SHORT    By

STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Today was/is an exciting day in the life of the church which meets in Dalton Gardens. The local congregation started meeting nearly 60 years ago. Many people, including our very own Opal Wilson, were integral parts of helping this church to get off of the ground. What started out very small with only a handful of people has now grown to a congregation that is very well known in the community and is supporting missionaries throughout the world.

One of the things that has helped bring about this growth is the development of leaders. The first two elders of this church were Alfred Clemetson and Laverne Rude, both of whom have now gone to be with the Lord. I am sure they would be amazed at the amount of work being done. This church has undergone a lot of changes over even the last few years. We have had our share of ups and downs. But regardless, the Lord's work is unstoppable. His love for us can overcome any obstacle that comes our way. Jesus said that the gates of hell would not be able to overcome the assault of the church. Satan himself has set up strongholds in order to keep his people in tact. But the church is like a battering ram seeking to destroy anything that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. The question that remains is, "are we going to be the people through whom he works?" Despite our imperfections, the Lord is delighted to work through the broken pottery who are willing to allow his light to shine through. For us to be effective in the community, we must be united and follow our leaders. All of us, but especially our elders, deacons, and evangelists must be committed to following our chief shepherd, Jesus Christ. Be sure to keep our new leaders in your prayers. Their work can be very tiresome and lonely, but it can also be very rewarding as they see each of us develop a closer walk with God. We can help them out by helping to make their work a joy. Pray for each of them and get involved yourself. As we work together, we will conquer the world for Jesus Christ.

Have a Great Week !!

"...and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday."

Christian camps have historically been recognized as one of the most productive mission fields. Every year hundreds of kids make life-long commitments to Jesus while attending a Bible camp.

Camp Princes' Pine is no exception. Many of the kids in our youth group have been baptized, and / or made recommitments there. If you asked our kids to tell the the most significant events which influenced their walk with Christ, most of them would place "camp" at or near the top of the list. Parents, help your kids set their priorities to include at least one week of each summer at Camp Princes' Pine. They will see true Christianity in action, and make memories for a lifetime.

Registration forms are available at the kiosk in the foyer. Early registration will ensure your child a spot, since camp sizes are limited.

Camp can and will change your child's life!

The Graduation Gift

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words...PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

Need A Graduation Gift?

There are two new Bibles which would be great for gift giving available in the office, $20 each. Mike or Monica. (P.S. No keys included!)
