February 27, 2000 SHORT By STUFF DAVE SHANER A trait that all Christians need to acquire is that of eagerness. Titus 2:14 says that Christ died to produce a people that are "...eager to do what is good." Barnabas was a described as "a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord." - Acts 11:24. What do you want to be remembered for? I am reminded of the man who wanted printed on his tombstone, "Bowled 300, June 5, 1966." Will people remember you because of a particular bowling game, or some accomplishment, or for who you are on the inside? Goodness is part of the fruit of the Spirit. In other words, it is a gift that comes from God into receptive hearts. It is really quite humbling to realize that most will not remember who you are 100 years from now. But a legacy of goodness can be passed from one generation to the next as God enables it. What does it mean to be good? We all like to think of ourselves as basically "good" folks. But we often gauge "good" by how we compare with somebody else. When we do so, the apostle Paul says that we are not wise - II Corinthians 10:12. Goodness carries with it no selfish ambition. Goodness carries with it a desire to see others benefited by your actions. Goodness is not so much selective as much as it is somebody that you are. But we need to seek to do good. It does not always come naturally. "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." - Galatians 6:10 Our first obligation is to the family of God. But we need to be a people that seeks to do good to everybody. It is not just not doing bad, but seeking to do good. "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." - James 4:17. Many times, if someone comes to us for help, it is easy for us to respond and be helpful. But do we have to wait for someone to come to us? Let's be conscious of what we can do to help others before they come asking. Paul Faulkner calls this charity by stealth. There is no hidden agenda, but simply a desire to help someone out. "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." - Hebrews 13:16 HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!

Prayers Are Requested Orient Huseby is now living at the Life Care Center. Both she and Ken could use prayer and other encouragement for this major adjustment in their lives. Ken is really struggling at this time. Colton Fletcher, new grandson of Keith and Carole Fredikson, was hospitalized last Monday with a respratory infection. He is now at home, doing better, but prayers would be appreciated for his recovery. Pray for Margie Dupey and her family as they deal with the accidental death of her nephew. Humor For The Day? One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white. "The little girl thought about this revelation for a while, and then said, "So, Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

Ralph Crump will be teaching in the fall at the Nigerian Institute of Arts and Theological Studies in Nigeria, Africa to train preachers. Their old library was vandalized and burned down several years ago by a tribal border dispute. The school opened again just this year. The seven member board of directors have asked Ralph to procure thousands of books from individual Christians, retired preachers and other resources. PLEASE give your old commentaries, referencebooks, old Bibles etc. You may drop your books in the big box marked Nigeria in the foyer. The box will be there at least until the middle of March. Thank you!
Happy Anniversary!!! Happy Anniversary to Ron & Margie Dupey. Is it 52 or 13???
Mike's Memos From Iglesia de Christo, the Family of Christ in LaCieba, Honduras, I bring you greeting. I thank you for allowing me to share in the lives of those wonderful Christians once again. It was a joy to spend time with Oscar Nolasco, Carlos Martinez, Morecio Reyes and Augustine Velaquez and discuss the work of the church and her needs. I spent many hours with Oscar, who does most of their preaching, visiting different areas of the work in and around the city of LaCeiba. I visited in the homes of several members, and others with whom Oscar is currently studying and helping. These and other activities to evaluate the status of the Lord's work there, were the objectives of the two men, James Strother and Charles Davis, from Russellville, Arkansas, with whom I traveled. I had been to Honduras with them in previous years and it was a blessing to share in the work with them again. My objective for this trip was to begin making plans and working out details for a mission experience there for a group of our teens. It was a very fruitful trip. This July 7-17 we will be going to LaCeiba to teach a Vacation Bible School. It is projected to reach 150-200 children in the communities of Barrio Mejia and Las Delicias. We will also be involved in church and community work projects, and activities with the teens from the Barrio Mejia church. Our purpose will be to serve the Lord through his church in Honduras, yet there will be many benefits for us. Our lives will be enriched and our faith increased as we teach and serve and share. Selfishness and greed will be stripped away as we work and play with a people who have so little. As we attempt to share the life-changing message of Jesus, our lives will be challenged and changed while we live in a culture so different from our own. This experience will alter the attitudes of all who participate. We ask for your support and your prayers for God's blessing as we work toward Honduran Teen Mission 2000. MIQVAH 2000 March 17-19 Please pray for this youth event, and return your commitment forms to help provide housing for our guests. Yes, there are challenges, but God's blessings await those who give and serve. Congratulations! Congratulations goes to Jessica Bruner & Mallory Jaynes on being honored as recipients of the University of Idaho Top Scholar Award. This award is given to Juniors of local high schools who rank in the top 10% academically in their class. Congratulations Jessica & Mallory!!!
