ A Sunday School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A small child replied: "They couldn't get a baby-sitter."

~A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."

~A very dirty little fellow came in from playing in the

yard and asked his mother, "Who am I? " Ready to play the game she said, "I don't know! Who are you?" "WOW!" cried the child. "Mrs. Johnson was right! She said I was so dirty, my own mother wouldn't recognize me!"

~A wise schoolteacher sends this note to all parents on the first day of school: "If you promise not to believe everything your child says happens at school, I'll promise not to believe everything he says happens at home.

~ An elderly woman died last month. Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, "They wouldn't take me out while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead.

~ A police recruit was asked during the exam, "What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?" He said, "Call for backup."

Ride The Hiawatha Trail

There is a mountain bike ride of the Hiawatha Trail scheduled for Saturday, August 5th. A helmet for your head, and a light for your bike are mandatory. (Flashlight with duct tape works well.) The cost is $6 per person. It is a beautiful ride which takes you through tunnels and over trestles. If you are interested in going, see either Scott Rouse or Jordan Keough
