STUFF DAVE SHANER

The Family Ministry will be presenting some special lessons for the next two weeks geared toward strengthening the family and the church. Larry Flanagan & Mike Swaim will be teaching and preaching the morning Bible class and sermon respectively next week, April 2, on how the church can strengthen families. Mike and I will be delivering the lessons the following Sunday, April 9, on how families can strengthen the church. These will be great and are sure to make you better Christian spouses and parents.

Sometimes, the widows and widowers within a church tend to get overlooked. In Acts 6, some of the widows were neglected. Peter had the church form a "committee" of men to be sure that their needs were taken care of. We have several in this church who have made a significant impact in the kingdom of God by raising godly families. Let's make sure during special "family" times that the church upholds these special servants as worthy of imitation. They are not looking for such or any other kind of applause, but deserve recognition anyway! In the scriptures, widows had a special place in the church. Of course, the culture was different, but the principle remains the same. They would teach the younger. They would be placed on a list where they were able to serve the church in special ways. They were held in honor and esteem. We live in a culture that idolizes youth. That is not nearly as true in other cultures. Sure everyone longs for the day when one's health was better. But spiritual health is infinitely greater than physical health. Be sure to let our widows know how much you appreciate them.

Be sure to fill out your prospective elders and deacons forms. There is also a place on the forms to indicate any comments you wish to make regarding our preachers. This is not intended to be a threat to anybody, but simply a desire to include everyone by having your thoughts concerning the direction of the church. Perhaps the greatest qualification of all as you look out among you for your new leaders is that they are servants of Christ and his church. Servants don't care as much about titles as they do about the concern of others and the health of the Lord's church. Turn your forms in to any on the selection committee or the office.

Have a Great Week!!

"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."

Next week, we will be passing out forms for you to fill out on whom you would like to serve the congregation as your elders, deacons, and preachers. This is an every other year process whereby to help ensure that Godly leaders are in place. It also gives the opportunity for one leader to be able to shift his responsibilities from one area to another. Our interests can change and it gives the entire congregation a chance to add new leaders and affirm existing ones who will be returning. Spend some time in prayer as you consider carefully your selections. Turn your completed form in to either Helen Rouse, Pat Irmer, Warren Brown, Lynn Brown, or Wayland Lipscomb. If you can not give it to them, you may turn it into the office and it will be forwarded to them. They will compile the results and give the tabulated list to the existing elders who in turn will discuss the various positions with the men whom you recommend. We hope to be able to officially give them their charge and place them into service as soon as possible. If you have any questions, see one of the elders, or one of the preachers, Mike Reeves, or Dave Shaner.

MIQVAH 2000

A Weekend Review

THEME: "Will You Pay The Price....

Or Sell Out?

It was quite a challenge to pull all the pieces of MIQVAH 2000 together, but with the help of a great team of teens, and a church family so willing to give, and do, and share....to spend and be spent for the Lord, it was a very successful youth rally. In relation to this task itself, we can each ask, "Did I pay the price, or did I sell out?" We had a total of 186 registered at the youth rally, with 150 of those being teens from here and from Washington, Oregon, and Montana.

May I personally, and on behalf of the Youth Group, say thank you to all those who brought cookies, housed guests, cooked, served food, washed dishes, cleaned, assigned housing, etc., etc., THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

TEENS, I'm very proud of you. Many adults and teens from here and other places have praised you for a job well done. You are to be commended. But you know and I know it is God who deserves the praise. We constantly asked him for his guidance and help with the rally, and he didn't let us down.

Scripture is replete with examples of God's people being called on to prove their love and faithfulness to a loving Father who has provided us with everything we need, and then showered us with blessings beyond our need. From Adam & Eve to Abraham to Annanias & Sapphira to the Apostles Peter and John, men and women have always been given challenges in life....opportunities to show by their actions that they are willing to give themselves completely to the God who gave them life. Some have succeeded; others have failed miserably. What about us? Once more let us ask, "Am I willing to pay the price...or will I sell out?"

Contact Zach, James, Jessica, Clarissa, Hillary, Mallory or Mike, or call the office, or sign up at the kiosk.

"Pray For Me!"

We have often heard this request. I hear it all the time at the Christian School. Our staff, parents, friends of parents, students, and the Church often ask us to pray for them or to pray for this special situation. We know that God takes care of His. And, we need to pray that we will be an encouragement for "all" to come to Him. God's people have always made prayer a central part of their lives. Even before the Egyptian bondage, the Hebrews were a praying people. Abraham and his servants were accustomed to asking God's blessing and guidance. (Gen 20 & 24) Moses, David, Job, Ezra are well known followers that prayed often. Prayer was a very important part of Jesus' life. He taught and encouraged His disciples to pray and inspired them by His example. His last hours on earth were in prayer. (John 17) Remember that God knows how to "work out" any problem. He is always on top of things and has a perfect timetable! Pray. by Dan DuPey

Census 2000

As I mentioned last week, Census 2000 is under way. Here are five reasons why you should fill out your census form:

1. The census helps our community thrive by providing valuable information for planning programs and services, including schools, hospitals and roads.

2. The census helps us get assistance in times of need. When tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes hit, the census tells rescuers how many people will need their help.

3. The census makes government more responsive by telling government leaders who we are and what we need.

4. The census numbers help industry locate potential markets, and businesses are better able to produce the products and services you want.

5. The census creates an important record for you and your family. Although the census information you provide is held confidential for 72 years, after that time, it can be used for genealogical research. If you need help filling out your form, Questionnaire Assistance Centers are available. Let's join together in this important effort. And make sure that our community is represented in the census.

P.S. Reminder:

Set your clocks ahead this Saturday Night!

Good News With

Russian Missions!

A recent e-mail sent from Jerry Sizemore, a missionary in Barnaul, Siberia, shared an exciting story about the starting of a church in a nearby "village". The e-mail is posted on the mission's board in the foyer. It is rather lengthy, but contains a great story of how God can work in one person and affect the lives of many. Please read this article as it is very encouraging! There are also some funding needs which, after reading the article, you may want to choose to help. If so, write on your contribution, "Barnaul Village Outreach". See Ivan if you have any questions.
