April 23rd, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) in Phoenix is off and running to a very good start. Last Thursday, we sent 40 teenagers and brave adults to Phoenix for their annual convention. They have been working on various projects, including Bible Bowl (II Kings), community service projects, scripture challenge, Bible reading, video Bible class teaching, extemporaneous speaking, chorus, Christian art, drama and a host of other activities. As of this writing, we do not know how they have fared, but we know they will do well as they have been working on these projects for the last 9 months. This is always a highlight of the year for this group and it yields many positive benefits to the church here. They will be returning this evening. Be sure to keep them in your prayers as they travel. As most of you know, my mother, Polly Shaner, passed away this past week. She went in for surgery to replace a heart valve and never recovered from the surgery. I have always worked to help people through times of crisis in their lives. Never before have I experienced the death of a loved one in my family. She and my father raised 5 children all of whom are dedicated Christians and active members of the Lord's church. She and my father were married for 48 years. It's hard to believe that she is gone. Even though, I knew that she might not make it, somehow, I always thought that she would. So many of you have reached out to my family. It is very much appreciated. It seems unbearable at times, but God has been a great comfort. Psalm 116:15 says, "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." As much as she was important to me and my family, God was foremost in her life. As cruel as death can be, it is a passageway to eternal life with God. In fact, God calls that experience "precious". She kept the faith and passed the test. Now she is receiving what the Lord has prepared for all those who love him. She really is home. As important as our earthly family is, it is not as important as life with God. It's a part of our faith. The tears still come, but what a day of rejoicing it is for her. With that, I realize that God really does comfort the troubled heart. Thank you, Lord for your unfathomable promises. Have a Great Week!! Welcome! Today is the day that is recognized as the day that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. Unlike Christmas, this is a day of which we can be quite certain. If you are a guest with us today, we are glad that you are here and would like to welcome you to the Lord's worship assembly. Just being here let's us know that you yearn for spiritual fulfillment in your life and want to know more about God's will. The Dalton Gardens church seeks to simply be an undenominational group of believers. We use the New Testament as a pattern for how the church should be today. The denominational world today represents many different "Christian" beliefs that have been formulated over years of traditions. Many times, the changes that took place to develop these denominations were a positive step closer to the Bible but many times they were over man's opinions not over what the Bible says. In either case, the end result is a fracturing of Christianity into many groups all claiming to be going to the same place but on different roads. Although it is difficult to escape denominational trappings and the environment that one has become accustomed to, we seek to just go back to the Bible to be in the 20th century Christians only as Christians were in the 1st century. Jesus, himself prayed that the entire group of believers would be one - John 17:21. The only way to accomplish that unity that Jesus prayed for is to go back to the pattern laid out for us in the New Testament. God's Word is the one thing that we can unite on. When you go back to the teachings of the scriptures, you find many distinctive things about becoming a Christian and how the church is to function. For example, in order to become a Christian, one must believe with all of his heart that Jesus is really God's son and as such, Lord and Savior. He must then turn from sin (repent), and be immersed into Christ. This is the only way the scriptures teach that one can be saved. These believers would then meet regularly for mutual encouragement and to receive instruction on Christian living. During these meetings on the first day of every week, they would take the Lord's Supper together. They would sing from their hearts praises to God that would encourage one another. As a group they were committed no only to the Lord and his purposes, but also to one another for either spiritual or physical needs. We, as New Testament Christians, recognize that this world is not our home. We are just passing through to a city that God has prepared on the other side. If we can ever be of assistance to you on your pilgrimage of faith, please don't hesitate to call us. Calendar Of Events Apr 27; CCS Science/Lit/Art

A thought to Ponder There came a time in my life when I earnestly prayed: "God, I want your power!" Time wore on and the power did not come. One day the burden was more than I could bear. "God," I asked, "Why haven't you answered that prayer?" God seemed to whisper back this simple reply: "With plans no bigger than yours, you don't need my power." - Carl Bates Bulletin Want Ads Items Wanted House Cleaning Jobs Kim Frisk 772-2217 Kelly Lund 762-8228 Ladies Cotton Hankies Earlene Reeves 762-8024 C.C.S. Corner Rejoice! Christ Lives! Need Extra Money? C.C.S. is looking for someone to organize and take care of the 4th of July fireworks booth this summer. See Betty Rude or Dan DuPey if interested. The Miracle Maker -Tonight ABC will be airing "The Miracle Maker," a claymation of the life of Christ on Resurrection Sunday (Easter) evening between 7 pm and 9 PM EST - it is Biblically accurate (except for a couple of minor chronological events) and is extremely well presented according to the Dallas guys who reviewed it. They say it is the first presentation as a man that you (as Peter puts it) would want to go fishing with. The Death and resurrection is extremely well presented - especially the crucifixion. Typically ABC airs the 10 Commandments in this slot. ABC is experimenting with Christian programming. They are NOT promoting it - not spending $1 on advertising it. The idea is to see what the viewing will be. This will determine if the "Christian" block is real or not! So even if you aren't going to be home - turn it on! List the sponsors and write and tell them how much you appreciate their sponsoring the show - and if possible support their product in the next couple of weeks. Word (KWRD 94.9fm) Radio, Dallas broke the story today. So now get the word out and lets show them how we can rally around something good! TO SERVE April 30, 2000
