April 9th, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Sometimes you have to punt and trust God. When nothing seems to go right, it is often best to just let whatever happens, just happen. Everyone experiences times in their lives when you wonder why "this" is happening. Currently, I am writing this on an airplane back to Wisconsin and there is a lot of turbulence. I have been reminded that I am on a plane that was put together by the manufacturer with the cheapest bid. Also, today, is my parent's 48th anniversary. A phone call informed me at 4:30 a.m. that my mother may not live through the day. A lot of emotions are going through my head. I don't know what I am going to do when I get there. I'll hug my Dad. This is an opportunity to trust my God and live out my convictions. God is real. God loves each one of us. God allowed His son to die in our place. Heaven is real. God has provided a way for those whose trust is in Him to live with Him forever. Who knows, maybe God will allow my mom to live longer on this earth. That may or may not happen. Can I just trust God no matter what? Three young Hebrew men were about to "face the fire in their lives. King Nebuchadnezzar had ordered the furnace heated to 7 times it normal temperature and had these men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego thrown in. The men who threw them into the furnace were consumed by the heat just for getting close. God saved the three Hebrews. They came out "smelling like a rose." They were not burned. Their hair was not singed. Their clothes did not even smell like smoke! None of that surprises me. God specializes in the spectacular. What did get my attention was the attitude and statement made to the king? The replied to him, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." - Daniel 3:16-18. Can you look death in the face and say, "no matter what happens, it's OK, because my trust is in the Lord." It's a test of faith. Everyone has to take this test. God isn't looking for a perfect score. Jesus said, that if you have faith as tiny as a mustard seed (that's not much faith) that you can accomplish anything - Matthew 17:20. It is not the amount of the faith, but the object of your faith that is important. In times of crisis, our faith is tested. In these times we validate our convictions. I am thankful that my God loves us and I am thankful that my mom loves God no matter what. I hope to be back with you soon. Have a Great Week!! "Therefore
everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like
a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams
rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall
because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25
The Dalton Gardens Church of Christ Family Ministry Presented: "Families And The Church" Thank you for sharing our day with us. You are always welcome to come and be a part of our family here at Dalton Gardens! Elder/Deacon
Forms
The leader selection process has been kept open for another week. Last Sunday the announcement was made that the committee would meet that afternoon. The decision was made to extend the nomination process because as of last week only 20 or so forms had been submitted. This is a very important part of the work here and each member should be eager to be involved. I hope that most of you just forgot rather than you just don't care. Either way the turnout thus far is disappointing. I think that God expects all of his children to be involved in this important process. Please consider this prayerfully and turn in your form today! For the elders Scott Be sure to turn in your selection forms today. They may be given to Warren or Lynn Brown, Helen Rouse, Pat Irmer, or Wayland Lipscomb. Prayer Fellowship EVERYONE is welcome to join in a time of prayer as we call on the Lord every Sunday morning from 8 to 9 in the small auditorium. I am so grateful to each and every person who has made the kitchen such an exciting place to be! In addition to the ministry of the needy I have made some wonderful friends. Joanna sets up and cleans up each week. She also does the birthday cakes for our guests. George does our appliance upkeep and so many extras. Judie Sanborn comes after work and helps clean up. Theresa Hartofilax & Karlene Graham are there to clean up also. Theresa also helps with child care. Bob & Jennie do all the dirty work as well as the extras at home. Jo Allen helps with the preparation and is so willing to serve. What servants they are doing the preparation and washing all those dishes! Margie Waddell does so many extras and she never wants recognition. She always goes out of her way to give the kitchen a "homey" touch. Terri Carter is there from the beginning to the end and does it all. Kathy Morse is also there for the long hall, and who is my "peace maker". Her warm personality helps to make our guests feel welcome! And all of our children who serve and watch out for the younger children. They are a very important part of this ministry as well! Thank you all for the extra blessings and time you put into this event!...And to our regular church members who are always there. Even though I don't get much time to visit, I appreciate you so much for being there. Your presence is a vital part of this ministry. Especially the acceptance and efforts in reaching out to our guests is most admirable. A quick reminder to those who may not know the kitchen is not funded by the church and we count on your donations to cover expenses. We have decided to keep the "donation box" in the office. For those in our church who are financially struggling themselves, this does not apply to you. Thank you again for all your support in picking up grocery bags and to so many who have donated that I don't even know about. May God bless you! Kim Wedding Reception There will be a Wedding Reception for Justin Bruner & Amy Redelsperger Sunday, April 30, 3:00 pm Small Auditorium Mike's Memos A letter from the road with Clarissa White, Hillary Pietlicki, Zach Shaner, Randy Rice, Paul Gorsline, Faydra Hunley, Donny Adams, Lauri Kloberdanz, Annette Gorsline, and Mike Reeves. We have had an awesome trip. Leaving last Friday at 9:30a.m., we traveled straight to York Christian College in York, Nebraska, making a short stop to see Christian education in the Midwest. Leaving York, we arrived in Edmond, Oklahoma, just north of Oklahoma City, at 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Our two and a half days at Oklahoma Christian were enjoyable and productive. The kids all got their first look at a large Christian college. We left Tuesday afternoon and drove the last six hours of our trip over to Searcy, Arkansas, arriving at Harding University about 7:30 p.m. Dave Shaner flew down from Milwaukee to spend time with Zach and the rest of us. We have had a great time on this campus, attending classes, meetings, listening to chorus groups, attending chapel and talking about finances. At this point, these eight juniors and seniors have a completely different perspective of Christian education, and a much better basis for deciding their futures. We will be leaving Harding in thirty minutes, 11:00 p.m. Friday, to begin our thirty-four hour van ride home. That may sound awful, but if it's as good a trip as it was coming down, we'll have a blast. They are an awesome bunch of kids. Annette Gorsline and I have enjoyed being with them very much. Life challenges us with many important decisions. The three ranking at the top in order of importance would be #1 becoming a Christian, #2 choosing a mate, and #3 selecting a college. It should be easier for these kids to make that third choice wisely. It has been a special time to give them a first hand look at some great possibilities for a Christian education. Rake & Run ~Yard work~Garden~Window Washing~ It's Spring cleaning time....and we'd like to help you help us. A team of our senior high teens will be going to Honduras this summer to do mission work - if we can raise enough money for the trip. We're willing to work. We'll do your spring cleaning for a donation to our Honduran Mission Fund. Contact Zach, James, Jessica, Clarissa, Hillary, Mallory or Mike, or call the office, or sign up at the kiosk. You Miss Larry's
If you missed Larry Flanagan's marriage class last Sunday morning, you missed some timely ideas regarding the five most important emotional needs of your mate. If you were in Larry's class, I know you probably were caught off guard and didn't get the chance to write these needs down. As Larry mentioned, there are many other emotional needs, but these tend to be the most common: His Needs Her Needs Sexual Fulfillment Affection Recreational Conversation Companionship Honesty & Openness An Attractive Spouse Financial Support Domestic Support Family Commitment Admiration If you would like to further explore these needs, purchase the book by Willard Hurley, called His Needs / Her Needs. Better yet, sign up to take Larry and Peggy's His Needs/Her Needs marriage course, as the book is included in the class materials! HNHN creates a positive, supportive, safe environment for couples. Not only do you get the opportunity to explore these needs with your spouse, but the environment created in the class will encourage both husband and wife with the fact that they are "not alone" when it comes to having these needs. See Larry or Peggy if you are interested in signing up for a future session. WWJRD What Would Jesus Really Do? A Marriage & Family

Kim Census 2000 Have you answered your census questionnaire yet? Many communities use census information to attract new business or plan for growth. In fact, many religious groups use the census numbers to plan new facilities for their congregations. But if some segments of the population don't participate as much as others, those segments will be under represented in the results. Help make sure our community is well represented in this census. If you haven't received a census form yet, please get one from a Questionnaire Assistance Center near you TO SERVE April 16, 2000
