June 11th, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Last week was so special. Our day of Prayer and Fasting was very well received. Many spent the day in prayer and fasting, while many others skipped the noon meal. Money that was collected from skipping these meals totaled nearly $440! One of the principles that we explored last week in regard to fasting was - "Fasting is a discipline to the body to humble the soul." Learning to master of our bodies is an exercise to help us learn to yield our spirits to our Master. About 35 stayed for the afternoon session spending about an hour and a half in prayer. Being able to share with each other in that way and praying together reminds us that we are not here for ourselves but for the Lord. The early church would often fast corporately in the selection of their leaders. However, fasting, primarily, is an individual matter. Jesus said that when you fast, to groom yourself, wash your face and to not look somber. What is important is not what men think, but what God thinks. I know our new elders and deacons appreciate your prayers on their behalf. I am very excited about the future of this congregation. We have struggled over the past 2+ years for a variety of reasons. But there comes a time when, the past must be put behind us and we have to go on. Satan wants to deter us. Our outgoing elders had some difficult sessions, but those difficult times, brought them closer to the Lord, because they were driven more to pray. Our new leaders now are better equipped. I was very moved by the words of encouragement from both Jerry Welch and John Erwin. Both of them did not accept requests to be a shepherd again. Jerry felt he would be out of town too much. He and his wife, Christine, are wonderful servants. They will continue to be an asset to this church. Their example of constancy and love leaves a long lasting impression on all of us. John and Joyce Erwin decided that because of work related schedules, that he needed to be home with his family more. They also are wonderful servants. John has added a spiritual dimension to the congregation that also leaves us richer. John will continue on as a deacon and we look forward to his continued service. Be sure to keep them, as well as our new shepherds, and special servants in your prayers. Have a Great Week !!
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew
28:18-20

CCS Corner If I had to make a list of all of the lessons learned at C.C.S., it would be like number the stars or something like that. I think that God has a special lesson for each person who has ever been a part of C.C.S. My special lesson has been learning to trust HIM. One of the things that makes it hard for us to focus at the end of the year is thinking about the next school year. Everyone would like to know exactly how things will be in the fall. Some decisions cannot be made until the school board gets certain feedback. Can that be frustrating? Yes, however, I think that is where God's lesson for me comes in: Trust in Him, and He will take care of it! God has also used you to help take care of things and increase our faith. Thank you for the generous $4000 plus donation on the special contribution Sunday.

Jesus Is The Way "For many of life's questions, there are no simple answers. Yet there is a Person who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and when we come to him and stay with him, he leads us into his truth -- when we choose to stand under the authority of Scripture. Rejecting both extremes -- that of literalism and that of liberalism -- we are invited to see the world through the framework of Scripture. . . . Beware of treating the Bible as a phone book or a reference book, which we use merely to get information. Rather, it is a rich resource that can inform and shape our perceptions and our world-view."
