SHORT   By

STUFF DAVE SHANER

Today is Mother's Day. The scriptures encourage us to give honor to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7). Anyone can become a mother. It takes someone special to be a mommy. Moms are the ones to whom children run when they are hurt. Moms are the ones that children often go to when they need a listening ear. Moms are the ones that set the tone in a family. Moms are the ones more often than not who make the home just that, a home. This is not to say that dads don't have their parts, but moms somehow are gifted with an understanding heart that seems to come more difficult to most men. One of the greatest gifts that moms can give their children is the gift of faith in Christ. Often many mothers do not have a spiritually supportive husband. Thus, the job of spiritual training is handed to the moms by default. There are many great examples in scripture and history of how mothers have impacted the world through their children. Hannah prayed to the Lord for a child promising that if her prayer was granted, she would dedicate her son to the Lord. The Lord answered her prayer and Samuel became one of the greatest of God's prophets. Eunice did not have a Christian husband but trained her son, Timothy, in the ways of God and he became a powerful evangelist. Your children do not have to be full-time evangelists but do take the spiritual training of your children seriously. For years, the backbone of the church has been the strength of our women and especially in their role as mothers. Todays' society likes to minimize the differences between men and women. But you can count on this - "Men make better fathers and women make better mothers." Paul said, "But women will be saved through childbearing - if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety." - I Timothy 6:15. The idea of childbearing is not just the idea of giving birth but includes child raising. There is no greater work than to raise your children to walk in God's ways. God saves you in the sense that He preserves your faith through this often very difficult process. Even though it is difficult, it is and will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. My mother passed away last month. I wish I could have one more mother's Day to let her know how much I loved her. Don't let this opportunity slip by you to do the same. Say a very special prayer of thankfulness for your mother. Have a Great Week !!

"I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also"

1 Timothy 1:5

Happy Mother's Day!

New Sister In The Lord!

Last Saturday, May 6th was a great day as many angels and a few saints rejoiced when Phyllis Litalien put on her Lord in baptism. You must get to know Phyllis! She is a special woman. Phyllis is the mother of Jim Litalien, mother-in-law of Suzy, and grandmother of Steven & Cole.

Phyllis and her husband, Jerry, live at 716 Deerhaven, in Dalton Gardens. And their phone number is 772-0855. Be sure to add her to your copy of our attendance directory. Welcome Phyllis to the family of God at Dalton Gardens!

Elder/Deacon Selection

The final list for our new leaders, both elders and deacons has been selected. Be sure to see the accompanying insert on who these are. We would like to ask you to pray over these for God's will to be accomplished in this selection. If anyone has any concerns about any particular recommendation, we would encourage you to talk to that person about your concerns. If there are any further concerns that merit further consideration, be sure to let the current elders know in writing before next Sunday. The scriptures give very little detail over how this process was accomplished. We do know that the congregation was involved in the selection process (Acts 6:3) and that the evangelist was told to be very careful in the appointment of leaders, lest he also incur their sins (I Timothy 5:22). Various scriptures are intended to be a guideline for us to use to qualify a man for these important jobs. Also use common sense in applying these scriptures. One example of common sense is, does that person have the time and will he devote the time to this responsibility? Overall, whether the selection is for shepherds or deacons, we wish to place men who are full of the Holy Spirit., wisdom, and faith. Pending further discussion, the formal appointment of our new leaders is set for next Sunday, May 21, at 9:00 a.m.

IT'S CAMP TIME!!

Whether we're ready or not, this school year is almost over, and it's time to get ready for the activities of the summer. Camp Prince's Pine Registration forms have been out for several weeks now, and some of you have already completed and returned yours'. It is very important for you to pre-register!!! Not only does it help us prepare for your week at camp, but you save $30! The final date for pre-registration for Teen Camp I is June 4 - only 3 weeks away! For Music Camp, pre-registration time ends June 11. Get your forms in NOW! Extra copies are on the kiosk in the lobby.

Parents, if your kids are camp age, and haven't yet decided to go to camp this summer, help them make that decision. We must not allow them to make decisions that deprive them of wonderful opportunities for spiritual growth. Get them there. They will have a good time, and learn bunches.

Another activity of the summer is our Mission Trip to Honduras. The following ten young people will be on the team to serve in various ways, and teach a VBS in LaCeiba Honduras: Chris Rouse, Jenny Dupey, Randy Rice, Zach Shaner, Jessica Bruner, Hillary Pietlicki, James Dupey, Nick Swartz, Mallory Jaynes, and Clarissa White. Plane tickets have been purchased, and plans are being set for all the activities from departure at 4 pm, July 7th until our return at 9:38 pm, July 17th. It will be a very rewarding and fruitful experience for us as well as for the Hondurans whose lives we touch.

To make the trip possible, each of us will need to raise about $1200. Many letters have been written to family and friends, and other congregations asking for help. We have been busy doing projects and yard work to raise funds, and many of you have been contacted personally for donations. I hope we haven't offended any one, and I appreciate all who have helped already. If you would like to help with this unique mission experience, you may give your donation to any of the kids, or to the church earmarked "Honduran Mission Fund". Your support of our youth work is always appreciated.

Family Camp is Soon!

Come join us for the 18th Annual Family Camp at Camp Prince's Pine ~ May 26-29 "Family Ties"

Registration forms and schedules are at the kiosk.

Happy Mother's Day to all the "moms' in our lives!

Shut The Door!

No sooner had God created Eve than the devil sought her out to talk to her. Why? Because he knows something about Eve, just as he knows something about women today. He knows that women are the door to life.

Women are the only legal entry into the earth realm. If it is going to be born, it is going to be born of a woman. If it is going to come from the eternal realm into the realm of time, it is going to come through the door of a woman's womb. The devil waiting at the door.

Most women don't seem to understand that they are the passageway - the entry for life. It is an awesome responsibility, an awesome privilege.

We each were chosen by God from the foundations of eternity, but in order to get us from eternity into time, God has only one method - that we be born of a woman. God is so serious about this law of His creation that when He got ready to pour Himself into human flesh and live on this earth, He didn't violate His own method but rather, was born of a woman.

It is this fact that puts women on the devil's hit list. The enemy is opposed to life. He deals in sickness, destruction, denial, devastation, thievery, and death. The enemy knows that if he is going to be successful, he must conquer the legal entryway to life.

Woman, guard your doors and lock them. Slam the fence gates shut and chain them tight. Be very careful what you let come through you . . .

what you let affect you . . .
what you let influence you . . .
and be careful what spirit you let loose in your mind . . .
in your emotions . . .
in your family.
Shut the door!
Shut the door on that confusion.
Shut the door on that depression.
Shut the door on that temptation.
Shut the door on that evil spirit.
You are shutting the door in the devil's face.

When God Made Moms

By the time the Lord made mothers, he was into his sixth day of working overtime. An Angel appeared and said "Why are you spending so much time on this one"? And the Lord answered and said, "Have you seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic; have 200 movable parts, all replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers; have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up; have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands."

The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. "Six pairs of hands! No Way!" said the Angel. The Lord replied, "Oh, it's not the hands that are the problem. It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!"

"And that's just on the standard model?" The Angel asked.

The Lord nodded in agreement, "Yes, one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head, are to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word."

The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish." "But I can't!" the Lord protested,

"I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old to stand in the shower."

The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, "But you have made her so soft, Lord."

"Yes, she is soft", the Lord agreed, "But I have also made her tough.

You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."

"Will she be able to think?", asked the inquisitive Angel.

The Lord smiled and replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate."

The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."

"That's not a leak." The Lord objected. "That is a tear!"

"What's the tear for? the Angel asked. The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her pain, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride."

The Angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Truly, You do all things well... Moms are truly amazing!"

Happy Mother's Day!
