April 16th, 2000 Guest Article If Tomorrow Never Comes If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more. If I knew it would be the last I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day. If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two, to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming, you would KNOW I would. If I knew it would be the last time, I would be there to share your day, well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away. For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right. There will always be another day to say our "I love yous" and certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do's?" But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I would like to say how much I love you and I hope you never forget. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, and today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight. So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day, that you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish. So hold your loved one's close today, whisper in their ear, tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear, take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," " thank you" or " it's okay" And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today. In memory of Polly Shaner, who chose to live her Christian life to the fullest. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25 Our hearts go out to the Shaner family, Dave, Kathy, Zach, Kurt, & Austin, at the loss of Dave's mom, Polly, last Thursday evening. They were able to fly out yesterday and will be gone through Tuesday. The funeral is Monday, at 11:00 am, at the Southside Church of Christ, in Milwaukee. Polly was a wonderful Christian woman, and those of us who knew her were truly blessed by her giving & very "spunky" spirit! If you would like to send a card to Dave's dad, his address is: David Shaner

Mike's Memos Even though the weather is fickle, and the weather man is a little confused, Spring is here. New life is springing up everywhere. It is an awesome time to remember that God is the author of life, and it is because of Christ's resurrection that we can have new life. Next Sunday is known in the "Christian" world as Easter Sunday, and it is good that so many people reflect on the most important event in all of God's great plan to redeem man. The following would certainly be a memorable way to teach our children about Christ's resurrection, and emphasize its importance for all of us. EMPTY TOMB COOKIES 1 cup whole pecans
1 cup sugar
Preheat oven to 300 (this is important-don't wait till you're half done with the recipe). Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3. Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30. Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11. Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27. So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16. Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3. Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matt. 27:57-60. Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66. GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22. On Sunday morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the third day Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matt. 28:1-9 C.C.S. Corner Spring Is Like A Flower It is born into
