April 30th, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) in Phoenix last week was very successful. There were 40 that took part in the program. They do not know the results of their efforts as yet. This evening, at 5:30 pm there will be a special time to inform them of their progress and reward them for their hard work. They will be conducting a wonderful time of singing, drama, puppets, and scripture reading for your encouragement. Some of it will be very serious, some will be lighthearted. All of it will be encouraging. In lieu of this time and to encourage maximum attendance, the Bible Study Groups will not be meeting this evening. The other Bible Study Groups throughout the week will be meeting at the discretion of the BSG leader. Be sure to be here this evening to encourage our young people and to get your cup filled as well. Be sure to keep our missionaries in your prayers. Dave & Becky Reeves are still in France attending French language school. But the time for them to depart for Togo is coming up very quickly. Jerry, Pam, and Levi Sizemore are doing a wonderful work in Siberia, Russia. Recently a group of men and women from a nearby city came to them wanting to learn more about New Testament Christianity. They forsook their manmade, denominational teachings and were baptized into Christ. They were seeking the truth of the gospel. Jesus said that if you will seek, you will find. They sought them out and were taught the gospel. Now there is another congregation of the Lord's body in another city! Also be sure to keep in mind some of our stateside missionaries whom we have been privileged to help - Jim and Diane Rude in Astoria, Oregon, Ric & Cathy Dukes in Bonners Ferry, and Cliff & Donna Utter in Priest River. These works are small and are located in smaller towns where the opportunities are not as numerous as in the larger cities. It is easy to get discouraged, but persistence and patience are keys to kingdom growth. We, as a congregation, have been very blessed to be able to work with these families. Continue to hold them up to our heavenly Father as they labor in the fields. Have a Great Week!! "When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple praising God." Luke

LTC Awards Tonight, at 5:30 pm will be a special time for our LTC students. They will finally find out how well they did in Phoenix! Please come and share in their accomplishments.
prayers@dgchurch.org Last week it was announced that if you had a prayer request, you could go onto the church's web site and have your request be sent to the church's email directory. There has been some inquiry as to how this works. Per Steve Taylor: "Messages sent to prayers@dgchurch.org will only be forwarded to me. I then in turn forward the message to all of the members that are in my address book. This list is "totally confidential". When a message is sent out, everyone's email address will be hidden. This will eliminate the risk of exposing your address and prevent a "spammer" from taking all the emails from our members and take advantage of and/or abuse them. Any prayer requests that get sent during the day won't actually go out to everyone else until that evening. This will cause a short delay in how fast the prayer request goes out." Steve also plans to email on Friday the current prayer requests from the following Sunday's bulletin. This would give everyone "a few day's head start" on praying! Thank you Steve for helping the church to meet each other's prayer needs in this incredibly fast informational age!! If you have changed your email address, or would like to be added onto Steve's list, you may turn your address into the church office and Monica will make sure it is forwarded onto Steve (and the office would have it as well!). We would like for other members to be able to send you e-mail via the web site. If you do not want your name available in this way, please let either Steve or the office know.

Thank You Another hearty "Thank You!" goes to Ken Neubauer for building a very nice looking "Soup Kitchen Donation" box. It is located in the lower foyer at the end of the flower box. All are welcome to try it out! Thank you from Marge & Ron Dupey for the prayers and food delivered during Marge's recovery from surgery. The Danny Long and family thank you for the prayers on behalf of Danny's court hearings. The judge will now look over all the information from the past few months and be making a decision. They are all done with the court appearances! Keep this decision in your prayers.
It's A Girl! Ron & Marge Dupey are proud to announce they have another "great" granddaughter, Aleah Denea Petersen, born last Tuesday, April 25th! Aleah weighed 9#, 11 oz. After a pretty tough delivery, mom and daughter are now home doing fine. Congratulations Tim & Connie!!
Void In A Pew If you noticed a void in a certain pew towards the front on the left hand side, it is because Henry & Kay Acosta have moved to southern Idaho, (Fruitland), to be closer to their family. Rumor has it, they should be back to get their belongings packed. We will print their new address once we receive it! P.S. If you happen to get their address, please let Monica in the office know, also!
Mike's Memos Snooze Button Obedience Over and over again God says in his word that he expects obedience. He promises that if his people will listen to him and obey him, he will bless them beyond their wildest dreams. He also promises that if they disobey him, the punishment will be worse than they can imagine. So, believing God's word and his promises, we want to obey him. The questions are, "Do we really understand the concept of obedience?" and "Are we willing to deny self and obey?" Biblical examples make it adamantly clear that, to God, obedience is cut and dried. It's not a "take ten, fudge a little bit, and then decide" situation. Whether it was Adam & Eve at the tree, Abraham with Isaac on Mt. Moriah, Nadab & Abihu with the strange fire, or Peter at the trial of Jesus, a decision to obey or disobey was required, not later but now. I believe, along with other devices that teach procrastination, the alarm clock snooze button teaches us to not make decisive judgments. Instead, we can just wait a little while. If, when faced with a decision between right and wrong, we hit the snooze button, while we wait, while we sleep, Satan gets his foot in the door and has a chance to influence our decision. We all know that procrastination is a Devil's tool. And yet, we allow it to affect our decisions, to make us late for Bible class, for worship, for appointments, and we don't care enough to make a change. You can be sure, Satan is grinning as we give him that space in our lives? Don't hit the snooze button, when the alarm goes off, get up! Make a decision! Stand up and be counted! Be on time! Decide to obey! Manna International has been an organization for humanitarian relief in the churches of Christ for many years. Calling attention to the abundance we enjoy in America, they challenge us to spend time in prayer for the less fortunate, and focus a collective giving effort on a special need ie. water wells in Africa, hurricane relief in Honduras. Let's join them in the whole month of May in a program to focus our attention on the needs of others instead of on self. (see the back of the May calendar insert in this bulletin) Also plan to be a part of a group here at the church building on June 4th for a day of prayer and fasting. If you want to know more about the program, call 1-800-HUNGER or see their web site - www.nohunger.org "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3

There were many informative and creative projects on display. Awards were given for each grade and category. Mrs. Taylor's second grade class won the Best Group Project for K-3rd for their display on bats. The class included art projects, drawings, questions on bat knowledge, a fruit salad consisting of bat-dependent items, and a simulated bat cave. Congratulations to all the participants of the fair!

One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her small boy into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?" The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't, dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: "The big sissy." TO SERVE May 7, 2000
