April 2nd, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER Today, the Family Ministry started our two weekend series on the family and the church. We appreciate Mike Swaim and Larry Flanagan for their willingness to teach while I am out of town. They are a very integral part of helping us to strengthen the family. Those who have gone through the His Needs/Her Needs seminar taught by Larry and Peggy have felt it is one of the most useful classes they have ever been a part of. They will be teaching many more of these in the future. If you are interested, be sure to see them today. There needs to be 8-12 couples signed up to make the class effective. A date will be set for the next series of classes after these quotas are reached and according to what is best for the couples involved. This class strengthens marriages. It is a tool. We need to keep our tools sharpened so that we can use them effectively. The entire Family Ministry seeks to strengthen our spiritual bonds in the church as well. The church in the New Testament is simply the Family of God. The body of Christ is not a denomination nor is it the product of human endeavor. When God sought out a description of what we call the church, one of the most common descriptions is that of family. One of the purposes of the church that we have seen is that of "Maturing the Saints". This can be accomplished in part through education, through fellowship, through service, through worship, and by developing closer bonds as a family. No family is perfect, but when you belong to a family, you become very protective of them. We don't always choose who are family is, but just because we are family, we love each other. Love needs to be the overriding characteristic of the Family of God. Jesus said that this was the way all men would know we are His disciples - John 13:34. The apostle stated that love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. - I Corinthians 13:4-8a. God has made us brothers and sisters. Jesus Christ is our elder brother. Let's seek to love each other more every day. the church, your spiritual family will be strengthened and your physical family will be strengthened as well. Have a Great Week!! "Near the cross of Jesus
stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary
Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved
standing nearby, he said to his mother. "Dear woman, here is your son,"
and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple
took her into his home." John 19:25-27

Do you want your marriage to be enriched? This seminar is bound to bless both you and your spouse! There are preregistration forms at the kiosk. World Bible School Every ministry has it's struggles. Anytime we try to teach God's word, Satan does all he can to destroy it. One example of that has happened in our WBS teaching. Because of a lack of information regarding a code number, most of our first lesson mail-outs have not made it back to us for grading. The problem has been corrected, but lets's pray that those student lessons have returned to some good teachers and that sweetness efforts to hide the truth have been thwarted. Thank You From Jan Almond: I want to thank everybody for their prayers on my behalf. All tests were good! Also, my sister and brother-in-law, Velsa and George Kane, made it safely to Montana. He is "some better". Please keep George in your prayers as he recovers from his stroke. From Teen Pearson: Thanks for all your prayers for me in the death of my sister and thank you for continuing your prayers for Anita. A big thanks to Bob & Jennie Brown, Joanna Wuest, Judie Sanborn, Margie Waddell, Kathy Morse, Terri Carter & all the gang for doing such a great job helping in the Soup Kitchen. Your servant attitude has not gone unnoticed! Senior Saints On The Go.... The Senior Saints have scheduled a lunch at the Olive Garden in Spokane followed by a trip to the IMAX theater to watch a matinee on Fantasia. We will leave Saturday, April 22nd at 11:30 am from the building for Spokane Riverfront Park. After lunch at the Olive Garden, we will walk nearby to the IMAX theater to see Walt Disney's Fantasia. Since Mike had only a few hours to prepare to be gone, (ie: No Mike's Memos) and we are celebrating families at Dalton Gardens for the next two weeks.....I thought you would like to know what our children MIGHT be thinking as they ponder those most important questions in life!........ HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY? You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming. - Alan, age 10 No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before hand, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with. - Kirsten, age 10 WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED? Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then. - Camille, age 10 No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married. - Freddie, age 6 HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED? You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids. - Derrick, age 8 WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON? Both don't want any more kids. - Lori, age 8 WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE? Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough. - Lynnette, age 8 On the first date, they just tell each other lies, and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date. - Martin, age 10 WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR? I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns. - Craig, age 9 WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE? When they're rich. - Pam, age 7 The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that. - Curt, age 7 The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do. - Howard, age 8 IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED? It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them. - Anita, age 9 HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED? There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there? - Kelvin, age 8 HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK? Tell your wife that she looks pretty even if she looks like a truck. - Ricky, age 10 Congratulations! Nathan Frisk took 2nd place at the area wide Spelling Bee last Thursday in Harrison! C.C.S. Corner by Teri DuPey Have you discovered the keys to a fulfilling life? Do the roles you play or the work you do fit with who you are? Does the life you lead give you a sense of purpose and meaning? Students at CCS are thinking about their future as they create posters for this year's auction with the theme: Dream into the Future I reminded my students that career is only one aspect of their future. I was pleased to see that many represented a family in their artwork. All of the students have natural talents. They are growing in these and growing spiritually as well. I pray that they use all for the glory of God. "Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 C.C.S.
