March 19th, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER As of this writing, our annual youth rally is just beginning. There are about 180 participants already registered. I am sure it will be one of the best rallies we have ever had! I say that because, I have never seen the amount of work done by the teenagers themselves into such an effort. When you have an out of town guest preacher, you just assign him some topics and fill in from there. But the teenagers wanted to conduct all of the sessions themselves and have something that was different from other rallies. From singing, to Bible study discussion classes to skits to devotionals plus may other things, their faith has grown just in the preparation. So much of what we do, even though it is intended for the benefit of others, ends up benefiting ourselves the most. In teaching a class, who often benefits the most? The teacher! The apostle, Paul, in Philemon 6 said, "I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ." Did you notice Paul saying that the more we share our faith the more understanding we have? When you are sharing your faith, you don't have as much time to worry about the little things in life. You have bigger issues to deal with when you are spreading the gospel. When a friend of yours is considering putting his faith in Jesus, all other issues take on lesser importance. Learning to major in weightier issues is one thing Jesus encouraged us to do - Matthew 23:23. Next week, we will be passing out forms for you to fill out on whom you would like to serve the congregation as your elders, deacons, and preachers. This is a biannual process whereby to help ensure that Godly leaders are in place. It also gives the opportunity for one leader to be able to shift his responsibilities from one area to another. Our interests can change and it gives the entire congregation a chance to add new leaders and affirm existing ones who will be returning. Spend some time in prayer as you consider carefully your selections. Turn your completed form in to either Helen Rouse, Pat Irmer, Warren Brown, Lynn Brown, or Wayland Lipscomb. If you can not give it to them, you may turn it into the office and it will be forwarded to them. They will compile the results and give the tabulated list to the existing elders who in turn will discuss the various positions with the men whom you recommend. We hope to be able to officially give them their charge and place them into service as soon as possible. If you have any questions, see one of the elders, of one of the preachers, Mike Reeves, or Dave Shaner. Have a Great Week!! "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12 Welcome Teens To MIQVAH 2000! A tremendous THANK YOU to all who provided bowls for Saturday's banquet for our teens. Since there were so many bowls brought in, PLEAASSEEE pick yours up today. Good News With Russian Missions! A recent e-mail sent from Jerry Sizemore, a missionary in Barnaul, Siberia, shared an exciting story about the starting of a church in a nearby "village". The e-mail is posted on the mission's board in the foyer. It is rather lengthy, but contains a great story of how God can work in one person and affect the lives of many. Please read this article as it is very encouraging! There are also some funding needs which, after reading the article, you may want to choose to help. If so, write on your contribution, "Barnaul Village Outreach". See Ivan if you have any questions. Thank You Thank You! Thank you to everyone
who housed teens and chaperones this weekend. Your generosity was very
much appreciated! Linda & Monica

We could use new items ranging from a yo-yo to a huge stuffed teddy bear. Also, we are in need of delicious baked goods, especially cookies! Bless your hearts for all your goodness! Contact Georgette for questions 772-9833. Census 2000 Our community is one of tens of thousands taking park in Census 2000. By taking part in the census, we send a signal to government and business leaders saying, "This is who we are and this is what we need." Our young parents will inform them about children getting ready to enter the school system. Our older neighbors will alert them to the growing demand for health services. And by taking just a few minutes to fill out the questionnaire, our working-aged adults will tell a story about this community's fundamental strengths and basic needs. If we don't take part, we have nothing to say. If you have not already received a census questionnaire, one will be delivered soon. I urge you to look for it, fill it out and return it quickly. Church Humor I had been teaching my three-year old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord's Prayer. For several evenings at bedtime, she would repeat after me the lines from the prayer. Finally, she decided to go solo. I listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word, right up to the end of the prayer: "Lead us not into temptation," she prayed, "but deliver us some e-mail. Amen." And one particular four-year old prayed, "And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets." Thanks for coming, see you next year! TO SERVE March 26, 2000
